W e all tend to take the facility that we enter daily, weekly or periodically for granted. We expect the temperature to be not too hot, not to cool but just right. We expect that when we turn on the water it will be cold or hot and will be of high quality. When we turn on a light switch we expect the room to light up. We expect the building to be clean and restrooms totally stocked. None of this happens automatically. We have spent in excess of $60,000 during our summer slower time (we are never dark anymore) maintaining the building. The lobby was repainted and the red wall, restroom ceilings, etc… are all one color again. The six plus inches of rain in two hours recently produced new and old leaks which necessitated a major roof repair effort costing $10,000. Most have been stopped but a few pesky ones continue to be reworked. Our HVAC systems (19 in fact) have had continuing problems and I have not been pleased with our repair and maintenance service. One of the lobby compressors recently went out and we brought in a new firm and found a number of issues which are being repaired, in excess of $15,000. If you have not seen the new shelving in the third floor prop/costume area, go take a look. This was a safety and organizational issue. Thanks to David Corban for his leadership on this project and Dot Auchmoody, Claire Skinner, Becky Troop, Jessica Walck, Mary Wallace and their group of volunteers who worked so hard to clean out the area, organize and return the necessary items. Thanks for discarding items we really didn’t need as I know how hard it is to throw anything away. The cost of this project was approximately $35,000. A special thanks to Rob Soja for his daily cleaning effort of this 29,071 square foot building with its many rooms, restrooms, stairways, outside areas and public space. It is a never ending, out of sight effort but is essential for our quality service to patrons, volunteers and staff. All of this costs money and we greatly appreciate our donors as their extra gifts pay for these items. The next time you come into the building, look around and consider how fortunate we are to have this treasure to work, volunteer and be entertained in. November – December 2014Volunteering Thoughts

Each year the Membership Committee reviews nominations for The Naples Players’ two most prestigious awards, the Unsung Member and the Life Member. The nominations may be made by anyone in the organization. Simply write a couple, or few, paragraphs to support your nomination and submit it to any member of the Membership Committee or to Becky Troop on or before November 10, 2014.

The Unsung Member award goes to “an unpaid individual whose sustained effort over the years has given countless hours of talent and originality to many productions aside from acting; who inspires new members to work and copy his/her goodwill and camaraderie; and is a member worthy of being remembered for years.”

The Life Member award goes to “a working member who has served a minimum of 10 continuous years; has recorded 2000+ volunteer hours; has participated in a variety of volunteer activities; is an advocate of TNP productions and activities; is willing to ‘pitch-in’ whenever needed, even on short notice; and has significantly contributed to the overall mission of The Naples Players.”

You probably can think of someone deserving these awards. Thanks for taking the time to compose a recommendation and submit it.
