KURUNJANG PRIMARY SCHOOL ~ “Learning Together” NEWSLETTER 35 - 2017 Thursday 9 th November, 2017 PRINCIPAL’S REPORT Tonight is the night!!! We hope as many of you who are able will be able to join us at Kurunjang Secondary College for the year 3-6 concert - Pass the Remote. Thank you to parent Sharon Muratori - for a spectacular and very large prop of a remote device, which will be used throughout the performance. Thank you to all parents and teachers for the children’s costumes and performance preparation in each of the classes. Between each of the performances you will enjoy advertisements arranged by the students in 5/6 Price. As you are aware the school conducts 4 emergency drills throughout the year in the unwanted event that we may experience an emergency. Each drill is different to simulate the reality that emergencies are also different. Last Thursday we conducted a lock down for the real event that a kangaroo made its way from Kurunjang Secondary College to our site. You may remember that this last occurred back in October 2014. On both occasions, the kangaroos made their way to the front of the school into the Foundation area. The wild life service tranquilised the kangaroo from an office window and below is a photo that they have sent us to show that our unexpected visitor is recovering well before being released. You may have seen/heard on the news on Tuesday that an horrific emergency occurred for a public school in New South Wales in which a car slammed into a year 3 classroom killing 2 students and injuring 18. The possibility of such an horrific event occurring is what we should all be attempting to prevent by driving/parking responsibly around schools and adhering to the signs prohibiting public vehicle access to school property. It is incongruous that some individuals at our school believe that this legislation does not apply to them and even more incongruous that they behave in a belligerent and aggressive manner when reminded that the legislation does apply and for good reason as is highlighted by this tragic event. Once again, I thank the 99% of parents who behave responsibly and reasonably. PRINCIPAL’S REPORT Saturday marks the 99 th Anniversary of Remembrance Day and the signing of the armistice at the 11 th hour on the 11 th day of the 11 th month and the end of the First World War or Great War; the war intended to end all wars. Unfortunately this was not the case; a fact of which I was reminded when I stood on the deck of the Missouri in Pearl Harbour during my long service leave in September this year. It was the Missouri which was chosen for the armistice signing to mark the end of the Second World War. Although we will not be at school on this Remembrance Day we remember all who have fought or given their lives in war. ~ Learning Together FORWARD PLANNING Monday 13 th November Foundation 2018 Transition Day ~ Colour Day Foundation 2018 ~ Parent Information Session Wednesday 15 th November Foundation Animal Land Excursion Saturday 18 th November Djerriwarrh Festival Parade Tuesday 21 st November Year 1/2 Werribee Zoo Excursion Friday 24 th November School Mini Fete Monday 27 th November Foundation 2018 Transition Day ~ Very Hungry Day Tuesday 28 th November Foundation Year 2 ~ Athletics Sports Thursday 7 th December Foundation 2018 Transition Day ~ Specialist Sessions Tuesday 12 th December Foundation 2018 Transition Day ~ Classroom Orientation Year 6 7 Orientation Day Year 6 Graduation Dinner Wednesday 20 th December Step-Up-Day Friday 22 nd December LAST DAY TERM 4 ~ 12.30pm DISMISSAL CANTEEN 3 Party Pies Zooper Dooper Glee Can $5.00
