BOXCO LOGISTICS NEWSLETTER

Boxco Gives This ODC An Express Delivery

On 30 November 2015, it was odds-on that it would be just another day at the office for our heavy lift team when we

received the LoA for the delivery of a 350 MT HCGo reactor from Chennai port to the CpCL site. However, the historical heavy rain during the first week of December, various unknowns on site in the second week, and a multi-player scenario including the port traffic department’s categorical resistance emerging on the third week, made us look at it as a challenging task. Moreover, we planned exposing the bridges en-route to a never-seen-before payload of 320 MT in the fourth week of December.

This was easily one of the most densely populated multiplayer games, and for everything to be in order, Boxco was expected to be a comrade to all these parties

1. The shipper 2. The vessel’s owner and agent 3. The port 4. An EpC consultant5. The project owner6. The project owner’s CHA and last,

but not least 7. Boxco’s civil contractor on site

With such a convoluted communication channel for each activity, Boxco had its steps measured to ensure the well-timed delivery.

While Boxco had broken many barriers in the past, this time it had to break the compound wall of the project owner’s site, disconnect the emergency water pipeline and remove light poles before the turns were possible. It had to make a path inside a running refinery to reach

the foundation. With support from the parties concerned and the solidarity of our team, the package reached the foundation within 4 days.

We sure felt that coming together was a beginning, keeping together was progress and working together was success. The package was parked in front of the site gate less than 18 hours after receiving it at the port and it was resting on the stools of the foundation within 5 days.

Boxco Logistics India pvt. Ltd. has yet again broken its record for the longest cargo handled, by transporting a 118

m long fully assembled main boom of designed and manufactured by Sarens Ltd.

The package was shifted internally in the Cargo 3 at rIL, Jamnagar refinery. The entire logistics, including engineering and transporting the equipment was planned by technical team at Boxco Logistics.

BOXCO Gets Its Hands On 118m Package

The transportation of the main crane boom required feasibility studies and intensive planning. obstacles were identified, recorded and measured and then they were planned using a CAD system. A drawing of the actual package and the transportation planwere obtained from rIL.

Stability calculations were carried out. Swept paths were simulated in the CAD system and the most suitable transportation configuration was fixed for the execution. The package was loaded onto a SpMT configuration as per the finalised plan.

pHASE 1: Planning and EnginEEring

The movement was carried out after rigorous planning using remote-controlled Scheuerle SpMTs, which are the most advanced hydraulic equipment in use today. Boxco faced numerous challenges including turning restrictions, street lighting poles etc.

The package was accurately hauled with the help of a triangular electronic link created between the SpMTs. The configuration had one set of12+12 side-by-side axles at the front

and two sets of 6+6 side-by-side axles at the back.

The three sets of axles were carefully connected and the package was moved for a little more than 300m within the rIL site. The connection scheme is shown in Figure 2.

With the careful and skilful electronic control of the SpMTs, the package was safely transported inside the rIL Cargo 3 Site. With the successful completion of this project, Boxco has once again broken its record for handling the longest package

PROJECT Y

es, this is it! The first international project for Boxco Logistics. Being a part of Boxco has been a ride with lots

of experience but an international project is a whole new turn of events for the Boxco team.

Here is an overview of this massive project:

To achieve these requirements for our client, we have various logistical modes planned and executed as per the feasibility of:

Being a very new player in the Bangladesh logistics industry for project cargo, our first step was to set up a joint venture with the SHr Group, which is a well-established and leading player in Bangladesh logistics, to form Boxco Bangladesh for coordinating activities at ground level in Bangladesh.

The project requires cargoes to be supplied from all over the globe plus a large number from India. So, as a first step, we focused on establishing a good network of staff to streamline the coordination activities throughout the project.

The project comprises handling both exports and imports, involving a huge number of vendors and government and private agencies in addition to liaising with the client. Hence, the whole activity is coordinated and monitored by well-established Boxco teams in both Bangladesh and India at each and every point for catering to the requirements of the client.

We have achieved this since both Boxco India and Boxco Bangladesh have very experienced staff, who can be deployed at various locations as per the requirements.

At the ground level in Sikalbaha, the site is a totally new terrain for Boxco, hence planning and establishing a safe and feasible logistical route for the various modes of transportation

was the first and foremost activity.

our well-trained engineering team had visited the site at an earlier stage to survey the feasibility and to plan for the various logistical and operational activities for the mega project. The road route narrowed the options down to 20 MT with 3.3 m wide cargoes as the upper limit. This led us to explore further options to meet our client’s needs.

After a further survey and with the understanding from the site, we planned to construct a ro-ro jetty near to the riverside at the site. After further planning and a team discussion, we successfully constructed the jetty.

Halfway through the project, we have successfully delivered cargoes to the site by road, sea and air. But, yes, we have run into troubles with different shipments, but then where would the fun be without challenges. Being part of Boxco, we always overcome all the hurdles as a team.

soon, in addition to our other handling equipment, like the pay loader, hydra, hoppers etc., which will fortify our position as a strong player in handling fertiliser. BLIp is also handling large volumes of imported raw sugar. Fertiliser and raw sugar are sensitive cargoes and they require special handling, and BLIp has the expertise in dealing with these commodities.

Cost effectiveness has been

achieved by multitasking and vendor management. We are moving towards achieving a good market share and we are trying to open avenues for new business. Due to the safe practices followed, no accidents were recorded and we meet the HSE target of the organisation to prevent all accidents at any cost
