Eggs for Sale Our chooks have slowed down laying over the last few months, however Barb Ison had an abundance of eggs and has given them to the school to sell. If anyone would like some eggs please let the school know and we can supply them. They are still $3.00 a dozen. Education/Book Week Restaurant and Book Fair The date set down for our Book Week Restaurant and Book Fair is Thursday, 23rd August. The Book Week theme this year is “Champions Read”, so our restaurant will have an Olympic theme. The Book Fair will commence in the new Library at 11.00 am and the res-taurant will open at 12.00 noon. Invitations/Menus and more information will be sent home as the date gets closer. Maree Scharffetter’s Funeral The school was very saddened to hear about the untimely death of Maree Scharffetter last Tuesday. The Scharffetters have had a long association with Duri School with all three girls, Kayla, Alisha and Deanna attending our school. Most of the staff are attending the funeral today at 2.00 pm. Mrs Burley and Mrs Smith are taking the students in our absence. Our thoughts are with Peter and the girls, especially today.

School Photo Date Our new date for school photos is Thursday, 11th October. Jump Rope for Heart The students have raised $449.00 which will go to the Heart Foundation. This is a great effort. Prizes should be here in a few weeks. Book Club Book Club order forms went out last week and all orders and money should be returned to school by Wednesday, 1st August, 2012. Zone Athletics Carnival The Zone Athletics Carnival is on Thursday, 9th August. The team competing will be announced shortly. Music Last week Mr Stephen Laylor (Retired Principal of Dungowan Public School) had his first lesson as our new Music Teacher. Mr Laylor will be teaching music for an hour each Thursday. Mr McDonald is still trying to organise someone to come out to school to continue lessons with our piano students. Application for an Exemption for Attendance at School The following information was made available in newsletters last year, however it is worth reminding parents again of this exemption. Up until a few years ago, when students were away from school because of holidays or exceptional domestic circumstances, they were considered absent and those days not in attendance at school were recorded as such. To be granted an exemption you must fill in an “Application for Exemption from Attendance at School” form BEFORE you child is going to be away. Applications after you return from your family holiday (for example) cannot be granted. If you are going to be away, please contact the school and Wendy will send an application home to be filled in and re-turned to the school. It is certainly worth applying for an exemption because your child’s school attendance rec-ord has to be included on each Semester’s School Report. Many of our absences at Duri are due to family holidays or the child participating in sporting events not related to school. Woolworths Earn & Learn 2012 Extension The program finishes on 1st August, 2012. All sticker sheets will need to be returned to school by Wednesday, 1st August. Keep saving your stickers, the school will be able to purchase classroom resources. This program is going well and we have a lot of sheets of stickers. Keep collecting, we have until the end of this month. Coles Sports for Schools Program 2012 We are also participating in the Coles Sports for Schools Program which concludes on Saturday, 14th August.
