Wollongong North Staff Impact Awards The recipient of our school’s award for this year’s

Wollongong North Saff Impact Awards is … Mrs Anderson!

A remarkable School Administrative Officer, Mrs Anderson goes beyond her role to develop relationships with those children who require that little bit of extra care. Ros lifts their spirits at the beginning of the school day.

Congratulations, Mrs Anderson!

Term 3 Week 9

What’s happening in … 5/6B?

5/6B and 1/2S have been busy on the film set of Bulli

Public School. The producers and actors from these

two talented classes are close to completing the

production of outstanding films to be entered in the

‘Film by the Coast' student festival. Through

collaborative and creative work the classes have

produced a mockumentry on the intensity of handball

in playgrounds around Australia and what kids can do

to save the world!

Film by the Coast Festival promotes visual literacy and

film making through the creation of high quality,

entertaining and informative short films. The focus of

the Festival is on student learning and engagement to

produce films that show technical knowledge and

understanding of visual literacy. 5/6B amd 1/2S have

certainly achieved this learning goal. We look forward

to seeing if their films make it to the big screen at

Anita's Theatre on 7th November!

Learning Conversations Tuesday 25 September

Parents are invited to come along on Tuesday 25 September at 3.15 – 4.30pm to have a conversation with their child about their learning. The focus of the afternoon is to learn about your child’s achievements and goals in literacy and numeracy and talk about how you can help them at home. You will also have the opportunity to view work samples in other areas. Siblings at Bulli PS are able to attend each others’ conversation. (No toddlers please.) Seventy-eight children had parents attend in Term 1 and ninety-six in Term 2; wouldn’t it be wonderful for your child if you attended?

The Tell Them From Me Parent Feedback Survey Once again, our school is participating in the Partners in Learning parent survey. The survey asks parents and carers questions about different factors that are known to impact on student wellbeing and engagement.

This survey will help our school understand parents’ and carers’ perspectives on their children’s experience at school. These include: communication between parents/carers and staff, activities and practices at home and parent/carer views on the school's support of learning and behaviour. The school has also added two questions regarding school satisfaction and what we do well. This valuable feedback will help our school make practical improvements.

The survey is conducted entirely online on smartphones, iPads, tablets, laptops or computers. The survey will typically take 15 minutes or less to complete and is completely confidential. The parent survey will be conducted between 5 September and 28 September 2018. Although participating in the survey is entirely voluntary, your responses are very much appreciated.

More information about the survey is available at: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au.

A Parent FAQ document is located at http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au/images/FAQs/TTFM_Student_Survey_FAQs_Parent_and_Carers_T12018.pdf

NAPLAN 2018 Students in Years 3 and 5 received their NAPLAN results today. Parents are encouraged to read the letter that accompanies the results. This letter explain how the results are to be interpreted as they are a snap shot in time.

Year 6 Fun Fair Week 10 - Friday 28

September

1.20pm to 2.40pm Stage 3 students have created Fun Day Activities involving mini stalls to be held on Friday 28 September. The money raised will fund the Year 6 farewell gift. Kinder to Year Six students will be able to participate in games and lucky dips and purchase snacks/drinks. They will enjoy activities at a cost of 50c to $1.50 per activity. Stage 3 look forward to running a fun filled afternoon, that will contribute to a wonderful cause for our school.

Bikes on school grounds after school Children and parents are reminded that children are not permitted to ride their bikes or scooters on school grounds before or after school. This is for safety reasons. Our school grounds are leased by Fun Club for after school care and our cleaner is on site.

In the Riding To School Agreement, both the parent and child have signed to say that bikes and scooters will be walked on school grounds. Please consider the safety and needs of others. It would be sad if we have to ban your child from riding to and from school.

Debating

Throughout Term 3, the Bulli Public School Debating team competed against other Seacliff Community schools. The team comprised Robert, Mathew, Travis, Otis, and Chela. Someof the topics were the use of social media, if hunting should be banned in Australia, and whether we should give more money to poorer countries.

After some close debates on the road at Thirroul and Austinmer, the team had their first win whilst hosting here at Bulli. I was particularly pleased with how the team continued to learn and improve their debating skills. Despite the early losse,s the positive attitude and hard work shone through during the later rounds. A fantastic effort from all involved. Well done team! Mr Gudze Debating Coordinator

Fruit and Veg’tember! Thank you to all students who participated so enthusiastically in our crunch and sip competition last week. Congratulations to 1/2S with the most fruit and vegetables consumed last week! They are the winners of a fruit and vegetable platter that they will have for recess on Wednesday in Week 10. Many thanks to Bulli Fruit and Deli for donating the fruit and vegetables for the platter. Enjoy, 1/2S! Natalie Patterson

Lost Property Lost property will be cleared at the end of the term with uniforms donated to the clothing pool. Suitable non-uniform items, drink bottles and lunch boxes will be donated to charity.

Stage 2 Excursion Term 4 In Term 4, Stage 2 students will be studying the science unit "Friend or Foe", exploring the special relationship between flowers and insects that ensures their survival. The excursion to the Botanic Garden will provide students with hands on investigations about the life cycle of flowering plants and bees and the importance of protecting our environment. A note will be sent home next term with payment information. Mrs Ellis Coordinator

Friendly Kids Friendly Classrooms The social skill for home discussion this fortnight is…

DEALING WITH FIGHTS AND ARGUMENTS Don’t let fights create enemies

Dos * Try to stay calm and talk through the problem using a respectful voice. * If you or the other person are getting angry or out of control, acknowledge it and walk away. * Make sure you talk about it later when you’ve calmed down, recognising that allowing bad feelings to continue is not a good thing. You are responsible for dealing with them. * When you feel calm, go and talk to the other person. * Put your point of view forward and talk about your feelings. * Let the other person put their point of view forward. Listen without interrupting until they’re finished. * Try to find a way to be friends again.

Don’ts * Don’t call the other person insulting names. * Don’t say blaming things. * Don’t try to shame the other person. * Don’t hit or kick or use any kind of violence. * Don’t be big-headed and assume that you are only one who is right.
