Since its inception a quarter century ago, NBCAM has been at the forefront of promoting awareness of breast cancer issues. Today, NBCAM recognizes that although many great strides have been made in breast cancer awareness and treatment, there remains much to be accomplished. Women are all reminded to take charge of their own breast health by practicing regular self-breast exams to identify any changes, scheduling regular visits and annual mammograms with their healthcare provider, adhering to prescribed treatment, and knowing the facts about recurrence. In honor of the very special month, we would like to share one of many stories our friends around the globe share with GEMSPOT GOLF. We are blessed to have many friends and fans share intimate stories of golf with us and this month we want to share a very special story about a breast cancer survivor and dear friend to the founder of GEMSPOT PUTTERS, Wendy Laub. I've always been a Positive, Glass Full, look for good in people kind of gal. Well I was wrong and with the silence, whispering and tiptoeing going on around me as I lie there is when I knew that it was BAD NEWS!! I had three operations to clear margins from June to August, plus another surgery to replace catheter which had popped out and then six chemo treatments and one month of radiation. After 2 chemo’s got permission to swing a club very gingerly-- yeah!!! The "D" word never ever entered my mind. As debilitating as it was--when it got really bad I would go and sit in the middle of my garden day or night and that was very therapeutic for me I

thank my family, including my Hula Sisters (I was dancing at the time) and All my friends for being there for me. It is very important to have a GREAT SUPPORT SYSTEM--and I am very blessed. MAHALO ALL!!! I kept very busy with singing and painting lessons (which has been on my bucket list). I EXERCISED and went to a personal trainer, did yoga; golfed, gardening and just kept busy. Eight years later all is well, struggling with my golf game, but as of this weekend I can truly say that I'm back-- (back to single digit is my goal) Life Is Good--THANK YOU GOD

SPOTLIGHT-continued It was during Team Play in June 2002. I've always been diligent with my mammograms and self examinations. One evening after team play I discovered a lump in my Left breast. What was I thinking? We had two more rounds of team play and I actually considered waiting until team play was over before consulting the doctor. My husband Jack was with me on my first visit to my regular Doctor who sent me for X-Rays on another day to find out if malignant or not at which time I told Jack that it would not be necessary for him to be there (big mistake). I really felt that there was nothing to worry about--WRONG!!!

GEMSPOT QUOTE

If you drink, don't drive. Don't even putt. ~ Dean Martin

Tourmalines are gems with an incomparable variety of colors. The reason, according to an old Egyptian legend, is that the tourmaline, on its long journey up from the centre of the Earth, passed over a rainbow. In doing so, it assumed all the colors of the rainbow. And that is why it is still referred to as the 'gemstone of the rainbow' today. Pink Tourmalines are considered the feminine rose of the tourmalines signifying love. The name tourmaline comes from the Singhalese words 'tura mali'. In translation, this means something like 'stone with mixed colors', referring to the color spectrum of this gemstone, which outdoes that of all other precious stones. In the fascinating world of gemstones, the tourmaline is very

special. Its high availability and its glorious, incomparable color spectrum make it one of our most popular gemstones - and apart from that, almost every tourmaline is unique.

Opals, are the dazzling stone that nevers looks the same each time you look at it. All of Nature’s splendor seems to be reflected in the manifold opulence of fine Opals: fire and lightning, all the colors of the rainbow and the soft shine of far seas. Australia is the classical country of origin. Almost ninety-five per cent of all fine opals come from the dry and remote

outback deserts. Numerous legends and tales surround this colorful gemstone, which can be traced back in its origins to a time long before our memory, to the ancient dream time of the Australian aborigines. It is reported in their legends that the creator came down to Earth on a rainbow, in order to bring the message of peace to all the humans. And at the very spot, where his foot touched the ground, the stones became alive and started sparkling in all the colors of the rainbow. That was the birth of the Opals.
