Dear School Community
Student Cognitive Engagement: Effective teaching
Next term is another exciting one at OGPS. We have two important curriculum days planned for further staff professional learning. The first one (on Monday, 6th May) is focussed on the 6 + 1 Traits of Writing. The second day (on Friday, 7th June) has been planned to build on and extend the work that we have been doing in the student social and emotional learning space. A reminder that both days are student free days.
Student Development: Confidence and resiliency skills
Last Wednesday Mr Horbury and Miss Charles conducted a leadership day at the Ocean Grove Pavilion for our 18 2019 student school leaders. They completed a range of activities to further develop their understanding of leadership actions and behaviours. I also spoke to the leaders about leaving a legacy behind from their leadership for the school and fellow students.
Student Cognitive Engagement: Effective Teaching
National Assessment Program — Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN)
This year NAPLAN will be conducted between the 14-24th May during term two. Our Year 3 and 5 students successfully completed the School Readiness Test (SRT) last Thursday to test the school’s online capabilities and systems. The test revealed some small adjustments that can be made to further streamline the online component of NAPLAN.
Student Development: Confidence and resiliency skills
Congratulations to all of our students who participated in the Years 3 to 6 annual cross country last Friday. It is great to have access to the beach for the run and see so many students doing their personal best. The effort of students was simply fantastic with competitors trying right until the finish line! Thank you to Mr Hughes for coordinating the event and the many parents / carers who came along to show their support on the day.

School Ethos and Environment: School improvement
The pre review self-evaluation documentation for the upcoming school review has been completed. Thank you to the families who have provided input through the school council, Parents and Friends’ Club and during assemblies. Your contributions have been an important part of our reflection for the last four years. The school review next term consists of a validation day, two field work days (involving classroom visits) and a panel day consisting of challenge partners, staff, community members and DET Regional representatives.
Parent Community Engagement: Parent participation and involvement
Following our March school council meeting, I would like to congratulate and confirm Chris Hicks as our new school council president (and treasurer) for 2019. We are looking forward to Chris making a very positive contribution to our school and are excited about the skills and knowledge that he brings to the position. Also a big thank you and congratulations to Simone Shanahan who will be our vice president again. A full list of our school councillors and meeting dates can be found on the school website and in the school newsletter each week.
Student Development: Student agency and voice
We value student agency and voice as a means to improving student engagement, wellbeing and quality instruction. The 2019 Attitudes to School Survey is an annual student survey offered by DET to assist schools in gaining an understanding of students' perceptions and experience of school. Our school will use the survey results to plan programs and activities to improve your child's schooling experience. Students from Years 4 to 6 will participate in the survey. This year the Attitudes to School survey will begin on Monday, 29th April. The survey only takes 20 minutes to complete and occurs during class time. The survey results will be reported back to the school before the end of term 2 and communicated to parents through annual reporting and in the Grove Gazette
Parent Community Engagement: Teacher communication
On behalf of the staff I would like to wish everyone a fantastic term one holiday break and wonderful Easter (even though it seems a long way off still). This Friday assembly will begin at 2.00 pm with an end of term 2.30 pm finish.
Thank you for your continued support of OGPS,
