Rotary presentation to Club Generation
David Hewitt, one of the Trustees of the Centre presented Club Gen-
eration with an Xbox One Console on behalf of the Rotary Club of
Whitchurch.
Club Generation meets every Tuesday evening and is a social club for
adults with learning difficulties. They have the choice of various activi-
ties each evening and regularly put on special events for occasions
such as Halloween, Bonfire Night and, of course, Christmas. If you
would like to find out more, please visit their facebook page
What’s been happening around the Centre?
For some time there have been notices around the centre saying that our next project after completing various inter-
nal ones - kitchen and toilet refurbishments, more eco light fittings, carpeted entrance ways and corridors, and im-
proved heating system - was to improve the external appearance of the building. This was delayed by the need for a
lot of Health and Safety works such as new Fire Alarm and Emergency Lighting systems, additional outside lighting,
new or improved panic bars on all emergency fire doors, plus many other smaller improvements, all of which came
to a grand total of almost £12,000.
However, we have now completed the process of cleaning, repairing and painting the outside of all the windows with
the help of a £500 donation from Whitchurch Round Table: the final phase was the gable end nearest the Commu-
nity Hospital and the gym windows which look over the original boys ’ playground.
Little Bears Day-Care have been responsible for the front garden improvements which include the removal of a lot of
old shrubs, returfing of badly-worn grass areas, and the creation of play areas in recesses between the main en-
trance doors and centre section of the building which have involved putting down slabs and decking work on non-
grassed areas.
Over the winter, the main hall-end toilets will be decorated with the help of another £500 donation: this time from
Whitchurch Tangent Club. This financial support from local groups is much appreciated.
The new boards for the Centre will be positioned at each end of the building and will list all the regular users groups.
Many thanks to these groups for the donations which they have made to cover the cost of the boards.
Our new recycling policy
Just to remind everyone that we have now implemented a recycling policy in the Centre. This is very simple as all it
means is that plastic bottles, drink cans, cardboard and paper should go into the large commercial bin provided by Ve-
olia, while all the other rubbish goes into the general waste bin.
Any volunteers?
The Management Committee needs an Honorary Secretary and also an Honorary Treasurer, and we would be grateful
if there are a couple of people who would feel able to volunteer to take on these jobs. These are not particularly time-
consuming: the Honorary Secretary creates the monthly management meeting agenda and takes the minutes, and the
Honorary Treasurer ’ s main duty is to produce the annual accounts - so some accounting knowledge is useful. Jeff
Still, our part-time administrator, handles the day-to-day routine clerical work and bookkeeping records. Both of these
posts are for 12 months until the November 2016 AGM, although you are always welcome to stand for re-election
again. Since these were not filled at the last AGM, then volunteers would be co-opted onto the committee until the
2016 AGM. Anyone interested please contact [email protected]
