INCLEMENT WEATHER POLICY If the Jefferson City Public Schools are closed, morning classes at the YMCA will not meet and the nurseries will be closed at all three facilities. Due to the unpredictability of each weather situation, the YMCA reserves the right to alter this procedure on a case by case basis and decisions will be made by 6:30 a.m. Unless otherwise communicated, activities will commence at noon. Cancellation of afternoon programs will be made by 11 a.m. Cancellation of evening programs will be made by 3 p.m. or 60 minutes prior to the scheduled starting time of the program. If the Jefferson City Public Schools are cancelled, the Child Development Center and Knowles Indoor Pool will open at 8 a.m. and Y-Care is cancelled. Cancellations and closings will be announced at www.jcymca.org, on the YMCA’s Facebook and Twitter pages and on the YMCA information line at 681-9622.

FREE LAND GROUP EXERCISE CLASSESDon’t forget, as a Y-member all land group exercise classes are FREE! Check out some of the new additions to our schedule . . .

NEW IN JANUARYMid-Day Step at West: Draggin’ by lunch time especially on Fridays when you’re ready for the weekend to start? Put some “pep in your step” and get through the rest of your day by attending the Y’s lunchtime Friday Step class. Step aerobics are effective in burning calories as you use the large leg muscles as well as your core (abdominals) in controlling the movements you make on and off the step. You also canchoosethelevelofdifficultybythenumberofrisersyouselecttobuildtheheight of your step. ThisFridayclassisheldfrom12:05-12:50p.m.attheWestY.

Barre and More: A 45-minute class using the ballet barre for stretching and conditioning on Wednesdays and Fridays at 9 a.m. at West Y.

LiveSTRONG at the Y Exercise: This class is for cancer survivors on the waiting list and those who have graduation from the Y’s LiveSTRONG class.ItwillbeheldonTuesdaysandThursdaysfrom1:30-2:15theWestYintheGXR.

RETURNING IN JANUARYStep at Knowles: A class with simple step choreography and strength training. Focus on enhancing your cardio and muscular endurance. ThisclasswillbeheldonMondaysthroughThursdayfrom5:30-6:15p.m.

PARKING

A full parking lot means our YMCA is being utilized and that’s great news as we all strive to lead healthier lives. For the safety of our members, to limit the potential for acci-dents and to allow easy access for emergency vehicles, please park in designated areas only. The Firley Y at 525 Ellis Blvd. offers additional parking at the Community Christian Church lot west of the Y and the YMCA Child Development Center (after 6 p.m.) to the east.

PROGRAM SPOTLIGHTYOUTH SPORTS• Outdoor Spring Soccer Teams in this eight-week league will be school based. Schools without enough play-ers will be combined with other schools. Volunteer coaches are needed. Registration ends January 31. Registrations will only be accepted after January 31 if there are slots available on teams and a $10 late fee will be charged. • 3rd Grade Soccer Academy The Jefferson City Area Y and the United Capital City Soccer Club are providing a developmental soccer academy for boys and girls in third grade. The Academy will focus on improving the player’s technique, allowing them to get a feel for the game. It will also allow them to be more creative, take risks, become better with the ball and have fun. The cost is $100 and shirts will be provided. • YMCA Competitive Soccer League The Jefferson City Area Y is pleased to offer a new competitive soccer league for boys and girls teams. Games during this 8-week league will be played on Sunday af-ternoonsatthe63SportsComplexwithcertifiedrefereesofficiating.Teamdivisionsinclude: U10/6v6; U12/8v8; U14/11v11. ADULT SPORTS• Co-Ed Adult Volleyball Recreational,ModifiedandPowervolleyballleaguesareavailable.Teamswillplaysix per side and must have two females on the court at all times during this 10-week league. Visit www.jcymca.org for registration dates.

CHILDCARE• Holiday Care Take advantage of Holiday Care while school is on break! Children will enjoy safe, fun activities including crafts, games, sports and swimming at the YMCA. The hours are 6:45 a.m.-5:30 p.m. with lunch and an afternoon snack. The cost is $22/day for Y-members and $27/day for non-members. Registration and payment are required two business days before the date of service. Late registrations are not guar-anteed services and will be charged an additional $10. Upcoming Holiday Care dates include: February 12, 15, March 4, 24, 25, 28.

TENNIS• Tennis Lessons The YMCA offers a variety of tennis lessons for the beginner as well as the more advanced. Call 761-9012 for more information or visit www.jcymca.org.

HEALTH & FITNESS• Personal Training OurprofessionallycertifiedandexperiencedPersonalTrainerswillassistinachievinggoals for weight loss, muscular strength, cardio and muscular endurance, increased flexibilityorsportspecifictraining.Formoreinformationaboutpersonaltraining,visitwww.jcymca.org or call 761-3225.

AQUATICS• Swim Lessons The Y uses the National YMCA Swim Program which stresses safety and skill. At each level, participants are involved in activities related to personal safety, stroke development, water sports and games, rescue skills, personal growth andfitness.Classesmeetfor45min-utes. Aquatics staff reserves the right to make changes based on the child’s skills. Lessons are scheduled during the day on Monday/Wednesday, in the evening on Tuesday/Thursday and Saturday mornings. For a complete schedule, visit jcymca.org. The Y provides lessons for children as young as 6 months old to adults. Sessions consist of 8 classes that are each 45 minutes long.

MASTERS SWIM CLUB Masters Swimming is an adult, aquatics fitnessprogramforthepurposeoftraining,fitnessandenjoymentofswim-ming. Most workouts will be supervised by a coach. This program is for the competi-tive swimmer, tri-athletes and those swimmingforfunandfitnesswhoarebetween the ages of 18-100+.

delivered to the school in order to give all the students an opportunity for a successful school year.
