FUNDRAISING NEWS 1st December - Bunning’s Fundraiser, Reading Cinemas Rewards, Cook Book,

Dear Parents and Friends,

I’m sure that all of you who were able to attend our “Night With the Stars” will agree that it was an absolutely amazing night. I’ve even heard the comment “the best ever”. Our students excelled with their beautiful voices, amazing dances, funny verse speaking and talented playing of a wide range of instruments. I felt there was a great mix in the program bringing both tears to my eyes and laughter as well. Congratulations to each and every student as well as to all the teachers. Thank you to all those parents who emailed the school with their words of congratulations. They were much appreciated by the staff. We certainly have a talented group of children and teachers in our school.

Our student leader nominees were feeling somewhat anxious I’m sure, as they spoke to the school today. It is a very difficult job to stand up in front of the school explaining why you would be a great leader. I wish them all good luck as they wait, in anticipation I’m sure, to hear the results

We are very concerned that some parents are using the gates behind the hall and the staff carpark as pedestrian walkways. These areas are for vehicles only and we ask that you do not use them as shortcuts. These rules are for the safety of our children and we ask that they be respected. Also we ask that you use the paths provided rather than the grass if possible. With so many children and parents in the school it is always a battle for Eddie and Tony to keep the grounds looking beautiful for all of us. We appreciate all their efforts around the school.

There is a measles epidemic in the area. I believe a letter was sent to parents. Please be aware of this, particularly if your child is not immunized.

At the P&C meeting the other night I spoke about the 4 main areas we will be looking at as a school next year. The staff have analysed data, have held discussions and are planning for the areas we need to focus on. The 4 identified areas are:

Australian Curriculum – NSW English syllabus;

Reading K-6 with the possibility of being involved in the “Focus on Reading” Project;

Technology and 21st Century Learning;

Student Welfare – including Positive Behaviour for Learning; Student Leadership and Kids Matter.

We will be supporting these new projects with professional learning for staff including increased opportunities for mentoring and peer coaching amongst staff. We will also be purchasing resources to support these programs, already ordering $25 000 worth of reading materials and subscribing to “Bug Club” to support

reading K-6. We currently need some volunteers to cover these beautiful new books for us. These can be taken home to cover in front of the TV if you have time.

Invitations to our Volunteers’ Morning Tea, to be held on 4th December, will be coming out shortly. If you have helped out in class or around the school, or volunteered in any capacity, we would love you to come along to the morning tea allowing us to thank you for your support.

I have asked teachers to reinforce the wearing of hats and application of sunscreen to all students as they leave the classroom. We are a SunSafe school and are happy to support these initiatives.

We are coming up to the time of year where everyone is very busy both in their work and personal lives. There are a variety of events happening as the year comes to a close and we appreciate your support with all of them. Don’t forget it is our financial rollover at the end of the month so we would appreciate payment of any outstanding money for 2012 as soon as possible. I understand it is an expensive time of the year for all so please let us know if you are having difficulty with payment so we can work out a plan.

Just a reminder that we are trying to plan for classes for 2013. If you know that your child won’t be attending Ironbark Ridge next year we would appreciate you letting us know as soon as possible. Even one student can make a difference to the way our classes are structured.

Hope you have a wonderful fortnight,

Anne Forbes Principal

An Important Message from the Learning Support Team:

We are pleased to announce that starting this term, we are able to offer Occupational Therapy and Developmental Physiotherapy on school premises every Wednesday morning for a reasonable fee. Amanda Jones and Bronwyn Gelding from the Therapy and Learning Centre (TLC) at Kellyville, who come with a wealth of knowledge and experience, will be kindly providing these services. They are able to perform comprehensive diagnostic assessments, as well as ongoing therapy.

If you feel that your child could perhaps benefit from these services, please contact either Mrs Kerri Black or Mrs Kylie Robson from the school Learning Support Team on 88145687, or alternatively you can contact TLC directly on 94760766.

Please remember that we also have a Speech Pathologist available for therapy sessions on Tuesdays.

