In Week 1, the school final for the Penrith Valley Public Speaking Competition took place in the hall. The

speakers did a spectacular job, making it a very difficult job for the judges to decide who to send through

to the next level. On Monday 28th October, Lily and Emma - Year 6, Sebastian and Nicholas - Year 5,

Shae - Year 4 and Wendy - Year 3 travelled to Werrington County Public School for the cluster final. All

of our students performed well on the day, with Sebastian and Wendy being successful in advancing to

the Grand Final at Regentville Public School on Wednesday November 20th. Congratulations to all of our

speakers and good luck to Sebastian and Wendy!

Congratulations to the following students who have earned these awards this month.

Our teaching legend for the month of November is Mr Fox and Mrs Sheens.

‘Cooking with Rachael and Kathleen’ has been running since the last few weeks of Term 3 and has been

continuing this term. They have cooked up a storm with rice paper rolls, blueberry scones, shortbread

and mini quiches to name just a few of the delectable delights. There is no cost and it’s hands on, so you

can take home a tasty treat and maybe try a new recipe or two. It starts straight after the assembly on

Monday mornings in the library annexe (AV room). Please come and join us. You may even have a

recipe of your own that you’d like to share.

The 2nd snapshot of Tell Them From Me is now closed. Thank you to those families who responded. The

results from the parent, teacher and student surveys will be available soon, so that I can share them with

you before the end of the year.

Congratulations goes to Jonathan in Year 6, who has been selected to be part of the NSW Primary

School’s Sports Association (PSSA) softball team. After his initial selection in the Penrith squad, he has

gone from strength to strength in this area. We are very proud of his sporting

achievement and wish him and his team good luck in the School Sports Australia

Championship to be held at Blacktown International Sports Park on 10th – 15th

November. Well done Jonathan, this is a memory to treasure.

“Love is the most important thing in the world, but baseball is pretty

good, too.” – Yogi Berra

Stage 3 held their Mini Fete on Wednesday 30th October. Every year we try to make it better than the year before. There is lots of planning that goes into it so that everything runs smoothly on the day. We had a practice run on Monday to make sure everyone had what they needed for their stalls.

On Wednesday Stage 3 set up at 9:30 and then everyone came out at 11am for the fun to begin. The plant stall sold out almost straight away. The most popular stall was the sponge throw, because who doesn't want to throw sponges at teacher, right? Everyone looked like they had a great time and Stage 3 really enjoyed running everything. All the money raised will go towards the Year 6 farewell and graduation. Hopefully next year will be bigger and better again, so don't forget to put it on your calendar! Montana - Serengeti

Bondi Beach

Bondi Beach were so excited to receive Elliot for being the best class lining up in Week 1!! Every morning we do literacy activities which include reading, writing, learning words, technology and fine motor skills. When we are finished an activity we put a peg on our collar so Miss Crammond knows what we have done and what we still need to do. In art we have been learning about warm and cool colours. We created the artworks 'Castles' and 'Sunsets'.

Senior Dance

In Term 3, the Senior Dance group performed their amazing Survivor remix routine at the Cranebrook Festival and Blue Mountains Dance Festival. The girls worked hard all year to choreograph and practice during lunch. Lily, Talia and Emma did a fantastic job coming up with the dance and teaching it to the rest of the group, making adjustments so that every girl looked amazing. Mrs Carroll and Ms O'Connor made a great support team for the girls, taking care of costumes and music. We are so lucky to have such amazing talent and opportunity in our school!

LEARNING LINKS – LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT

Children come to school at different stages of

language development. Being able to effectively communicate is

vitally important for both children and adults alike. It is

important for us to help encourage children to develop their

communication and language skills from a young age. You might

wonder what may help your child develop their language skills.

Here are some things you can encourage to assist with language

development:

Reading to your child from a young age.

When your child is learning to read, encourage them to read

aloud to you every day.

Hold conversations as frequently as possible, modelling turn

taking and conversational etiquette.

Drawing – when younger children are drawing, you will notice

they often want to talk about their picture.

Limit screen time – while children may be listening to conversa-

tions, they are not being given the opportunity to apply it at

these times.

What do I do if I feel my child’s language skills are not developing

the way they should be?

Speak with your child’s teacher.

Consult with your general practitioner (there could be an

underlying reason for this).

Consult with a speech therapist who may be able to assess

and work with you on areas of need.

Gardening

Llandilo Garden Club has been very busy this term. Our Woolies seedlings are coming along nicely and we have been able to transplant some into our vegie garden.

In the next few weeks more of the seedlings will be strong enough to plant out and our vegie garden will be almost full!

We have been using our new watering cans to keep our plants well watered in this very hot weather. The garden along the path to the playground is looking awesome! The pigface succulents are starting to spread and we have gotten rid of almost all the weeds. Our next job is to top up the mulch, this will help save water and keep the plants cool.
