Last Day of Term, Friday 22nd September

Early Finish at 2.30pm, No Canteen & No Fresh Fruit Friday

Principal’s Report End Of Term

After a busy and exciting term we are quickly approaching the two week term break. Please remember that school finishes at 2.30pm this Friday after a short assembly in the Gym, commencing at 2.15pm.

Footy Day

Included in the Newsletter this week are photos from last Friday’s Footy Colours day. The children were all very excited to support their team and had great fun singing the club songs. Thank you to Ms Nobbs for assisting Julieanne and Kaylynn with the organisation of the Footy Lunches, which the children quickly ate their way through.

A very big thank you to the parents on the BBQ who volunteered their time to cook the sausages and veggie burgers and help prepare the ‘orders’ for each class (Matthew Razmussen, Duncan Kern, Rachel Burgess, Cheryl, Mel Dmytrenko, Mel Fisher, Arlene Lawrence, Dawn Bridgman, Helen Gibbs, Tania Nastoski). A huge task that ran very smoothly.

I have my fingers crossed for Friday night football when the mighty Geelong play Adelaide. I will be dressed in blue and white cheering them on so that we can advance to the Grand Final. As long as they win it doesn’t matter by how much—Go the Mighty Cats!

SunSmart

The children have been reminded that they now need to be wearing their Sunsmart hat. Please ensure your child has their hat, this week if possible, but definitely for the start of

Term 4. Children without a SunSmart hat will be asked to go and stay in the covered area outside the Butterfly room. Being a SunSmart school, children are required to wear a hat anytime they are outside for sport, playing or while on an excursion etc. The SunSmart period each year is from 1st September to the 30th April the following year. These dates are determined by the Anti-Cancer Council.

Staffing

On Friday we will say thank you to Jaimi Frankling for the fabulous work she has undertaken at the school for Terms 2 & 3. Year 2S have been very fortunate to have had such a very caring and very capable teacher in the absence of Mr Schmidt. Mr Schmidt will return from leave and commence back with Year 2S at the start of Term 4, fortunately we won’t be saying ‘good-bye’ to Ms Frankling as she will be undertaking relief teaching at the school in Term 4.

Ms Hayes will be on a work placement for her studies with the ATI—Autism Teaching Institute and Ms Frankling will be teaching Year 1H, which we are delighted about.

Holiday Period

I know the staff are looking forward to the term break to have time with their families and friends, go on a holiday or just take it easy. They have worked very hard over the term to ensure your child/ren have had an engaging and positive time, both in the classroom and in the many other activities the children have been involved in.

I want to thank all staff for their on-going commitment to the children and the school.

Over the holidays OSHClub will have the holiday program operating from the Gym.

However, if you are around the school over the holidays, please keep an eye out for anyone who may not be respecting our grounds or facilities.

Have a safe and happy holiday where ever you are or what ever you are doing.

Remember school resumes on Monday 9th October.

Enjoy the holidays

FOOD BANK—Update

A message from the Director—It’s absolutely amazing how much has been collected!!! A whopping 780kg making it one of the biggest food drives we’ve had organised by a school! This weight is the equivalent of 1560 meals for people who are struggling to put food on their tables. You should be feeling very proud of this - the students, staff and parents at Williamstown North Primary School have made a big impact to the lives of many people across Victoria.

A huge thank you to everyone who contributed.

After School Care Dear Parents/Guardians,

Holiday Program is fast approaching, please book your child/ren in as soon as possible as places do fill quickly.

Bookings for Before and After Care are to be made online. We still have a number of children arriving at the program who have not been booked in, so please ensure you have made a booking as we cannot guarantee a place for your child as we must have the correct staffing ratio every day.

Vanessa is working at the program this week in place of Belinda.

Children at After Care are still collecting empty Ink Cartridges for Planet Ark. Please place any empty cartridges in the cartridge box.

There is quite a bit of lost property in the basket. When you collect your child/ren, please check the blue lost property box.

Thank you—OSHClub Staff

Fresh Fruit Friday (FFF) for 2017 This is a very social and

interactive group who

volunteer an hour of their

time each Friday morning.

