DIARY DATES
END OF TERM 2 SCHOOL FINISHES
1 HOUR EARLY Friday 26th June
—————
START OF TERM 3 Monday 13th July
PRINCIPAL’S REPORT Sustainable Cities Award Last Friday evening two Senior students, accompanied by Ms Fiona Bateman, our Horticulture Co-ordinator and Mr David Stansfield, our Senior School Co-ordinator, were guests at the annual Sustainable Cities Awards, a program that is promoted by Keep Australia Beautiful Victoria. We were very proud to be one of the six state finalists in the Active Schools Award. This award covers all government and private schools at primary and secondary level. I would like to congratulate all staff and students who worked so hard in the areas of horticulture and sustainability. Our nomination was put forward by the City of Greater Dandenong. The winner of this award was St Louis de Montfort’s Primary School in Aspendale. Ho Chi Minh City Visitors to Emerson A delegation from a number of education authorities in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
visited Emerson School on Monday, 15th June. This was a most successful interaction between visitors and members of our community. This delegation was on an extensive two week tour of educational programs in Victoria at primary, secondary and tertiary levels. Emerson was chosen to be part of the itinerary by the International Relationships Section of our State
Department. I would like to thank Howard Smith for his management of this most successful event. Parent Day 2015 Concert – Junior School Our Junior School Parent Day was held on Thursday, 18th June. The afternoon started with an extraordinary film that was compiled by Mrs Pam Mohan, Junior School Classroom Teacher. The film showed the multicultural celebration that takes place in our school everyday. Each of our ten Junior School classes then performed a series of dances from countries around the world. The event finished with a wonderful ‘Bollywood’ dancing performance from our Junior School staff. Mrs Jenny Mackay, Assistant Principal from Dandenong North Primary School congratulated students and staff on their high quality dancing performances on behalf of the Dandenong education network. Congratulations to all Junior School students and staff for your amazing organisation of this wonderful event.
End of Term 2 Our Term 2 will finish next Friday, 26th June at 2.00 pm. Please expect school buses to arrive one hour earlier on that day. JOHN MOONEY

I hope everyone is compiling their lists of things that make them feel happy. The competition closes next Wednesday 24 June at 3.00pm. The winner will receive a free Subway lunch.
One of the many things that make me happy is reading funny jokes and riddles. Laughter is very good for healthy immune systems!
Here are a few of my favourite jokes and riddles. I hope they make you feel happy too.
What was the Energiser Bunny arrested for? He was charged with battery!
What do you call a dinosaur with an extensive vocabulary? A thesaurus. What does a clock do when it’s hungry? It goes back 4 seconds! I wondered why the baseball was getting bigger. Then it hit me! I’m reading a book on anti-gravity. I can’t put it down. I tried to catch some Fog. I mist. Broken pencils are pointless.

ICE BUCKET CHALLENGE
Mr Hodson will get a well-deserved drenching after Whole School Assembly on June 26.
Recently Richmond beat Collingwood and as a result of a bet Mr H must do an ice-bucket challenge.
Mr Kemp will coordinate the drenching. Any staff or students who would like to donate a gold coin will have
the opportunity to tip a beach bucket, full of very cold ice water, over Mr Hodson.
All monies raised will go to the MND Foundation of which ex Essendon captain, Neale Daniher, is patron.
Neale was also assistant coach of both Essendon and Freemantle. In 2000 he coached the Melbourne
Demons into the grand-final. Neale was diagnosed with MND in 2014.
