I hope you all had a relaxing holiday and were able to find some time to reflect during Anzac Day. Staff Changes This term we welcome Miss Tegan O’Brien who is relieving in the Library for Mrs O’Brien. Late last term we welcomed Miss Childs (1/2MD Mon, Wed-Fri) and Miss Zancolich (2/3M) to replace Mrs De Haas and Miss Marsden who are now both on maternity leave. Congratulations to Mrs and Mr De Haas on the birth of Elliot, a little brother for Oliver! Both Mrs De Haas and Elliot are doing well. 150 th Anniversary Update The 150 th Anniversary Committee is working tirelessly to prepare for our 150 th Anniversary celebrations on Saturday 27 July at 11am. The history book and cook book are well underway, guests invited, badges ordered, memorabilia collected and the commemorative garden planned – just to name a few. Perhaps most exciting at this stage of the preparations is our 150 th Anniversary Mural. Depicting the past, present and future of Bulli, the mural combines ideas from our community and was painted by local artist Jason Howe. The mural will be completed at the Anniversary Fete so our community can be directly involved. Thank you to everyone involved in bringing this significant project to fruition. End of Term 1 Events By all accounts Grandparents’ Day and our Hat Parade were highly successful. With nearly 400 guests, our children enjoyed showing off their hats and spending time with their special visitors. Our Learning Conversations were also well received. Now in its second year, this opportunity enables parents to share more directly in their child’s educational journey. Thank you to those parents who were able to attend. Enjoy your week! Principal’s message

Welcome back to Term 2! I hope you all had a relaxing holiday and were able to find some time to reflect during Anzac Day. It’s wonderful to be back at Bulli after my time at Windang and I sincerely thank Mrs Byrom and all the staff for their dedication to ensuring Bulli was off to a settled and flying start for 2019.

Staff Changes

This term we welcome Miss Tegan O’Brien who is relieving in the Library for Mrs O’Brien.

150th Anniversary Update

The 150th Anniversary Committee is working tirelessly to prepare for our 150th Anniversary celebrations on Saturday 27 July at 11am. The history book and cook book are well underway, guests invited, badges ordered, memorabilia collected and the commemorative garden planned – just to name a few.

Perhaps most exciting at this stage of the preparations is our 150th Anniversary Mural. Depicting the past, present and future of Bulli, the mural combines ideas from our community and was painted by local artist Jason Howe. The mural will be completed at the Anniversary Fete so our community can be directly involved. Thank you to everyone involved in bringing this significant project to fruition.

End of Term 1 Events

By all accounts Grandparents’ Day and our Hat Parade were highly successful.

What’s Happening in 3/4vK 3/4vK have completed a Visual Literacy unit on

‘Finding Nemo’. They enjoyed exploring the

underwater world of Nemo and his friends. As part of

this unit many students chose to help reduce the

amount of plastic that ends up in our oceans. For

every piece of plastic they picked up, they coloured in

a segment of a sea creature picture.

In science, 3/4vK also looked at day and night. They

learnt about the important role the sun plays in our

lives. Using thermometers to record termperatures

was a favourite activity as was measuring the length

of shadows at different times of the day.

In writing, 3/4vK have become persuasive writers

learning how to influence a reader. Currently, they are

writing narratives and learning to harness their

imaginations and entertain a reader.

A display of some of 3/4vk’s work is in the foyer.

3/4vK hopes you enjoy their efforts.

SAYING NO Cool people can say ‘no’ if they don’t want to do it

Dos * Look in their eyes. * Tell them you don’t want to do it. * Briefly say why (e.g. “No, I want to do something else after school”) or if it’s a mean thing, against the rules or dangerous, point out the consequences. * Keep your tone of voice and expression friendly and calm * Sometimes you may want to thank them for including you (e.g. “Thanks anyway”). * Continue to calmly say ‘no’ if they keep asking you. Try not to get angry. Perhaps you will need to walk away. Don’ts * Don’t look away or down at the ground. * Don’t say yes just so they’ll like you. * Don’t say yes because you’re scared that they’ll say bad things about you. * If what they asked you to do was mean, dangerous or against the rules, don’t give them a lecture about it. * Don’t get angry or upset.

It takes a strong person to say ‘no’. How strong are you?

Professional Learning / Contacting Teachers On Monday, Mrs Patterson presented the first module in our Assessment for Learning package to all teachers. This professional learning builds on the Dylan Wiliam conference attended by permanent teachers in 2018 and complements the same conference coming up this year. The package delves into several areas that support children’s learning, starting with learning intentions and success criteria. It complements the Learning Conversations and individual goal setting already embedded at the school.

Professional Learning occurs on Tuesday afternoon and commences at 3.10pm. It is vital that teachers are prompt to these sessions. We ask that our community be mindful of this commitment and not delay staff. (Meetings are also held each Monday afternoon at the same time for communication purposes.)

If you need to speak with a teacher after school on a Monday or Tuesday, please call into the office and a message will be given to the relevant person who will contact you. Please remember that your first port of call is your child’s teacher, followed by the relevant Assistant Principal.

Thank you to our community for supporting those people who teach your children.

Movie Day Noah Harb would love to say a big thank you to everyone at Bulli Public School for their support of his sleeping bag charity. The students ended last term with a fun movie in the hall and a gold coin or bag donation to Noah’s sleeping bag charity. Thanks to everyone’s generosity an incredible $481 and 5 bags were donated to the fundraiser. We will be ordering the bags this week and counting the bags we already have to work out our final tally. Thanks again to everybody for their support. Diana Harb

Mother’s Day Mothers are invited to join us on Friday 10 May. 12.15-12.45pm – K-6 events. You are welcome to stay for a picnic lunch 12.50-1.40pm. A cake stall and coffee

van will be available.
