seen as a time when the faithful would return to
their “mother church”—the main church in the
vicinity of their home—for a special service. Over
time the Mothering Sunday tradition shifted into a

Quebec Open (April 7,8,9,1 0)
I ’m so happy to announce that this year’s
Quebec Open wil l be our biggest ever. With
over 1 30 participants it wil l sure to be an action
packed weekend of great squash. Come and
cheer on your fel low squashers!
Crusade Against Cancer (April 23rd)
On Saturday, Apri l 23, 201 6, Club Atwater wil l

Believe it or not, breakfast is not the most
important meal of the day. This nutritional advice
has been supported by research that found an
association between eating breakfast and
increased physical activity. That is, the more
active you are, the more likely you eat breakfast,
But more recent research has found no link
between breakfast eating and weight loss or
cardiovascular health. In one study, those who
skipped breakfast reported feeling hungrier at
lunch, but they didn’t actual ly consume more
calories in total throughout the day than breakfast
eaters. And eating breakfast didn’t seem to help
bust cravings for the rest of the day either. I ’m a
huge proponent of breakfast and do consider it
MY most important meal of the day. I f fighting
traffic is your first activity of the day and you’re not
necessari ly hungry upon waking, then don’t feel
forced to have breakfast. In fact, the first meal of
the day should be considered the same thing as
breakfast since you are, l iteral ly, 'breaking a fast'.
What's more important is what you eat rather then
when. Five eggs has the same amount of calories
as a donut, but we know that one wil l lead to fat
gain, and the other to fat loss because of their
effects on some of our hormones. Research
shows that increasing the amount of protein in
your diet can help increase the amount of Peptide
YY, a hunger-fighting hormone, in your body. So
starting the day off with protein wil l help reduce
hunger for the rest of the day rather than
breakfast alone. Forget breakfast cereals, bagels,
toast, and granola bars and start eating eggs,
cottage cheese or a handful of nuts. I f you don’t
have time to prepare eggs in the morning, try my
egg muffin recipe and prepare them ahead of
time. They’re delicious and easy to carry! Check

2 Salmon filets
3tbsp Sesame seeds
3tbsp Maple syrup
1 tsp Soy sauce
1 tsp Dijon mustard
½ tsp Chopped ginger
½ tsp Chopped garlic
Method : Cover the salmon filets with sesame
seeds. Cook in a 400 degree oven for 9 minutes.
In a bowl, mix the maple syrup with other
ingredients. Once the salmon is cooked, glaze
with the maple syrup mixture and serve.
Last month, Club Atwater hosted a very
successful Masters tournament. The quality of
play was outstanding. I 'd l ike to thank our
volunteers - Ngaire Metcalf, El izabeth Anglin,

Now that spring has arrived and we have
cleaned off our balconies, thoughts wil l
turn to the great outdoors and the
approaching summer. The Fresh Fruit
Sangria wil l provide a lively restart to the
season. Mind you it's origins are far more
uti l i tarian. Sangria has existed in various forms
for over 2,000 years. I t is bel ieved the Romans
began a practise of mixing wine with water in
order to sanitise the drinking water of their
expanding empire as it reached the Iberian
Peninsula, where Spain and Portugal now are.
3/4 cup Triple Sec
1 cup fresh raspberries
1 cup quartered fresh strawberries
1 750-ml bottle semi dry red wine
1 medium orange, thinly sliced
Method: Combine all ingredients into a large
serving pitcher and allow to infuse and chill for at
least two hours. Add grenadine or Sugar to
sweeten the mixture if so desired. Serve with ice
and a fruit garnish.

Spring has sprung on the Badminton Courts. I
hope everyone is getting ready for the Club
Championships this month. Play wil l take place
in Mens and Ladies Singles, Mens and Ladies
Doubles and Mixed Doubles. We wil l use an A-B-
C (maybe D) format to ensure that everyone gets
a maximum number of matches. The finals wil l
be held at the end of Apri l and wil l coincide with
the Dinner night. Dates are - Singles - Monday
Apri l 1 8th, Mixed Doubles - Thursday Apri l 21 st,
Mens and Ladies Doubles - Tuesday Apri l 26th,
and Finals and Dinner night Thursday Apri l 28th.
Cost is $8 per event and dinner night is $25. All
events wil l start at 6:30. Sign up via email with
me or on the Badminton Board starting this week.
