With so much in the media about declining rates of both physical activity in children and parents playing with their children, our sporting event aimed to encourage both of these. It also helped meet the mandatory 150 minutes of physical exercise we have to organise each week. Year 6 also had a very successful fundraiser with their cake stall – thank you to all the parents who donated cakes. We hope all our mums had a lovely Mother’s Day and enjoyed their gift from the stall organised by the P&C – thank you. It’s a girl! Congratulations to the Green family (Miss Marsden) on the birth of Nevaeh Lee! Both Miss Marsden and Nevaeh are doing well. 150 th Anniversary Fete Update The 150 th anniversary volunteers are very pleased with the progress for our big day. The cookbook, ‘From the Coals’, is nearing completion with many people involved in the cooking, baking, photographing, researching, writing, editing and collation. The history book is also nearly finalised with contributions from across the community accompanying historical information and photographs amongst other items. The choir has been formed and is learning to sing our school song and the anthem in Dharawal for the official event. Our gardens are having a makeover courtesy of our volunteer, Mick who works in with our General Assistants. Items belonging to Mr Bayley have been collected from the museum ready to display in our hall along with artwork and artefacts on our soon-to-be carpeted noticeboards. The final organisation for the school fete is next on the agenda for the P&C. Hopefully you will be able to assist. We are very grateful to all those members of our community who are dedicating so much of their time to ensure our 150 th Anniversary and Fete are a huge success. Thank you! Enjoy your week! Term 2 Week 3

Kindergarten 2020

Information evening Monday 27 May 6.30pm in the Kinder rooms.

Enrolments are due Friday 5 July 2019 to ensure we are allocated the correct funding in 2020.

Sydney Writers’ Festival On Wednesday, 3 May, 20 students went on an excursion to the Sydney Writers’ Festival at Parramatta River Side Theatre. First we walked to the river, then we went into the theatre and bought books. We listened to four authors and they talked about how they became authors and how to become one. We listened to Oliver Phommavanh, Megan McDonald, RA Spratt and Katherine Rundell. We got to have our books signed by the authors, then it was back on the bus and back to school. We all enjoyed it. Isabella

Responsible Pet Ownership On Monday, K-2 students met Erin and her dog Jax to learn about safety around dogs as part of the Responsible Pet Ownership program. Students learnt about what to do if they come across an angry dog and how to approach a dog they would like to pat. Another part of being a responsible pet owner is to ensure dogs are only taken to areas where they are permitted - please note that dogs are not permitted on school grounds. Students took home information about being a responsible pet owner that you may like to talk about together with your child.

Natalie Patterson (Assistant Principal K-2)

K-2 Addresses and phone numbers As part of the safety content in Life Education, students in Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 classes are learning their addresses and phone numbers. While some students know this information, many do not. Could you please assist your children by teaching them their address and best contact phone number?

Thank you, Natalie Patterson (Assistant Principal K-2)

IGNORING SOMEONE WHO IS GIVING YOU A HARD TIME

Stay cool. Smart people know when to walk away. Dos * Stop looking at them. * Try to keep all the expression off your face. Look normal. * Turn your body away. * Do something else or talk to others near you. * If the other person keeps annoying you, STAY COOL AND WALK CALMLY AWAY. * If they follow you and keep giving you a hard time you may consider asking an adult for support.

Don’ts * Don’t look at them. * Don’t smile. * Don’t argue. * Don’t insult back. * Don’t get AGGRO. * Don’t try and get them into trouble.

Are you smart enough to know when to walk away?

District Cross Country Thursday’s District Cross Country was a fantastic day. It was a pleasure to take the team away. Mrs Wedeman and I were proud of both their running and their excellent behaviour, as was Mrs Byrom, who came down to support everyone. It was fantastic to see so many parents and relatives there supporting our runners. Thank you to Mr Pearson for transporting our shade shelter. This was greatly appreciated. Special congratulations to Tiana (7th), Betsy (8th), Preston (9th) and Indy (10th). Tiana and Betsy are reserves for the Regional team.

Bulli Burn – Sunday 26 May Already 38 students and parents have registered in the Bulli Public School team for the Bulli Burn – well done! You can still register at bulliburn.com.

In the past we have won the $500 for the school with the most entrants on three occasions. This year we are hoping to win again with the funds going towards the Year 5 Leadership Team’s project that will benefit all the children of the school (details are a secret). School athletics singlets will be given out towards the end of the week leading up to the event.