WELFARE MATTERS

Copying and plagiarism Copying other people’s work and presenting it as your own is plagiarism. It’s an increasingly common problem in the online world where material can easily be copied and pasted from websites. Students need to acknowledge the ideas of others when they use them in projects, assignments and assessments. Find out more: http://www.schoolatoz.nsw.edu.au/homework-and-study/homework-tips/copycats-beware Help your kids enjoy reading How do you make reading a joy and not a chore for your child? One way is to find information and interesting facts about things that intrigue or interest your child in books, magazines or on the internet. Read and talk about what you find out. Here are some other tips: http://www.schoolatoz.nsw.edu.au/homework-and-study/english/english-tips/ten-ideas-to-help-your-child-with-reading

KINDY CAPERS:

With the onset of silly season it’s easy to let well established routines and habits

fall by the wayside. Never underestimate the power of good conversation. With so

many wonderful digital technologies available to our families, it’s easy to forget

the age old benefits of spending some time each day having a good chat to our

children. As well as imparting pearls of wisdom to our little ones, good

conversation and scaffolded language provides the foundations for all future

learning. Conversations around books and stories are even more empowering.

Reading and good quality chats each day make really good sense. Reminders about hygiene and hand washing also support well established routines that serve our children

well. The end of the school year and the arrival of summer bring a plethora of illnesses that can easily be

avoided by some strategically used soap and water. During the year in Kindergarten we’ve tried to reinforce

the importance of washing hands after going to the toilet and before eating. At home students need to

continue doing this and when playing with pets and cleaning their cages hands need to be washed and dried

and cloth towels used for drying regularly changed and washed. Disposable paper towels provide the best

defence against germ transference. Hat sharing and playing with other children’s hair should also be strongly

discouraged.

Also please keep sending water bottles to school with all students so that they continue to drink water when

the days are hot. Many thanks to all the Mums and Dads who every day provide healthy lunches and snacks.

If you have not already done so please send in Fun Day notes with all appropriate sections signed. Any library

books or readers should be returned as soon as possible so that we can pass them on to Mrs Paton.

Have a happy and safe weekend!

The Kindergarten team.

Book Coverers URGENTLY required! We have hundreds of great new books that need to be covered so we can use them next year. If you can help, please drop by

the office to pick some up.

Many thanks in advance! Mr Brent

ADMINISTRATION

CONTINUING ENROLMENT IN 2013

If any family is intending to leave the school at the end of 2012, please advise the office in writing. This will help us significantly with planning for classes in 2013.

KINDY ENROLMENTS FOR 2013

We are now taking local enrolments for 2013. Enrolment forms are available from the office or on-line. If you currently have children at the school and your address is non-local and you are enrolling your child for Kindy 2013 you will need to put in an out of area application a.s.a.p.

SCHOOL BANKING DAY REMINDER:

Don’t forget that Friday is School Banking day and students should bring in their weekly deposit. For every deposit made at school, no matter how big or small, students will receive a cool Dollarmites token. The first token will be received upon the first deposit at school. Once students have individually collected 10 tokens they can then be redeemed for a range of great, exclusive reward items in recognition of their continued savings behaviour.

Thank you for supporting the School Banking program.

School Bus Timetables:

Hillsbus has amended the school bus timetable which will commence on Monday 12th November 2012.

The amended timetable shows Route 2025 now departing the Cnr of Windsor Rd & Samantha Riley @ 745am, Routes 610 now departing @ 8.11am ex Castle Towers, 8.34am ex Rouse Hill Town Centre & 3.25pm ex school.

P&C NEWS

President’s Report

As you will already know the President of the P&C has resigned and until the March AGM, I will be stepping into her position. I would like to say a HUGE thank you to Nicola for her contributions to the school. She has done a terrific job as President and has also spent many hours working in the Canteen and with the Fundraising team this year. We will miss you and we wish you and your family all the best in the future.

It has been such a busy time at school lately. It was my pleasure to meet so many new mums and dads at the Kindy Orientation mornings over the past few weeks. Can you remember what an exciting time it was to see your first little one off to big school? Such a big step for all! It was an added bonus to see so many new faces wanting to come along to P&C meetings and volunteer to help out at school in a variety of ways. I would like to extend my thanks to Amanda Stewart for organising the morning teas which helped to make our new families feel so welcome.

The P&C held its last meeting of the year on Wednesday and the next one will be Wednesday 13th February, 2013, at 7pm in the Library. Please remember that if you wish to vote at the AGM in March (where all Executive positions will be declared vacant and then voted on) you will need to be a financial member ($2 payable to the Treasurer) by the end of the FEBRUARY meeting. Paying membership on the night of the AGM will NOT allow you the right to vote in the elections.

Oh… and don’t forget to sign up to help sell a sausage sandwich at the Bunnings BBQ on Saturday 1st December!

Sarah McBrien [email protected] Acting President
