Year 2 trip to Gunnersbury Museum

We all went on the train to Gunnersbury Park to visit the museum. I was so excited because I love history. When we arrived there was a lady dressed up as Florence Nightingale and we did a workshop with her about her life. She told us that Florence Nightingale had always wanted to be a nurse and about all the work she did in the war to help the soldiers. At the end I got to dress up as a soldier in a French uniform. It was amazing to hear all about the life of Florence Nightingale. After the first workshop we had our packed lunch in the garden. I had a ham & cheese sandwich, a Frube tube, a banana and some crisps, and when I’d finished eating my lunch I was allowed to play with my friends. In the afternoon we had another workshop, this time about the Great Fire of London, one of my favourite subjects! We learnt all about the Plague and how the fire killed the rats that started the Plague. Also, we learnt that the Great Fire of London burnt down St Paul’s Cathedra l. There were so many interesting facts and I spent the whole weekend looking up more information about the fire. History is my favourite subject and I had a brilliant day! By Bobby Pais, Class 2B

Year 4 trip to the Natural History Museum

On Wednesday 21st June, Class 4B visited the Natural History Museum. Firstly, we went to the volcano and earthquake galleries where we

learnt about what causes an earthquake and a volcanic eruption. We even experienced what it’s like to be in an earthquake. Then we went

to an Investigate Workshop where we examined different specimens such as bugs and seeds using microscopes and magnifying glasses. We also

weighed them, took measurements and drew diagrams of them.

Nursery Visit Brook Green Nursery enjoyed a trip to Brook Green Park this half term to have a Teddy Bear's Picnic. We prepared sandwiches and baked cakes in school beforehand and explored the playground afterwards!

Whole School Anniversary Mass with Bishop John Wilson

On Tuesday 20th June we had an outdoor Mass to celebrate the 15th anniversary of

Larmenier & Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School; it has now been 15 years since

Larmenier Infant School amalgamated with Sacred Heart Junior School to create

our amazing school.

We were lucky enough to have Bishop John Wilson as the main celebrant of our

Mass which was so well attended by parents, siblings, past teachers, governors and

friends of our school.

Somehow (and as always), the weather was glorious and we all celebrated a beautiful

service, led in the homily by Bishop John Wilson, to reflect on our relationship with

Jesus.

It was our last Mass outdoors as Head Girl and Head Boy and we were extremely

proud to be a part of the celebrations.

Laudato Si Week 26th June - 30th June

The whole week was devoted to exploring the subjects raised in Laudato

Si; the second encyclical of Pope Francis. In his letter Pope Francis covers

many environmental issues and he implores us all to work together to

create a better world for future generations.

We started the week with a special assembly by Cafod and then each

year group had an opportunity to get involved with some fantastic

activities including making junk instruments, making recycled paper,

performing in the junk orchestra and Year 5 all visited the recycle

centre in Wandsworth.

The whole week was extremely well received by all of the children and it

was fantastic that they had the opportunity to get involved in such a

diverse range of activities whilst exploring environmental issues and

immersing themselves in the message of Laudato Si.

By Mr Defty

Year 1 Recycling Workshop A visitor from the local refuse centre came to talk to us about how we can reduce the amount of waste we produce. He taught us actions for 'Reduce, Reuse and Recycle’. It was really fun, especially when he read us 'Michael Recycle' who is a recycling superhero. We also got to make our own recycling superheroes and decorate them using recycled materials. By Miss Watson

Key Stage 2 Junk Orchestra

At the Junk Orchestra we got to choose different instruments made out of materials that would usually be thrown away. We each

had two instruments and we were conducted by the workshop leader. We started off really quietly and at different points the music

was played louder and louder. We created our own music and it was great fun. The funniest instrument was a flip-flop used to

hit different length pipes to create different notes.

Fun in Laudato Si Week

For Laudato Si week we went to Nazareth House

and we sung hymns to the residents, it was a

really great experience. In class we made collages

with newspapers.

