Please join the ACS Family Advocacy Program and Community

Chapel Thursdays in October for "Safety and Self-Defense" classes!

In honor of Domestic Violence Awareness

Month, these classes will teach both bystander

intervention techniques and safety planning responses for loved ones of a victim of intimate part-

ner abuse. Classes begin on Thursday, 16 October at 17:30 at the Chapel's Fellowship Hall. Din-

ner and childcare are provided (with dinner served at 1830). For more information or to register,

please contact the Family Advocacy Program at DSN 440-3483.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and National Bullying Prevention

Preventing Abuse

Here are some ways that you can prevent domestic violence:

Promote domestic violence awareness by becoming aware of domestic-violence statistics and know the signs of abuse.

Speak out against domestic violence. Talking about the seriousness of domestic violence amongst friends, family and other community members also helps to attention and importance to the issue.

Call Military Police if you see or hear evidence of domestic violence, DSN 440-3801; CIV 08821-750-3801

Support a friend or family member who may be in an abusive relationship. Encourage him or her to report the abuse to a Victim Advocate (VA). You may also contact the VA for information. VAs are available 24 hours a day/7 days a week by calling 0162-265-2875 or contact the ACS Family Advocacy Program for more information.

Am I Being Abused? Does your partner:

Embarrass you with put-downs? Look at you or act in ways that scare you? Control what you do, who you see or talk to

or where you go? Stop you from seeing your friends or family

members? Take your money make you ask for money or refuse to give

you money? Make all of the decisions? Tell you that you’re a bad parent or threaten to take away

or hurt your children? Prevent you from working or attending school? Act like the abuse is no big deal, it’s your fault, or even

deny doing it? Destroy your property or threaten your pets? Intimidate you with weapons? Shove you, slap you, choke you, or hit you? Threaten to commit suicide? Threaten to hurt you?

If you answered ‘yes’ to even one of these questions, you may be in an abusive relationship. For support and more information please contact the Family Advocacy Program Manager at DSN

440-3777; CIV 08821-750-3777
