We are The Road User Safety Team (TRUST). We have been meeting with Sarah from Hamilton City Council. It is our job to help keep you safe outside the school gates.

On Monday 8 September we went outside the school gates to observe the issues after school. The top problems we had were bad parking - double parking, parking in disabled parking and parking on the grass. Another problem was that hardly any children had helmets on while they were biking or scootering.

Another problem was bad roadside behaviour - like shoving and pushing or not listening to road patrollers. The last problem was getting into cars unsafely, e.g. parents double parking and children crossing the road to get into cars.

We also saw some good behaviour but we were really worried about the bad behaviour especially when the parents know better.

Over the next few weeks we will be sharing ideas and suggestions on how to be safer.