The highlight of Laudato Si week for us was

making recycled paper with John from the

Wandsworth recycling centre. It was so interesting

and we found out really interesting information

about recycling. By Andrea Schisano & Sophie

Dean, Class 3B

Orchestra & Choir Performance

To celebrate the success of the orchestra and choir we performed to our

parents. The choir sang ‘The Spaceship Jam’ and ‘Speed Bonny Boat’. Our

parents thought it was really nice and my mum was so proud of how I

performed.

Class 5G Visit Wandsworth Recycling Centre

On Monday 3rd of July we went on a trip to the “Waste Authority” in Wandsworth. We learnt about the process of recycling and where

our rubbish goes after it is thrown in the bin. There are many things we have learnt including REDUCE, REUSE & RECYCLE.

In the education room, we were surprised to see that the tables, chairs and floors were made out of recycled plastic bottles. After that, we

watched a short video of how the waste is sorted and formed into new things. Later on, we had the amazing experience of making our

own unique recycled paper, all the paper turned out just how we wanted it.

Before the trip, we had a very small knowledge of recycling but now we know how it is sorted, where it goes and how they make it into

something new. We thought it was extremely interesting and we agree that we would love to go back there again.

The School Scarecrow

The children helped to make a scarecrow for our school garden using old clothes, paper bags, bottles tops and spare pieces of wool.

Our School Scarecrow in his new home.

Year 6 Trip to Assisi

Year 6 were fortunate to experience an amazing trip to Assisi, Italy to witness all the religious buildings and famous places as well as churches. Learning about St Francis and St Clare was very interesting. We visited the Basilica of St Francis, St Clare’s Church in Assisi as well as the largest church in the world, St Peter’s Basilica in Rome. The eye catching, mind-blowing sights will stay with us for a long time, if not forever. Every single one of us was amazed to visit places where the saints actually walked and lived their lives. During this wonderful trip, we went to an exciting waterpark where we went on fast waterslides and were having a great time going on the slides time and time again to see who would be the fastest. The weather reached 40 degrees, it was extremely hot and we were lucky to have a day of refreshing swimming at the pool. On the last day we were extremely excited for two reasons: going back home and visiting St Peter’s Bascilica. The huge church was filled with thousands of people. The atmosphere was amazing, the noises, the voices and most important of all the great sculptures that were filled with many meanings, symbols and colours. Overall, I believe that it was a great trip and couldn’t have gone better due to the fun, amazing nights and the flabbergasting experiences. Year 6 at Larmenier & Sacred Heart are very lucky to have such a privilege and I hope more children have the chance to experience this amazing trip in the future. By Nathnael Negri, Class 6B

Year 6 End of Year Show Oliver with a Twist

We all felt excited but nervous before the show...because we all wanted to do well! After the show we were all so proud and joyful as the show was such an enormous success. It was the best experience to perform in a musical with all of my friends from Year 6. Ending our year producing and performing this show was truly a fantastic opportunity and the memories will stay with me forever. By Galatee De Monclin, Class 6G

Tynker Club Tynker is a really exciting way to learn about Computing. There are lots of different games and activities. The Launchpad is where you find all your lessons. In each lesson there are levels to complete. Each level is a task with a quest to solve. You learn how to use different programming blocks as you go. If you want to you can continue quests at home! Like other sites, Tynker has points which you collect by completing the activities. You can also create your own project completely with your own characters, and make them do anything you want them to. You can make them move around and speak, and you can also animate them. Also, you can create your own Minecraft people and blocks! It’s really fun, so do have a try!

