NEWSLETTER INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR THE STUDY OF PAIN JULY 1986 JULY 1986 GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE V- -v- ------ ----X.ZC- IASP Membership Application Simplified You will be pleased to hear that the International Association for the Study of Pain has a new, simplified membership application form and requirements. In the past, applicants have had to obtain sponsorship of their application from two members of IASP. Last November, Council recommended that this rule be changed to allow sponsorship by two members of IASP or by two persons in a supervisory capacity to the applicant (e.g., chairman of? department, chief of service, dean, medical director, etc.). In addition, applicants are now requested to submit a copy of their curriculum vitae (CV) in lieu of filling out detailed biographical information on the form itself. Newly printed application forms reflect these changes. The Council would like to increase our membership so that new information on pain research and therapy will go dut to a wider audience. There are many benefits to membership in IASP: the journal PAIN; a Newsletter (now published bimonthly in- stead of quarterly) on matters related to pain research and therapy, information on all pertinent new books, congresses and other meetings; access to valuable in- formation prepared by hardworking IASP committees aimed at furthering knowledge and education about pain. We would like to encourage members to acquaint their colleagues with the benefits of IASP membership. There are at present about 2700 IASP members from over 60 countries.
