Evergreen Seniors Club—A
word from the President
Welcome to the President’s first letter of the
year. I hope you are all refreshed after the
break from your various activities with family
and friends and are looking forward to anoth-
er year at Evergreen.
The Club is in full swing with some great ac-
tivities coming up. We will be having an
Easter raffle and on the April 12th we will
have a special luncheon to raise money for
the club. Also we will have a trading table on
the second Wednesday of the month every
two months. Don’t forget to bring in any Bric
& Brac you have at home that you no longer
need.
Also we are always on the look out for books
that are in good condition.
We are about to distribute pamphlets to try
and encourage new members and asking
members to ask their GPs and other health
professionals to allow us to display them on
their premises.
We have been fortunate to be able to book
Dorothy Baker, of TV fame, and she will be
performing at the centre on the 10th of May.
Geoff Walker will be entertaining us on the
12th of April with his didgeridoo. Some of
our favourite entertainers will be returning
along with some new acts. If anyone knows
any artists who are willing to come along and
entertain us please let us know.
Ken, Lorraine and I were invited to have
lunch with the Chinese Senior Citizens Associ-
ation on the 20th of February at a restaurant
in Burwood to celebrate the year of the
“Golden Rooster”. We were made very wel-
come and enjoyed a scrumptious lunch with

Companion Animal Volunteer Support For many people pets are the most important companion in their lives however illness, disability or frailty can make caring for pets too difficult to manage alone. By putting a Volunteer with a Client the animal gets the care and exercise it needs and its owner continues to enjoy the love and companionship a pet can offer. Companion Animal Volunteer Support (CAVS) program was established in 1999 to help residents of Boroondara who may have disabilities, be frail and/or older people, to care for their companion animals at home. This program is funded by the Department of Health (DH) through their Home and Community Care (HACC) program and must meet their all their standards. It is a free service to those who are eligible for HACC services but you must be a current member of Balwyn Evergreen to apply for the service. The current membership is $35.00 per annum. Volunteers help people keep their animal with them and stay in their home for longer. They are a vital link to the success of the program. Contact 9836 9681 if you would like to apply for the program.
