AnnouncementsOperation Christmas ChildThank you so much for the generous shoe box filled donations for Operation Christmas Child. Over 30 beautifully wrapped boxes were brought to school with loads of lovely presents inside. Although it was a tight contest between some of the classes, the winners were Fitzgerald class. A prize will be coming their way over the next week.

Mrs Broadway and I have observed a lot of lessons this week and have been hugely impressed with how focused and independent the Reception children have become and the quality of reading, writing, handwriting and maths that the Year 1s are producing.

Message from Ms Chaggar and Ms RaynerIf your child is too unwell to come to school, can you please make sure that you call the office by 8.15am. We ask that you call every day thereafter to update us on your child’s health until your child returns to school. If your child has an appointment, firstly we ask that you try whenever possible to make these outside of school hours; if this is not possible we ask that you bring a copy of the appointment letter to the office.

Used Uniform Sale & Coffee Morning with the Head – Thursday 3rd DecemberAt the last coffee morning I was asked if there was any way of setting up a used uniform sale. Many children grow out of their uniform items very quickly which are often still in very good condition. If you have any items that are still in great condition and could be donated to the school, it would mean parents could snap up a bargain whilst the school could make some money that could go towards buying books and classroom equipment. Items will be sold during the coffee morning on Thursday 3rd December. The deadline for donated items is Friday 27th November.

Ms Chaggar is going to set up a working party to help sort out and sell the donated items, she is looking for a few volunteers. If you think that you may be able to help please let her know by Tuesday 24th November.

One of the other suggestions that came out of our last coffee morning meeting was to have the lunch time menus available on the website; these are now on there under the primary tab.

Composer of the FortnightWe are currently listening to and learning about Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart as our Composer of the Fortnight. As a suggested activity to support at home, you could gather some facts about Mozart in preparation for the coming weeks. T he weather has really turned this week, so I would like to remind you that the children will need their hats and coats

increasingly for outdoor play when it is dry but cold. Please make sure that your child

comes to school in a plain black coat that it is labelled. The uniform policy is on the website

under the primary tab.

One of the children in Reception lost their scooter last Friday. It is pink with some green design work on it. Could you all please check at home that you haven’t taken it by mistake. If we could find it, it would make one young

girl very happy!!

We need more Work Experience placements!

Do you work in a career that would interest our students? If so please contact us: info@

isaacnewtonacademy.orgYear 10 students will complete a work experience placement from Monday 20th June 2016 – Friday 24th June 2016 and we need your help! If you feel you can offer a placement please read the placement guide below and contact Mr Crowther-Green by email: info@isaacnewtonacademy.org with the title Work Experience. Please provide a work address, brief details of the type of work, potential duties and include a contact name, telephone number and email. Placement guide• Employers must have a Health and Safety policy and Public

Liability Insurance• Placements should be easily reachable from INA by public

transport• Students should not be working in a confined space with a single

employer (safeguarding reasons)• Employers offering placements will need to complete an

agreement and send details of dress, days, times, tasks and any specific information

• Students will complete a project which they will work through during their placement

We welcome friends and family of INA students to offer placements to INA students. We want students to broaden their horizons and we want students to be completing a work experience that they could not easily organise themselves. Diwali LunchAs a celebration of Diwali, the “festival of light”, I’d like to thank Semo Benning, our Catering Assistant, who put together a well decorated dining hall for our Diwali day lunch.

There were saris decorating the balcony, great artwork placed around for everyone to see, and the story behind Diwali displayed, while the students waited in the queue. As a theme day, it was a resounding success. I would also like to thank every student for their great behaviour on this day. We look forward to the next theme day.

Primary Winter ConcertThe Primary Winter Concert will take place on Friday 4th December AND Monday 7th December to allow parents of Reception students and of Year 1 students to attend.

Parents/carers of students in Reception classes will be able to watch the performance on Friday 4th December at 9am in the main hall.

Parents/carers of students in Year 1 classes will be able to watch the performance on Monday 7th December at 9am in the main hall.

All Primary students will be performing on both dates, supported by their teachers and Year 9 Music Mentors from INA Secondary.

Letters will be sent home next week with details of performances and student involvement with two tickets per child attached. Tickets are free. If you are unable to attend or do not need both tickets, please hand them back into the reception office so that they could be reallocated to a family that may want more.

The class with the highest attendance at the end of every week is awarded the attendance trophy during Friday’s Award & Recognition assembly.

"We build too many walls and not enough bridges.” Isaac Newton BRIDGES are habits of mind or learning characteristics that develop a pupil's character and learning power and enable him/her to grow into a well-rounded individual and resilient learner.

There are seven BRIDGES habits that we will be working on, which will rotate on a weekly cycle throughout the year. The BRIDGES habit of the week will always be introduced at the beginning of the week during the Monday assembly and reinforced throughout the week across the curriculum. Each class teacher will award a certificate to a pupil that they feel has demonstrated the BRIDGES focus for the week.

Each week we will update you on the BRIDGES habit that will be introduced in the coming week and offer some top tips on how to reinforce the habit at home too. Please also refer to the Primary BRIDGES wheel above

Week commencing 23rd November– Discovery

At School:

• Wemakeourlessonsasfunandinteractiveaswecaneverydaysothateverychildloveslearningandhasa sense of enthusiasm about everything they do. Our lessons are very hands on and we ask the children to share their learning with the ‘talk partners’.• Wetalktothechildrenaboutlookingoutforthedetailsofthingsaroundthem,tolookcloselyatthebugs and the leaves in the playground and what happens to everything as the seasons change. We encourage the children to check their work and try to spot any errors they may have made.• Throughourtopicapproach,weengenderasenseofcuriosityandwonderinthechildrensothattheyare keen to go home and find out more. We talk about human characteristics and traits and what makes us all the same but equally what makes us different and that it is good to have differences and to appreciate them with an open mind.• Everyareaofthecurriculumsupportsthechildrentobecomemorecreative–throughrole-play,stories, music and PE – helping the children to use their imaginations.

At Home:

Encourage your child to use their imagination by making up stories together, or suggesting ways in which they could change parts of a story they know well , swapping the gender of the characters, having them go on a different adventure etc. Pupils love to role play different characters and it is often even more fun when the adults join in too. Play along and have fun!

Play games with your child like ‘I spy’ where you can see how many things they can notice beginning with a certain sound or letter they may already know or ask your child to think about an object and describe it using powerful adjectives. Ask questions like ‘I wonder what would happen if…?’ or ‘What do you think might happen if?’ or ‘Why do you think…? These types of deeper questions will encourage the children to use their creativity and imagination more fully.

Either independently or with help, encourage your child to read or research more information around the topics they are studying in class. Year 1 could be finding out facts about the world, finding out information about different countries – their flag, the capital city etc.

• Schools starts at 8.45am, it is important that your child arrives on time every day so that the teachers can start the lesson promptly. The school gate will be open from 8.25am and will close at 8.45am.

Wisepay DetailsWisepay details have been given to everyone now, which will allow you to book a place for ‘Breakfast Club’ or ‘After School Club’. Payments must be made in advance. If you experience any problems, please contact Ms Rayner or Ms Chaggar who will be happy to help.

Breakfast is available each day from 7.45am and costs just £2 per day. The children enjoyarangeofcereals,toastanddifferenttopping,juiceormilkandfruit.Anychildattendingmustbebroughttothemainreceptionareaby8.20amatthelatest.

AfterSchoolClubrunsfrom3.45pm–6.00pm(3.00pm–6.00pmonTuesdays)andcosts just £5 per hour. The children enjoy a range of snacks each evening and a variety of games and activities.
