WINTER UNIFORM
Term 2 sees our students in winter uniform.
The changes are minimal as the main part of the uniform is worn throughout the year.
Please note: Shoes are black, leather, school lace-up shoes. No velcro or straps. Shoes must be able to be polished.
Jerseys and polar fleeces are both part of the uniform and can be worn inside.
A scarf may be worn but it must be plain black or plain dark blue.Scarves are not to be worn in class.

Would You Like to Experience Another Culture - Learn to Speak French?
Classes will be held for the duration of the school terms at Tauranga Intermediate School, from 3.15 pm to 4.15 pm on Tuesday.
Parents would need to collect students after 4.15 pm. The programme involves games, songs and learning of simple words and phrases. The classes will be organised into small groups.

Nominations are invited for the election of SIX parent representatives to the Board of Trustees.
A nomination form and a notice calling for nominations will be posted to all eligible voters.
Additional nomination forms can be obtained from the school office.
Nominations close at noon on 16th May 2013 and may be accompanied by a signed candidate’s statement.
The voting roll is open for inspection at the school and can be viewed during normal school hours.
There will also be a list of candidates’ names, as they come to hand, for inspection at the school.

What made you choose teaching as a career?Where no day was ever the same. Got to make a difference in childrenʼs lives.
What interests do you have outside school?Gym, cake decorating, hiking/tramping, creative arts and dancing.
Have you represented in a sport ? Academically? I used to do ice figure skating, I was Sports Captain and Prefect at High School. Competitive dancer throughout adolescence.
What sports are you currently involved in?Coaching, Cheerleading, Hiphop and helping with Gymnastics. Am personally training to do a 10 km run and ride half of Lake Taupo race.
Who has inspired you as a leader?High School Principal - Phill Raffills - taught to give everything a go and overcoming failure is a big stepping stone in achieving success.

ACADEMIC REPORT
Dear Parent/Caregivers
Welcome back to Term 2. This week we have been speaking to all the students about the consequence of our attitudes. Our message is very simple. Every child who has a positive attitude towards learning will make improvements, and we are the owners of our attitude. This message continues with our ongoing philosophy of students taking greater ownership of their learning and seeing it as something they do. Your continued support with this message at home is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
At the end of last term the students completed their second IKAN assessment. This assessment measures the students knowledge within the Mathematics Strand of Number/Algebra. It is pleasing to see the progress already being made by our students. We have attached the analysis of this data for your viewing.
Furthermore, we have collated the data received from all the parents who took the time to fill out our online survey on our Student-Led Conferences. The feedback has been very affirming of the change, please take the time to view the findings. Thank you to all the parents who took the time to fill this in. In addition to this we also collected student voice. Student voice is an important element to our decision making. Included is a summary of their experience in the Student-Led Conferences.
Finally, we would like to remind you that our doors are always open to discuss any learning or pastoral concerns. Please feel free to make an appointment with your classroom teacher, syndicate leaders or ourselves if you need to.

LUNCHES...Many thanks to the parents and students who have been involved in donating a cut lunch for distribution at school. These have been appreciated by the students who have had occasion to access a lunch.

CHECKING OUT AND IN…..If a student has an appointment which requires them to leave school during school hours they must check out from the main office and present a note. They must be picked up from the main office not the gate. On return they check in again at the main office.
CELLPHONES.... Students are not allowed to have cell phones on the school site. This means, no cell phones, even if they are in the school bag and switched off. Teachers will not hold cell phones in safe keeping for students. Any student with a cell phone at school will automatically receive a school detention and the cell phone will be confiscated. Two phones are designated for students the first is in the Wellness Centre and the second is in the Student Office.

The Second Learning Conference will be held on Thursday 1 August 8.00 am - 8.00 pm