Fresh Fruit Friday needs

parent volunteers. Please email Linda

Taylor directly, so she can add you to the

roster—[email protected].

Thank you to all the adult/parent helpers that

have assisted with Fresh Fruit Friday this

Term. There is no Fresh Fruit this Friday as it

is the last day of Term.

Canteen Julieanne Weir manages our Canteen and is always very appreciative of the time parents or family members can volunteer to help in the Canteen. Julieanne can be contacted via the General Office. New parents or family members are always needed and most welcome. So, if you can spare any of your valuable time, it would be greatly appreciated.

Student Safety

Please take the time to regularly remind your child/ren about safety, especially when going to and from school. Here are the important points to mention:

Do not to talk to strangers and never accept a ride from a stranger, or accept lollies or gifts from a stranger.

Immediately report any issue or problem you may have when going to or from school, to your mum and dad, or to your teacher, the Principal, Assistant Principal or office staff.

Always get permission from mum or dad before going to play with a friend after school and always let mum and dad know where you will be and what time you will be home.

We advise that, wherever possible, children should travel to or from school with an adult or with their friends, rather than travel alone.

Early Release

All children collected from school before 3.30pm must be signed out at the Office. Parents will be handed an ‘Early Release Pass’ to hand to the supervising teacher. If a child is signed out at Recess or Lunch time, the Office staff will call the child to the Office and then ensure the Early Release Pass is given to the supervising teacher.

Bikes & Scooters Many children ride bikes and scooters to school each day. All bikes and scooters must be locked up in either the Bike or Scooter Enclosure to prevent theft. Please ensure your child has a chain and a lock.

All children who ride a bike or scooter must wear a helmet which is a requirement by the Government. The school regularly reminds all children about wearing helmets for their safety.

All bikes, scooters, skateboards, ribstic and helmets must be labelled, with your child’s name and class. Children are reminded they must walk their bike, scooter, skateboard or ribstic to and from the school gates. No bikes are to be brought through the school buildings and we request, where possible, that scooters are also not walked through the building.

Working With Children Cards Cardholders who are required to renew their WWCC will no longer need to go to Australia Post to lodge a paper form and present their current card. Cardholders will go to the WWCC website to complete their renewal application online and, if applying for an Employee Check, pay the fee using a credit card when using the online renewal process, cardholders will be notified by SMS, letter or email 28 days before their WWCC is due to expire. It is important for cardholders to keep their contact details up to date so that they receive this important reminder.

After receiving a notification, individuals continuing to do child-related work should go to MyCheck on the WWCC website and apply to renew their check. Cardholders will be asked to register with MyCheck if they have not already done so. Once logged in to MyCheck, cardholders will be prompted to confirm or update their personal contact and work details, complete the online form and, if applying for an Employee Check, pay the non-refundable fee. More information: an FAQ guide to online renewals will be

available in 'Publications' under 'Resources' on the WWC website,

or contact the Customer Support Line on 1300 652 879 8.30am –

5.00pm weekdays except public holidays.

Influenza (flu) Influenza (flu) is a highly contagious viral infection that spreads easily from person to person through coughing, sneezing and close contact. Please keep your children home from school if they have flu-like symptoms. Influenza vaccination in children

Children can begin to be immunised against the flu from six months of age.

All vaccines currently available in Australia must pass stringent safety testing before being approved

for use by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA).

In 2017, four age-specific flu vaccines will be available under the National Immunisation Program.

The four vaccines are

FluQuadri Junior® (Sanofi Pasteur) for children from six months to under three years of age.

FluQuadri® (Sanofi Pasteur) for people aged 3 years and over.

Fluarix® Tetra (GSK) for people aged 3 years and older.

Afluria Quad® (Seqirus) for people aged 18 years and older.

Three things you might not know about the flu shot:

1. There is no live virus in the flu shot, so you cannot get the flu from the vaccine.

2. The composition of the vaccine changes every year.

3. The flu shot is safe for pregnant women at all stages of their pregnancy.
