    Dear Parents,

The production of the Little Mermaid which opened last night was a wonderful celebration and powerful showcasing of the outstanding musical and theatrical talent we have here at St Brigid’s. In the production, students of our College showed talent, persistence, camaraderie and genuine support for one another and I congratulate everyone who was involved in some way. Standing in the foyer at the conclusion of last night’s performance, I witnessed the immense joy from the audience exiting and I shared with pride to the students that the entertainment that they provided was greatly appreciated.

The undoubted stars of the show were the students. The energy that the performers exuded and the obvious delight that they gained from their participation was commented on by many who saw the show. There is a great feeling of pride associated with our Production.

Congratulations to the students involved and to the many staff and parents who supported this production. This work epitomised the importance of community that we uphold at our College.

    JAPANESE STUDENTS

Three weeks ago St Brigid’s welcomed 15 Japanese classmates and their teacher, Mr Hiro to Horsham, to their host families and to our College. Three weeks on and we now farewell our Japanese friends as they return home to Japan. At assembly yesterday our Japanese classmates told all gathered that their time here has been enjoyable and fulfilling, that new friendships have been made and hopefully some of these friends will meet again next year in Japan. The students were welcomed into a variety of classes and experiences and achieved a deeper understanding and appreciation of life in our College and in Horsham.

  • The many opportunities that they have enjoyed with our Australian culture, from animals, caves, camping, rock climbing, football, boomerangs through to sharing the joy of their own lives has been greatly appreciated by our students, staff and host families. We thank our Japanese classmates for the opportunities they have given to our students, to expand on their understanding of a different culture and language. We wish all our classmates and their teacher, Mr Hiro safe travel home, taking with them the many memories of our students, staff, school, host families and community, and we invite and look forward to our Sister school returning next year to our College.

THE ASSUMPTION Next Wednesday in the Church’s calendar we celebrate the Assumption of Mary into heaven. We celebrate the role that Mary played in nurturing and supporting her son and her influence in the lives of Christians throughout the ages. She is a great example to all of us of the importance of a hopeful expectation of the coming of the Kingdom of God, both in our lives here on earth as well as in heaven. We will join with students from Ss Michael and John’s celebrating Mass on Monday at 11.30am in the Parish church.

SUBJECT SELECTIONS We are now well into the initial planning phase for 2019. Parent Information nights have been completed, current Years 8-11 students have made next year’s subject selections and we are currently working through staffing levels. As mentioned previously, accurate student numbers are imperative in delivering our teaching programs next year. Should there be a change of personal circumstances in relation to your child attending next year, could you please advise the Front Office as soon as possible.

Yours in the community of St Brigid’s College

WHATS HAPPENING AT ST BRIGID’S !!!

  • Last Thursday the year 9 cohort were fortunate to participate in the Try a VET day to help them decide on future pathways. Students were skilled up on the expectations of completing Vocational Education and Training and the benefits to fast tracking an apprenticeship, traineeship or local qualifications that can lead to University Degrees. Students tried Health, Hospitality, Electrotechnology, Building & Construction, Hair & Beauty, Agriculture, Engineering and many more.

Young Vinnies Festival Last Friday 10 students headed down to Emmanuel College in Warrnambool for the Diocesan Young Vinnies Festival. We were accompanied by Mrs. van Dyk and Mr. Butler.

There were also students from St Pat's Ballarat and Trinity College, Colac. We participated in 5 activities and talked as a group about the founder of Vinnies and the purpose of WHY we do what we do. We were able to see the fantastic work that St Vinnies do in the community as well as get a few ideas about how we can fundraise in the future.

The weather was a little rainy but the beautiful facilities of Emmanuel College kept us in comfort.

The day was a great experience filled with worthy chat and great food.
