I attended the Razorback Swimming Carnival last Friday and witnessed 12 of our children swim for our school. Not only were they proud to be there, they never missed a single race where a fellow student was swimming. They cheered and encouraged their friends and made sure that everyone felt supported. We also held our prefect and captain morning tea for our 2018 leaders and their families. At this celebration the children signed their pledge to be great role models and strive for personal ex- cellence in all that they do. The children were proud of their ef- forts and listened carefully to the characteristics of great lead- ers. On Thursday of last week, Mrs Carbury and I attended a wellbe- ing conference at Bankstown. We were asked to present at the conference around the ways we Connect, Succeed and Thriveat Buxton PS. I was proud to be able to talk about our Little Li- brary, our chaplaincy program and the aspirational communities project that we are involved in with 5 other local schools. It is so nice to be able to put Buxton on the map! Staff have also been involved in a number of learning opportuni- ties over the past few weeks displaying the theory that learning never ends. Its a lifelong process to continue to grow and chal- lenge ourselves. Spirals of Inquiry, writing workshops, Targetted Early Numeracy and master classes in instructional leadership are just to name a few.

Thirlmere Steam Festival On Sunday 27 children paraded for Buxton PS at the Thirlmere Steam festival. It is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate with our local community and once again show what great pride we have in our school. Thank you to the staff who supported the event and came along to march with us. Your dedication does not go unrecognised. Thank you also to the families who came along and brought your children to represent our school. Collaboration in Learning I would like to acknowledge the fantastic work that your children are doing this year. Their dedication to their learning and contin-ued perseverance to achieve their personal best is seen in every classroom as I visit or talk to the children as they come to share some work with me. They may not be able to do everything ‘yet’, but they are making sure that they never give up and they have a go! Working together with their peers and teachers, they will achieve great things. Aspirational Communities This week we held our first meeting with our five local schools around our strategic direction ‘Aspirational Communities’. I men-tioned this direction at the ’Meet the Teacher’ evening and the opportunities for members of our school community to be active participants in where the project heads over the next three years. A number of parents have spoken to me about being in-volved in the focus group who will meet with Dan Haesler , our project leader, to discuss the ways we can best make this work for us all. If you would like to be a part of the team please see me ASAP and I will include you in the team. The first meeting will be held on Tuesday 3rd April from 5:30-6:30pm at Thirlmere PS. Free Carpet! I mentioned in a newsletter a few weeks ago that we had some free carpet pieces that were taken from the office areas last year. No one has taken up the offer, so we will be disposing of the car-pet over the next few weeks. Please come and see me if you would like to take up the offer! Car Parking Reminder A few weeks ago, we received a memorandum from the Dept of Education in regards to parking in the school grounds. In light of what occurred in one of the schools last year a new policy is be-ing written. Presently, parents are asked not to enter the school grounds to drop off or pick up their children at any time, but rather park on the outside of the school grounds and walk in through the gates. I am aware of two families who have disabled passes visible on their cars and are therefore allowed to enter the school and park. Any cars that do park in our school grounds do so by parking nose into the kerb behind the hall or nose into the side of the hall to prevent any cars facing the walkways. I appre-ciate your co-operation in this area and know that we are all very passionate about the safety of our children at Buxton PS. Have a great fortnight, Alison Rourke

P&C What is an AGM? AGM stands for Annual General Meeting and ours is next week on Tuesday 13 March, 2018. This is the meeting where all positions are declared vacant. Why would you come along to the P&C’s AGM? Often people come to the AGM just so they can be kept up to date with a summary of the year or to see who runs the P&C and how they do it. You might be curious about how you can contribute to the school, via the P&C, so the AGM offers a great insight into the various roles. You can then choose whether you get involved or not and of course you also choose how little or how much time and energy you can commit. There are several formal positions offered at the AGM, like President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. Joining in with the P&C is a great way to meet new people, have a better understanding of how the school runs and do your bit to contribute to our school community. Brief role descriptions: President—Acts as spokesperson at events, chairs P&C meetings, makes sure everyone feels they can participate, signs cheques and lots of other bits as necessary! The President helps the P&C make decisions by considering the views of all the P&C members. Vice President- Works with the President to communicate with the school and represent members, chair meetings in the Present’s absence. Secretary—Takes meeting minutes, manages correspondence, maintains records for the P&C and prepares agenda.

Treasurer—Maintains financial records, makes pay-ments, issues receipts, prepares statements for each meeting, prepares risk assessments for events. Uniform Coordinator—Coordinates and monitors the efficient running of the P&C uniform shop, includ-ing arranging volunteers, stocktake and ordering. As we are a small P&C, all members have the oppor-tunity to contribute and work together to plan and coordinate fundraising activities and other duties are shared based on availability and preference (such as Facebook admin, writing for the newsletter, grant coordinator etc).
