Think it over • Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever. • Fear is not a disease of the body; fear kills the soul. • The difference between what we do and what we are capable of doing would suffice to

solve most of the world's problems. • An eye for eye only ends up making the whole world blind. • Strength does not come from physical capacity. It comes from an indomitable will • never you are confronted with an opponent, conquer him with love

UNICEF State of World’s Children Report, 2012 The State of Word’s Children Report, 2012 of UNICEF is devoted to the theme of Children in an Urban World. In this report, UNICEF highlights the problems and dangers for children in urban areas. While Cities offer many children the advantages of urban schools, clinics and playgrounds. Yet the same cities the world over are also the settings for some of the greatest disparities in children’s health, education and opportunities. Hundreds of millions of children today live in urban slums, many without access to basic services. Those children are vulnerable to dangers like violence, exploitation, illness or death. In a few years, the report says, the majority of children will grow up in towns or cities rather than in rural areas. In India, the number is 377 million according to Census 2011. The report talks about the main challenges the children face around the world growing up in cities, including the unequal access to basic services, high rates of under-nutrition and under five mortality, low access to water and sanitation, and the impact of natural hazards and economic shocks. Visit UNICEF web site for further details, UNFPA, State of World’s Population, 2011 The State of World’s Population Report, 2011 of UNFPA is devoted to the theme Family Planning, Human Rights and Development. This report explains why family planning should be regarded as a right. Today some 222 million women in developing countries are unable to exercise that right because they lack access to contraceptives, information and quality services or because social and economic forces prevent them from taking advantage of services even where they are available. The report examines the challenges in ensuring that all women, men and young people are able to exercise that right and suggests actions that governments and international organizations can take to give everyone the power and the means to decide freely and responsibly how many children to have and when to have them. Visit UNFPA web site for details. Longitudinal Ageing Study in India (LASI) The International Institute for Population Sciences, Mumbai has released data from the 2010 pilot wave of the Longitudinal Aging Study in India (LASI). For the pilot study, a representative sample of 1,683 individuals was interviewed in four states (Karnataka, Kerala, Punjab, and Rajasthan) during October – December 2010. The multidisciplinary survey includes Demographics, Family structure, Social networks, Activities, and connectedness, Health and health behaviors, Health insurance and health care utilization.
