Spring Break has arrived and coincides nearly with the half way point of the 4th quarter. We have all worked very hard to get to this point in the year and we also know that we have more work to do once we return. I hope you can all take time to spend with friends and family after a long winter season. Here at school, and in schools across the nation, this is the time of year where we are all ready for a break from the long hours and weeks put into education; kids included. Over this break, I encourage you to allow your kids time to rest, to sleep in, to get some exercise, to read a good book, to draw and to just be kids. This is also the time of year when we start to examine programming and plan for next year. As you all know, we adopted an aggressive strategic plan in the fall of 2016; we have worked very hard to implement a lot of the strategies and objectives outlined in that plan. The board has put together a survey to gather data to inform how the plan has been executed so far as well as how successful district leadership has been at operationalizing the plan for the school. If you have not had time to complete the survey, please click this link https:// www.surveymonkey.com/r/BSSDCommunity and provide feedback for us. Again, enjoy the time away from the hustle and bustle of school for a week and we look forward to seeing you all back here at school fresh and ready to go on April 25th! Camp Moonlight isn't only about kids having fun, experiencing new and exciting adventures, and discovering the outdoors - it is our opportunity to mentor a new generation of teachers, guides and counselors. The Junior Counselor Program offers the chance for kids age 14-17 to inspire and lead younger campers, under the careful guidance of our experienced adult Counselors. Junior Counselors will be responsible for helping lead groups of younger children during each day of camp, providing invaluable support to the Camp Team. This program offers an outstanding opportunity for older students to gain experience in life and vocational skills like teaching and outdoor education, and even receive school or community service credit! Junior Counselors will receive complimentary meals during camp, and will participate in a special overnight trip created exclusively for this group. A select number of students ages 14-17 will be selected for the Junior Counselor program. Find application here http://goo.gl/3lUDy6 or visitwww.campmoonlightmt.com

HARBOR KINGSTON DEWAARD CAMP MOONLIGHT COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD

Harbor deWaard was a shining light in Big Sky – a little boy who valued community service and helping others. An adventurous soul, Harbor loved exploring the bottom of rivers, the top of Lone Peak and every-

thing in between. He had a sweet, beautiful smile, a kind and caring heart, and was one of the brightest stars to shine at Camp Moonlight.

It is in that spirit that the Moonlight Community Foundation is honored to announce the Harbor Kingston deWaard Camp Moonlight Community Service Award! This will be gifted to one camper each session at Camp Moonlight. Full tuition will be awarded to the applicants who best demonstrates what community

service in Big Sky means to them. Applicants age 8-13 should submit an essay, and campers age 4-7 a hand drawn picture. Winners will have their name placed on a plaque, be acknowledged in print and online, and

will receive a Camp Moonlight cape to serve as a reminder of the little superhero in all of us. Submissions can be sent to [email protected], by May 10.
