Welcome to 2020! Welcome back, everyone! We’re really looking forward to a wonderful 2020! This year we have 13 new Kindergarten students who started school yesterday. They are keen and ready to learn! These children have had their individual Best Start assessments and are already settling in well at school. We have 82 students altogether at our school which means we can group students according to their stage: Kindergarten: Ms Tanya Collins (4 days) and Mrs Kimberley Osborne (Thursdays) 1/2: Mr Gavin Henderson 3/4: Ms Kim Ward 5/6: Ms Terry Currie We really encourage everyone to get to know your class teacher. We are very approachable and willing to gain feedback from parents. Your class teacher is your first port of call for discus-sions about your child’s progress and wellbeing. Thank you
SCHOOL PHOTOS
School Photos- Individual photo envelopes were sent home yesterday.
Each child’s envelope needs to be returned, even if your payment is enclosed in a sibling’s envelope. Please keep all individual envelopes separate ie don’t place envelopes inside of other envelopes as they are not opened on the day. Please return envelope even if you’re not ordering.
If you would like a photo of siblings together, please come to the office to collect a ‘sibling envelope’.
Payment can be
by cash in the envelope (correct money only)
Or online by visiting the website:

Online payments for family photos cut off at 7am on the day of photography. After that only cash will be accepted.
Envelopes can be returned to the office before Photo day. This will make our photo morning operate more smoothly!

Thanks
School newsletter
Our school newsletter is usually paperless! This week’s copy is a whopper!
Newsletters are sent to each family via email every Tuesday. What better way is there than to have a beautiful colour edition pop up in your emails?! Newsletters are also uploaded onto the school website.
All Permission notes will be given out in hard copy.
*** Monday recess (11am) is the cut off for any Newsletter Submissions.
DUNOON SCHOOL
AWARD SYSTEM
Most Friday mornings, we gather as a school to
acknowledge the efforts of our children.
Three certificates are presented and a ‘Student
of the Week’ award.
Children who collect FIVE class awards,
including Merit Awards, Student of the Week
and other individual awards, are eligible to
receive a Gold Certificate.
THREE Gold Certificates are collected to
receive the Principal’s Banner.
Once your child has collected these awards,
they need to be handed in to the office by
Thursday.
Absences
All NSW public schools use a digital roll marking system. Rolls are marked before 9.30am each day.
If your child is absent from school, we require a written or verbal explanation for legal reasons.
We appreciate the support we receive from families who recognise the importance of consistent attendance at school. Not only is it beneficial for academic reasons, it also has a huge impact on social and personal wellbeing. Families are encouraged to travel during school holidays. If travel during school term is necessary, an Application for Extended Leave may need to be completed. This can be collected from the office. Thank you
P&C Uniforms School shirts ($25 ea.) and school bucket hats ($3.50 ea.) are for sale from the office. The new
hemp shirts arrived today!
There are second hand items also available in the clothing pool for a gold coin donation. P&C no
longer stocks trousers and jackets. These items can be purchased at Big W, Best & Less, etc.
Thank you
All uniform items to be paid for in cash as this money goes direct to P & C.
Correct monies appreciated.
Sun Protection
While we are all well aware of protecting ourselves from the sun with our school hats, we also have an optional extra item: Dunoon Public School sunglasses! The frames and lenses of the sunglasses fully comply with Aus-tralian standards. Each pair of sunglasses is customised with our school name. A matching case is also included. The cost is $15 and money can be paid at the office. There is a small supply of sam-ple glasses at the office.
Please note that the Dunoon sunglasses are optional.
District Swimming Carnival
The Dunoon PSSA District Swimming Carnival will be held on Friday 14th February at Alstonville
Swimming Pool. This carnival is for children from Year 2 to Year 6.
A permission note is attached.
Guidelines regarding the involvement of young children at school swimming carnivals require a high
ratio of adults to young children. The ratio of adults to young children for such events does not allow
us to take Kindergarten or Year One children.
This swimming carnival is both a PSSA competitive event as well as an opportunity for all Year 2-6 children to participate in swimming activities. Year 2 children who do not wish to participate may remain at school. We cannot offer this option of remaining at school to children in Year 3-6 due to staffing issues.
Ms Collins will be at school on this day with Kindergarten as usual. Mr Henderson will be at school with Year One and possibly some Year 2 children. Ms Currie and Ms Ward will attend the swimming carnival.
Year 2-6 children will be able to participate in 50 metre events (with points for participation going to
our school). There will also be 25m swimming events.
Travel will be by bus at a cost of $5 per child, and pool entry will be $5.00
Parents are welcome to attend and may take their children by private car if they wish.
Children need to be at the pool at 9.45 am as the carnival will begin at 10 am. The bus will be
departing at 9.10 am sharp. The carnival will finish at approximately 2 pm and the bus will be
returning to school by 3.10 pm.
Year 2-6 children: Please return note by this Friday 7th February, as we need
confirmation of numbers for the bus. Thank you!
SCHOOL FEES
OUR SCHOOL FEES ARE VERY REASONABLE! Text Workbook fees are $30 per child and this payment covers the cost for text workbooks
and photocopied material for students.
The Voluntary General Contribution is $30 for one child and for those families with two or
more children at school the fee is $50 per family.
These contributions really help our school to fund the cost of our excellent classroom resources.
We use this money to purchase stationery supplies, art/craft materials, sports equipment, class-
room readers, library books and technology resources, such as laptops and iPads.
We are very fortunate to have fantastic resources at our school and the money which we receive
through this contribution helps to maintain our resources at this high standard.
Payments can be made through the Parents Online Payment system (via the school website
‘Make a Payment’ tab), or with cash or cheque at the office at any time.
It would be really appreciated if fees could be paid by the end of February. Thank you very
much.
Please note that School Fees are paid to the school whereas the uniforms costs are
collected by the school and go straight to P & C.
Class groups for 2020
Kindergarten had an absolutely awesome first day! It was so lovely observing the
interaction of the students throughout the day. Thank you to all parents for your
gorgeous children.
We will be diving into our ‘Under The Sea’ study this term and have already start-
ed to create our own underwater wonder!
Digital Citizenship/Cyber Safety: Stage 3 On Friday 21st February, Struan Presgrave (Senior Constable and Youth Liaison Officer) is visiting our school for the day. We have invited Stage 3 students from our local small schools to also participate. The focus of the day will be to explore issues of digital citizenship, particularly with cyber safety. Struan is also organising another officer who will be doing some active work with the students as they explore boxing.
Congratulations to Dani! A big congratulations to Dani (who worked last year as our Student Learning Support Officer). Evie Angelina Smith was born on 28th January. Evie and her mum are both doing well!
Ms Tanya Collins with the great Kinder class!
Class groups for 2020
Mr Gavin Henderson with the awesome
Year 1/2 class
Year 1/2 students have had an excellent start to
our school year. This term we are studying oceans
and the importance of caring for our waterways. It
is also encouraging to see our students growing up
and maturing as they hit Stage 1. What a beautiful
bunch they are!
Mr Henderson
Mrs Kim Ward with the wonderful Year 3/4
Greetings from the fabulous 3/4 class! We are all
very excited to start another year at Dunoon
School. Our students are the BEST and we look for-
ward to sharing some fun and inspirational mo-
ments throughout the year. It is a wonderful
school with passionate and dedicated teachers
with a spirit of kindness and acceptance; and gen-
erous and committed parents. The students are
loving the revamped room and we warmly wel-
come our new classmates to the school. Our class
has settled in beautifully, showing mature atti-
tudes to work and a warm and caring friendship
with their peers. A little shout out….we love volun-
teers to help with reading groups, so if we have
anyone interested in donating an hour or so a
week it would be very appreciated.
Our project this term is a Technology challenge. Students have been asked to solve a local, national or international problem via the use of an app. They will code their app and then market and pitch their app to the judges (Ms Currie and Mrs Slocombe). We have begun looking at our writing
goals, learning how to argue persuasively
(sorry parents) and new ways of structur-
ing our maths lessons to ensure that we
practise applying our maths to real world
situations. What a great start!
Ms Terry Currie and the
sensational seniors (Year 5/6)
Our 5/6 class has begun their year thinking about the
things that are very important to them. Yr 6 has be-
gun designing their T-shirts, learning how to be awe-
some buddies and thinking about preparing for high
school. The whole class is working out how to incor-
porate a long camp into their year and the challenges
of making tough decisions in class council.

