As I mentioned in our newsletter 2 weeks ago, this year we are trialling a different format for reporting to parents Reporting this year will take the following format. For students in their first 3 years at school there will be no change to the existing reporting process. For students in Years 4-8 reporting will be as follows: Term 1 (Week 10) Initial interview and sharing/discussing learning goals. We are asking that the children attend the first part of these meetings when their goals are being discussed. Term 2 (Week 9) Action Plan Report and interview Term 4 (Week 8) End of Year Reports go home This change in reporting will align with reporting on student progress and achievement for the Board of Trustees. Lent Next week is Holy Week and a busy one to end the term. We have our annual Mission Fair on Wednesday 12 th April with the proceeds of this event going to Caritas for the good work they do in countries and communities overseas. Congratulations to the children who celebrated the Sacrament of Reconciliation at St Benedict’s Church last Wednesday. We ask that everyone keep them in their prayers as they continue with their faith journey. Our Year 6 students had a fantastic camp last week at Palm Grove and it was great to hear how they got involved in all of the activities that were on offer and how they didn’t let the weather deter them when it rained. Thanks to the work Mrs Taylor and Mrs Cameron put into this camp along with the support of the parents involved. This was again a successful and challenging experience for our students. This week our EPIC Award, “EPIC Eddie” went to Room 7. All the children in Room 7 are kind and considerate. They always include each other in work and play. They listen to each other’s ideas during group discussions. In the playground they are inclusive and look out for children who are alone. Most of the children in Room 7 have set a personal goal to be caring and kind. They try to solve our problems peacefully, an example of this is when playing cricket during morning tea and lunch was causing problems and disagreements, they wrote down a set of rules that included being fair and playing fairly. The children in Room 7 have wonderful manners and are a positive group of students who try their best in all their learning. Mrs Miranda says, "It is a real pleasure to come in each morning to teach such lovely, enthusiastic students."

During the first part of Term 1 the students in Years 3 – 8 have been sitting standardised tests that help provide their teachers with information to target learning to their needs and group students so they can make the most of their learning time in class. This information was shared with the Board of Trustees at the meeting last week and we are all delighted with the continuation of excellent levels of achievement for our students that has been evident for many years. In the table below is our overall percentage compared with the national norms. We are grateful for the skilled and dedicated teachers who have gone before us, and those we have at our school today, who work so hard for the students of St Benedict’s School.

The Children's Book Shop in Kilbirnie will be holding a book launch on Wednesday 12th April at 6pm for the story; 'Mrs. T and the Magic Pencil'. This story has been written about Wendy Treder by author Elizabeth Cummings while she was teaching at St Benedict’s School. There is an open invitation to anyone who would like to attend the book launch and help to celebrate this project. As well to show gratitude to Mrs Treder and the wonderful teachers like her who inspire their students and help them to grow. Elizabeth Cummings will be visiting our school on Thursday morning to talk with the students about the book and working as an author.

Last week (Monday-Sunday) our solar panels generated 54 kWh of solar energy. In March we generated 413kWh of solar energy. This was 10% of our total power consumption. Our school page can be viewed by clicking on the St Benedict’s School Schoolgen link: http://schoolgen.co.nz/schoolgen-schools/st-benedicts-school.
