Page 1: NEWSLETTER May(EN)

I volunteered to take on the newsletter this year

because it was something that was sorely missing

from the fabric of the club. I t's not just a newsletter

or a piece of paper, it's al l the things that draw us

together as employees and members of this club in

our shared experience. On that note I would l ike to

thank all that were involved for making this a great

experience and a proud achievement. Sharon

Donovan , for her final say. Carolyn Roper for her

sharp eye, Oriana Tevi for her translating, al l the

girls at the desk and everyone who contributed

along the way. And especial ly you who are reading

this right now - you made the whole thing

worthwhile. See you in September and have a

great summer!

With the numerous in-house league finals, the

Quebec Open and the Cancer Fundraiser, we

have just finished one of the busiest squash

months of the year.

A big congratulations goes out to al l the teams

and individuals for their exceptional play in al l of

these events. I t has been such a pleasure to see

the club so active and everyone participating and

competing to the best of their abil ity.

We are in the final stages of the Club

Championships so please make sure to play all of

your matches within the next few weeks. We are

planning on trying to play as many of the finals as

possible on May 1 9th before the start of the “End

of Season Bash”.

There is a poster and seating chart for the May

1 9th party by reception so please feel free to

book your table as soon as you can. I ’m really

looking forward to celebrating this great season

we have had with al l of you.

I would love to take this opportunity to thank you

for participating in our group classes, training in

our gym, and playing on our courts. Summer is

just around the corner and many of us wil l be

spending more time out in the sun and warmth.

Here are a few tips to stay healthy this summer!

1 ) Eat More Berries. Fruits today bear l ittle

resemblance to their wild ancestors, or even to

those of your great-grandparents. They’re bigger

and sweeter, and not necessari ly tastier. Berries

remain one of nature’s most potent antioxidant

powerhouses, which may help prevent damage to

tissues and reduce the risks of age-related

il lnesses. Enjoy a cup of strawberries,

raspberries, blackberries and blueberries every

day. 2) Exercise Outdoors. Research shows that

spending time outdoors elevates mood and

promotes feelings of positivity. I t’s time to blur the

l ines between play and exercise by enjoying such

activities as hiking, biking, swimming, rol ler

blading, and even playing tag with the kids. 3)

Get Dirty. Gardening has been shown to be an

effective stress rel iever, and some believe that

simply putting your hands in soil is “grounding”.

Plant a few flower pots or cultivate a small garden

and return your attention to the Earth and sun.

When life feels l ike you’re moving so fast you can

barely keep up, spending time in the ground wil l

help rel ieve physical and mental stress. 4) Sleep

Well . I t’s tempting to stay up later during long

summer days. Try to keep a good sleeping

schedule by going to bed at the same time every

night. Sticking to a sleep routine helps to increase

sleep quality and restfulness. Be careful not to

drink too much alcohol before going to bed. A

good rule of thumb is to stop drinking 2-3 hours

before bedtime. 5) Floss your Teeth . You know

you’ve been slacking.

Summer Holidays! What to Remember...Dr. Patrick Owen ([email protected])

Hard to believe that the end of the season is upon

us. The Badminton section had a very good

season with exceptional results in Provincial

tournaments, an increased participation in most

programs and a successful ly hosted Masters

tournament. Congratulations to al l !

The junior Provincials were held Apri l 1 5-1 7 in

Sherbrooke. Congratulations to the fol lowing

players with their impressive performances :
