Swimming Carnival: The date has been set now to Wednesday 25 November to be held at the Babinda Public Pool. BFSS will defending their crown after triumphing in 2019! Newcomers St Rita wont now what hit them! Sadly, due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, the cluster has decided that no parents shall be invited to attend the swim- ming carnival mainly due to the mixing of the five different communities attached to the competing schools: BFSS, BKSS, MCSS, MSS and St Ritas and the inability to provide a clear opportunity to be socially dis- tanced from each other. We understand that this is not an ideal situa- tion but it is the context we find ourselves in at this stage. Thank you for your understanding. There will be no cost to students for this program. It is proudly sponsored by Sporting Schools. Carnival Transport : Babin- da SS Bus will be driven by Mr Lees to and from the venue leaving BFSS at 9:30am and returning at approximately 2:00pm. Normal drop off and pick up times from the school will apply. There will be no tuck- shop so please pack lunches accordingly. Eskies and ice will be provid- ed to ensure food is kept fresh and drinks are cold. Assessment and Reporting: Assessment Tasks are being rolled out in the coming weeks so students will no doubt be trying their very hard- est to provide the evidence to show what they have achieved this Se- mester. Report Cards will be due home on Friday December 4 which will allow the following week (half week really with school finishing on the Wednesday) for any parent-teacher interviews required. Performing Arts and Presentation Night: As you would expect, the BFSS Awards and Presentation Night will need to look a little different this year. With everyone in Queensland doing such a great job keeping this pandemic at bay, its only fair we do our part too. Therefore, this year: No shared plate dishes of food allowed. We will begin the evening at 7pm and endeavour to keep the formalities short so dinner can be taken at home either before or after the night as suits your family. A maximum of 4 guests per family will be permitted entry to com- ply with the regulations of 1 person per 2 square metres in our indoor event. Grouped seating will be arranged in the classroom. Please dont move the chairs. Dances and drama presentations will be limited to curriculum aligned Assessable Tasks only. There will be no performed songs. There will still be a Graduation Cake to celebrate our Year 6s moving onto secondary school however, only one person may cut or deliver pieces of cake to guests. Letters are coming home today that will ask for an RSVP and contact tracing information. They are due back at the school by Nov 19. Family Playgroup Suspended :-( Due to COVID, Play- group will be sus- pended until further notice. Mrs DiMaggios Library News!! Emma McKenzie is doing a wonderful job helping Mrs Di Maggio keep the library running smoothly. Dont forget to bring your library books on Wednes- days to swap them over! • PBL and Students of the Week Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) provides the framework for a whole school evidence-based approach to behaviour support. PBL recognises that schools need to teach the behaviours needed for success at school and beyond. School-wide PBL can be described as the consistent implementation of proactive, research-informed practices for classroom management. The focus for this fortnight has been “Use equipment respectfully and safely”. You may see the following posters around our class-room to remind students of how we do that! Term 4 Week 6: Safe Student of the Week: Jarrah Respectful Student of the Week: Xavier Learner of the Week: Emma Our Gotcha Rewards Party will be on again in no time! It has been scheduled for Tuesday Dec 8. Once again, students will need to earn their 10 Gotcha tickets for each category of our school rules : Be SAFE, Be RESPECTFUL and Be a LEARNER. If they can achieve this, they will get a fantastic reward that has been voted on by the students—Laser Tag and a Subway lunch! Can’t wait! National Tuckshop Day: The day went off so well, Miss Diane has volunteered to have another one! Order forms should go out today for our next tuckshop day on Friday November 20. Thanks again to the P&C and Miss Diane for making tuckshop possible this term! Shade Sail Grant Application: Cancer Council Queensland and the Queensland Department of Health are supporting the SunSmart Shade Creation Initiative to which BFSS have applied for funding to erect a permanent shade structure over the sand pit and climbing net. The area is in full sun during play times and as a Sun Smart school, we are always looking to improve the amount of shaded play areas at the school. Fingers crossed we’re successful and we can move forward in the new year! Containers for Collection: If your 10 cent containers are just going in the recycling bin, why not give them to us? We have collection bins in the sheds that are just waiting for your cans and bottles! Just bring them in and we’ll take care of the rest! Alternatively, you can use the code below when you take them into the depot yourself. Either way, your donations will go to a great cause in helping our P&C improve outcomes for our students. Container Refund Scheme We continue to be busy collecting containers! Please bring your recy-clable plastic, aluminium and glass bottles and cans to school for col-lection OR drop your containers to your nearest container collection point and quote the BARTLE FRERE STATE SCHOOL refund code: C10006696. When you quote this code, the proceeds of your recy-cling will be donated to the Bartle Frere State School P&C. Stay safe everyone! Chris Lees Principal
