SATA at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas, November 03 - 06, 2009

Meeting the Stars

The SEMA Show in Las Vegas is probably the most important trade show worldwide for car accessories and tuning parts. Apart from innovative products, also an extensive range of “hot rods” are on display at the large exhibition ground.

This year, more than 100,000 professionals from over 100 countries came to take a glimpse at latest product developments and to experience the almost boundless opportunities this industry has to offer.

Besides interesting products and the oppor-tunity to get comprehensively informed, many visitors were attracted to the SATA booth again by a varied entertainment program.

During the trade show, the popular artbrush artist Leah Gall, owner of Finishline De-sign, Inc., practically demonstrated the many different ways of creative Cus-tom Painting.

Leah Gall fully relies on SATA equipment. In her demonstra-tions, she showed what you

can do with airbrush guns of the SATA-graph series and the SATAjet 20 B if a real profes-sional uses them.

More artwork by Lea Gall can be found at www.finishlineinc.com.

Another eye catcher was the SATAjet Bike. This bike has been created by Kris Krome, a popular designer in the US Biker scene, and features some SATA “Original

Parts” such as SATAjet 3000 spray gun bodies turned into footrests and the housing lid of a SATA vario top spray.

Equally impressive were the valuable designer cars with their immense horse power under the hoods which could be admired on the SATA booth. These hot rods created by the Star of the US Custom Scene, Chip Foose, are fas-cinating the audience time and time again. To give these masterpieces their final touch and sheen, the master counts on top quality from Germany. He has demonstrat-ed his close relationship with SATA and his appreciation for SATA paint spray guns with an extended autograph

session on the SATA booth for many years now. Many fans waited for several hours to get one of his autographs. As always, a highlight of the show! For SATA, it is a confirmation of its product philosophy if celebrities from the Custom Scene like Chip Foose and Mitch Lanzini count on top-notch quality made in Korn-westheim, Germany.

Mitch Lanzini has become known to a broader public from his various appearanc-

es in the TV Show Overhaulin’. He has been enthusiastically using SATA spray equipment for many years. On the occasion of the Autorama Show in De-troit in early 2009, he received an award for his Hot Rod “Stella d’Oro – Golden Star”.

This masterpiece owes its breathtaking finish to a SATAjet 3000 B RP spray gun. Mitch Lanzini really appreciates how easily paint can be applied with this spray gun allowing him to create impressive effect finishes at world-class level.

However, on its way to the Autorama, the Coupé was slightly damaged - which is normally the end. But in the nick of time, Mitch was able to restore the original sheen with a SATAgraph spray gun which was provided to him at short notice.

“Without the fast assistance from SATA, we definite-ly would not have made it - SATA is the Number One.”

Now also available in the UK: SATA RPS 0.3 l cups

5 SATA UK-Newsletter 01/2010

• Very simple - only 3 components• No compromises - no adaptors required for SATAjet

and SATA minijet spray guns• Perfect - reliable gravity flow cup principle• Economical - saves time and cleaning solution• Sturdy - perfect for storing re-

maining paint material

In addition to the 0.6 l and 0.9 l SATA RPS (Rapid Preparation Sys-tem) already available in the UK, the innovative disposable cup system for mixing, painting, refilling and stor-ing of paint is now also available in the 0.3 l cup size. Many shops look-ing for perfect finishes and high profit-ability are already using the RPS cup system. From now on, the advantages of this cup system are also available for spot repair and blending.

The 0.3 l cups come with either one of two different cup lid options: Their cup connections attach directly either to

all modern SATAjet or SATAminijet spray guns (see be-low overview). Without the need for a cumbersome adapter, spray gun and RPS cups are the perfect match: the spray gun remains well-balanced. Since it is only the short material

passage which must be cleaned, cleaning the spray gun is quick and easy.

The proven gravity flow cup principle, thanks to the ventilation valve on the bottom of the cup, ensures continuous material flow to achieve perfect colour match and to avoid costly rework.

Eliminating the need for cup cleaning saves valuable labour time and cost for cleaning solution.

With only 3 parts (cup - lid - sieve), the 0.3 l RPS version is as easy to use as the proven 0.6 l and 0.9 l cups. SATA RPS 0.3 l is optionally available with 125 μm flat sieves and 200 μm plug-in sieves. To choose the correct sieve for your application, please refer to the rec-ommendations of the respective paint manufacturers.

6SATA UK-Newsletter 01/2010

Matt Stevens, the Managing Director of SATA UK Ltd. reporting:SATA UK Ltd teamed up again with Bee Bee Supplies Ltd of Halstead during November 2009 to conduct two one-day practical training courses for some of their customers. Bee Bee Supplies of Halstead, a founder member of the IRIS group, are rightly very proud of their state-of-art training centre commissioned in 2009. The training centre hosted twenty-five training events during 2009 and three of them were conducted by Russell Jacob of SATA UK Ltd.

The most recent events were attended by delegates from local body shops. The optimum number of delegates per course is six, but due to demand an extra place was added to each of the two days.

Whilst the main content of the courses on this occasion was the importance of using the right equipment for both high build and wet on wet primer application, the SATAjet 100 B F range, it did no stop just there. I personally arrived late in the afternoon on the sec-ond day and found the guys all using the SATAminijet 3000 B detail repair gun on a silver bonnet, perfecting the lay down of the base coat on a small repair. And along the way, as it often happens during such events, many other tit bits of information were also imparted to the knowledge hun-gry delegates who seemed to have a multitude of questions to be answered.

Upon ending the practical work, the day was reviewed and rounded up with a final question and answer session. One of the most valuable issues covered was the detailed expla-nation given as to what exactly HVLP and RP (compliant) technology was, where the differing technologies provided advantages and why they existed.

It became clear that, due to the pressure most painters are under in their daily work, they never get a chance to fully understand the whys and wherefores of all the innovations and changes occurring in the industry. Being away from their work place environment, the painters can focus more fully on the information presented allowing them to actually evaluate equipment in a more objective way. Some of the participants may have actually used SATA spray gun equipment for the first time, others may not have had an opportunity before

to see the benefits presented by the range of both air fed and charcoal car-tridge masks from SATA.

Another often misunderstood subject in the refinish industry is of course the very basis of being able to spray, the com-pressed air supply. Taking the delegates through a detailed explanation of air supply, special focus was placed on the importance of the use of a triple-stage filter like the SATA 284 filter regulator in the spray booth. Since oil vapours from the compressor do not dissolve in waterborne products, the benefit of upgrading a two-stage filter to a three-stage incor-porating an activated charcoal filter element is obvious: The oil-absorbing qualities of activated charcoal help prevent spoilt jobs. Again, the whole story needs to be explained to

allow people to make in-formed decisions.

Our thanks go to Bee Bee Supplies for making the training centre avail-able to us and, of course, successfully inviting so many people to attend. We have already planned fur-ther dates for 2010 and are currently working on add-ing more courses at other training facilities around the country.