Cut Out & Keep HOW TO MAKE SCHOOL PAYMENTS ON-LINE
It is now possible to make online payments to the school for amounts owing for students via a
secure payment page hosted by Westpac. Payments can be made using either a Visa or Master-
Card credit or debit card. The payment page is accessed from the front page of the school’s web-
site by selecting $Make a payment.
There are no eftpos facilities at the school as we use this online payment system.
When you access the $ Make a payment you must enter:
the student’s name and their date of birth.
These details are entered each time you make a payment as student information is not held
within the payment system. No student’s details are given to Westpac and no credit/debit card
details are passed back to the school. As a consequence, payments for each child need to
be made separately. (There is also the option to enter the Student Registration Number and
Invoice number but these fields are not relevant to Dunoon Public School.)
You must also enter details about who is paying.
Under payment options, you enter the activity or item for which you are paying. Write a title in
the Payment Description that will enable the School Staff to match your payment with the
school activity or item. E.g. Swimming, 5/6 Camp etc.
When a parent is paying for multiple students the “Make Another Payment” option is selected
as the details on the first screen only relate to one student.
You have the ability to check and change any details of the payment before the payment is
processed. You can print your own receipts or have the receipt emailed to your email account.
This gives you immediate proof that you have paid for the item.
The next morning, details of the payments are passed to the school where they will be re-
ceipted against your child’s name and event. As a receipt has been issued from the payment
page, a further receipt will not be issued by the school.
To assist administration and help this new system work efficiently, there will be a
minimum amount of $10 to be paid on any one item.
Please assist the office by not adding together lesser amounts to make up the $10 minimum.
These smaller amounts can to be paid in the manner in which they are now. i.e. cash.
We are introducing this system to make it easier for parents to pay for items. We will still be
accepting cash and cheque as forms of payment.
Please note that uniform costs must be paid in cash as this money goes to P & C.
For any enquiries please ring the office. Thanks, Sandra