Making the Ski Team Without Ever Skiing on Snow! Last year I went to Skiplex for the first time. It is an indoor ski treadmill. I had never been skiing before, but the coaches said I was a natural. After that I started to love skiing and just really wanted to be on the team for Larmenier and Sacred Heart, so when the school offered dry-slope training for children who had already learned the basics on an indoor treadmill I was eager to go! Even though I started on the baby slope, the next week later I went to the big slope! At first it was quite scary, but later on I got used to it. Sitting on a button lift (a metal pole with a small seat that pulls you up to the top) was really fun, but the view made me shiver! Now I’m fine with going high, it gives you a breath of fresh air. I can now ski down the big slope and am learning how to turn so that I can do a slalom run. Mr Ross says I might be able to race next year! By Maya Amihyia-Dixon, Class 5G

The first time I skied was at Skiplex, which I did enjoy a lot. Then Mr. Ross invited more people to go to the dry slope to learn to race, which made it even more interesting! We went there by coach. I learned how to get on a ski lift, and how to get off! I went to the very top of the biggest dry slope, and learned how to ski down! I can now ski very fast! Next year, I would like to race for the ski team! By Henry Russell, Class 4G

Minecraft Club Minecraft club is a lot of fun! You can decide as a group what you would like to build. Fiamma helped me and some of the others in the group because she bought a book and taught us how to build a flaming arrow launcher! I helped some of the members of the club who were new to Minecraft. One of them was stuck in the Nether, so I built him a portal to get back. I also teleported children when they got lost. Our team built an island paradise together. There’s a disco hall, Llama, and skeleton horse enclosures and it all lights up at night. By Niki Touroni, Class 5B

I started a new club after Christmas which was Mine-craft club! It was possibly my favourite club ever! We split into teams and were allowed to construct whatever we wanted but together as a team. In our team there was Alfie, Gregoire and me. We constructed an Aeroplane with an airport terminal with stairs and a two storey glass front! It is the biggest

and best thing I have ever constructed on Minecraft. Working in a team makes building much faster than working by yourself. By Maks Dybus, Class 6B Minecraft club was really fun. We felt really excited when we finished our project! We are very proud of it. There was a slight problem though, someone left the terminal doors open overnight and the following week we found it full of Llamas! By Alfie Manners, Class 6B

Ski Team Success! B Team Win GOLD!, A Team 4thOut of 16! Early on in the year, some of the school skiers trained at Skiplex. Then on Tuesday evenings after school members of the ski squad took a trip on a coach to the Gosling Sports Centre where they trained us on their dry slope for the London Schools Ski Race (LSSR)! We all trained hard and eventually it all came down to one Sunday – the day of the race! It was a hot sunny day, and imagine having to wear ski boots and gloves and a helmet! We survived the heat, drinking lots of water and taking our ski equipment off whenever we could. After warming up on the slopes we started our races. It was very difficult to choose teams because everyone had worked so hard, and we have lots of great skiers on the squad. The races were really exciting, full of adrenaline! With each run, everyone had a better and better time. The A team managed to come fourth out of sixteen schools in the Special Slalom, and earned themselves a medal which was a fantastic achievement! Then came the Dual Slalom, where the B team battled their way through to be awarded the GOLD MEDAL! Overall it was a great day that everyone will remember, our school smashed it!

Grenfell Remembrance Candles The children in the nursery have been collecting jam jars over the past few weeks. Yesterday we painted them and gently talked about how we will light candles to put in the jars to remember the people who lived in Grenfell tower. Last night I placed them by the wall of

remembrance in Latimer Road. We continue to keep all the families affected by the Grenfell fire in our prayers. By Miss Heidi

Key Stage 2 Sports Day Congratulations to all of the children who took part. Both the races and the field events were a great success and enjoyed by everyone involved. Once all of the points were added together it was announced at assembly that this year’s winning house is WATER! Congratulations to all the children in Water.

Year 3 Football House Tournament

This half term all of the children in Year 3 took part in a football house tournament. We are all keen footballers so it was very exciting. We were organised into house teams and we played against each other and gained points for scoring goals and winning games. It was a close competition but the overall winners were Air. It was great fun and we all played well. By Paula Cibrario and Reuben Clarkson, Class 3G
