PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

It has been a busy week at Emerson with several important celebrations unfolding. Last Sunday, four students and six staff members participated in the 100 km section of the annual Round the Bay bike riding classic event. Our student riders were: Kyle E, Shaun F, Ethan N and Matt A. Our staff team members were Chris Murray, Tom Howard, Glenn Stephenson, Liz Jeans, Rebecca Van Den Hoek and Vic Marczenko (team bus driver). Our team was joined by Nathan Broeren, one of our former graduates, who continues to be involved in the sport of cycling. Along with Pollock Sok, Nathan was one of the first students to complete the 210 km section around the entire Port Phillip Bay. I would like to congratulate our team on their wonderful riding performance and thank our staff members for their generosity in making this happen.

Our Hoop School Musical was been performed last night, and will be performed tonight also. It has proved to be an outstanding success. We have been adding many new pieces of equipment to our gymnasium to enable us to conduct large performances. While the fitting of all equipment is not yet complete, this is the first time that we have had the opportunity of performing in a larger space. Congratulations to Yolette Stewart, Lincoln Bowen, Lance Wright, Elizabeth Ralph and Norliah Donnell and many others who have worked tirelessly on the performance and improvement to our facilities. Congratulations to our wonderful students who showcased their performing talents in such a brilliant way!

PEACEFULNUSS

We will be studying PEACEFULNESS during the next fortnight.

Peacefulness is about remaining calm especially when things are hectic or scary. People who are peaceful create positive relationships with those around them. They are a source of wisdom in times of worry.

Ahmed from MSA has won our Most Determined Person Poster Competition. Ahmed has drawn a lovely picture of his mum. He thinks she is a determined person because she works very hard and never gives up, even when she is tired.

Ahmed tells us that his mum spends fun time with him which he enjoys immensely. You are a very lucky boy, Ahmed, to have such a wonderful mother who is so determined in making sure you have the best opportunities to maximise your potential.

Congratulations and I hope you enjoy your free subway lunch next Wednesday!

EMERSON SPORT

SENIOR SPORT

Senior interschool sport began last week, with Emerson School entering 2 softball teams and 2 cricket teams. We had mixed results on the indoor cricket pitches, with our teams registering one win and one loss. Indoor cricket is a surprisingly different format to the outdoor game and we will all need a few weeks to get the hang of the new strategies and techniques!

Our softball teams ended up combining into one super team due to a lack of player numbers from the other school. Although no scores were recorded all of the staff were pleasantly surprised with the high standard of play shown by our students. Great start Softballers!

JUNIOR RUNNERS CLUB Runners club has exploded into term four, with the track full of runners on most mornings. Congratulations

to the following students on their milestones! Let’s keep going!

50 Laps Joseph JSC, Ngarey JSI and Monash JSI

250 Laps Justin JSF, Shannon JSJ and Zakaria JSJ

400 Laps Harley JSE

AROUND THE BAY CYCLING The Emerson cycling team took to the streets of Melbourne for the annual ‘Around the Bay’ bike ride last weekend. Students Kyle E, Shawn F, Matthew A and Ethan N completed the 100km course in relative comfort, despite having to ride into a ‘gale force’ headwind for the 2nd half of the journey. The students were ably supported by a staff team which included Chris Murray, Liz Jeans, Tom Howard, Glenn Stephenson and Rebecca Van Den Hoek on bikes and the ever reliable Vic Marczenko in the following bus. Well done to all of the members of the cycling team! Completing an event like this one takes a great deal of determination, motivation, dedication and self-sacrifice. The Emerson community is proud of your efforts!
