This week Welcome back to the last half term of the academic year. I hope that you all enjoyed a lovely half term break and were able to make the most of the good weather before it leſt us again! On my visits to classrooms this week I have been focusing on Maths’ learning. Well done to pupils in Year 1 who were only too keen to show off their new found skills and ability to find different amounts of money (just in me for the Summer Fayre). Well done especially to Olivia who told me all of the different ways of making 10p using different coins. A focus for our development of Maths has been enabling children to use reasoning to demonstrate mastery of skills and knowledge, teachers ensure that they plan for these opportunies during lessons. On Thursday we held an assembly about the General Elecon and what it means. Several children were very knowledgeable about the process and what Parliament and the Government were. Thank you to the children who presented their manifestos to become Leader of the school. They had great ideas and we hope to be able to put some of these into our School Development Plan. Please talk to your children about Cizenship and Democracy and see if they are able to give you examples of some of the democrac pracces we have in school for example how our School Council represents their views and also how they were elected. There are some excellent online resources which you can access from home and use to support your children’s polical understanding. Some are available at hp://www.parliament.uk/ if you are interested in developing this further. This week

Welcome back to the last half term of the academic year. I hope that you all enjoyed a lovely half

term break and were able to make the most of the good weather before it left us again!

On my visits to classrooms this week I have been focusing on Maths’ learning. Well done to pupils in

Year 1 who were only too keen to show off their new found skills and ability to find different

amounts of money (just in time for the Summer Fayre). Well done especially to Olivia who told me

all of the different ways of making 10p using different coins. A focus for our development of Maths

has been enabling children to use reasoning to demonstrate mastery of skills and knowledge,

teachers ensure that they plan for these opportunities during lessons.

On Thursday we held an assembly about the General Election and what it means. Several children

were very knowledgeable about the process and what Parliament and the Government were. Thank

you to the children who presented their manifestos to

become Leader of the school. They had great ideas and

we hope to be able to put some of these into our School

Development Plan. Please talk to your children about

Citizenship and Democracy and see if they are able to

give you examples of some of the democratic practices

we have in school for example how our School Council

represents their views and also how they were elected.

There are some excellent online resources which you can access from home and use to support

your children’s political understanding. Some are available at http://www.parliament.uk/ if you are

interested in developing this further.

Pentecost message

Our focus for our liturgies this week has been to follow in Jesus’ footsteps and bring peace to those

around us. We have focused on Jesus’ words of comfort to his followers at Pentecost (John 20:19),

when he appeared to his followers: “Suddenly, Jesus was standing there among them. He said,

“Peace be with you!” Several children expressed their concerns over recent events in Manchester

and London and have asked that we pray for the families and victims of these terrible events in our

collective worship.

A Celebration of Musical Talent

On Wednesday, the whole school enjoyed a music concert

led by some of our talented pupils. They then performed

again to their parents and friends in the evening at our ‘A

Celebration of Music 2017’ concert. We were impressed by

their performance skills, confidence and musical ability. I

was lucky enough to listen to the concert twice. Thank you

to Maya, Cameron (who also performed) and Alfie who

compered the concerts. Thank you to Mrs Martin for

providing the refreshments on behalf of the Friends. A special thank you goes to Miss Longmire for

organising the concerts.

FRIENDS Our Summer Fair is taking place on Sunday 18th June, and it promis-

plenty of sunshine! To make it a success we need your help in selling

raffle tickets. This year each winning raffle ticket will win a Goodie

Bag, stuffed full of prizes like family passes to local days out, restau-

rant vouchers and fabulous pampering treats. This week your child

will be bringing home 2 booklets of raffle tickets to sell. We need you

to sell each ticket for £1 and return the completed stub and collect-

ed money to school.

Please return these to school by Friday 16th June. As an added in-

centive, the first 40 children to return their stubs and money will re-

ceive a 3-day pass to Cranleigh Golf and Country Club! Thank you for

all your ongoing support – it is very much appreciated, The income

received from the school raffles is vitally important and is spent in a

variety of ways – all of which benefit our children.

This year there is a focus on developing the playground to create an

exciting, dynamic and engaging environment to stimulate our chil-
