From the Head Pro
Seems just like yesterday we started the month of February and now we
are onto the month of March. The grass has started to turn green,
flowers are blooming, and the pollen is falling. Golf season has started!
The beginning of golf season means new members and more play. With
more play, we need to make sure that everyone is making their tee times
so that we all can enjoy this great course. There are a couple of ways to
make a tee time. The first option would be to call the Pro Shop and
speak to us to book your time. Option 2 is to make your tee time online
through the Brickyard website.
By making tee times and sticking to them, we are better able to serve
you, the members, properly (having plenty of carts/range balls, etc).
We also have some DEMO Days set up for this spring. MIZUNO will be
here as a part of the Mercer Women’s Collegiate on Saturday, April 7th.
Taylor Made will be here Friday, May 4th, and Cleveland will be here on
Friday, June 1st. I am working on Titleist and Callaway DEMO days and
will update everyone when we set a date.
On a side note, Briane will be spraying some pre-emerge on the course
on March 14 so we will be Cart Path Only that day.

With the spring and summer months quickly approaching, we
need to remember that there are things that we can do to speed up
our pace of play. Ready golf is one of these things!
“Ready golf” is a commonly used term which indicates that players should play
when they are ready to do so, rather than adhering strictly to the “farthest from the
hole plays first” stipulation in the Rules of Golf.
Ready golf is not appropriate in match play due to the strategy involved between
opponents and the need to have a set method for determining which player
plays first. However, in stroke play formats, it is only the act of agreeing to play out
of turn to give one of the players an advantage that is prohibited. On this basis, it is
permissible for administrators to encourage ready golf in stroke play, and there is
strong evidence to suggest that it does improve the place of play.
There is no official definition of the term, but examples of ready golf in action are:
• Hitting a shot when safe to do so if a player farther away faces a challenging shot
and is taking time to assess their options
• Shorter hitters playing first from the tee or fairway if longer hitters have to wait
• Hitting a tee shot if the person with the honor is delayed in being ready to play
• Hitting a shot before helping someone to look for a lost ball
• Putting out even if it means standing close to some else’s line
• Hitting a shot if a person who has just played from a greenside bunker is still
farthest from the hole but is delayed due to raking the bunker
• When a player’s ball has gone over the back of the green, any player closer to
the hole but chipping from the front of the green should play while the other
player is having to walk to their ball and assess their shot
• Marking scores upon immediate arrival to the next tee, except that the first play-
er to tee off marks their card immediately after teeing off

Pino Lella wants nothing to do with the war or the Nazi’s. He’s a
normal Italian teenager—obsessed with music, food, and girls—but
his days of innocence are numbered. When his family home in
Milan is destroyed by Allied bombs, Pino joins the underground
railroad to help Jews escape over the Alps, and falls for Anna, a
beautiful widow six years older than him. In a move to protect him,
Pino’s parents force him to enlist as a German soldier. But after he
is injured, he is recruited at 18 to be a personal driver for
Adolf Hitler’s left hand man in Italy, General Hans Leyers, on of
the Third Reich’s most mysterious and powerful commanders. Now,
with the opportunity to spy for the Allies, Pino endures the horrors
of war and the Nazi occupation by fighting in secret, his courage
bolstered by his love for Anna and the life he dreams they will one
day have.
