Members invited Chick-fil-A customers to take pictures with the Easter Bunny and provided coloring sheets and Easter eggs for children. JAV’s relationship with Chick-fil-A is one of several recently formed partnerships. And just like that… another successful JAV year is coming to an end! This year has been so exciting-watching the Junior Auxiliary of Vicksburg women work with such passion and dedication for the children and families of Warren County. We can truly say the spirit of volunteer is very much alive and well in JAV. The collaboration and passion of our members has made this an exceptional year. One of the highlights of this year for me is the partnerships that JAV has formed. Some of these partnerships will continue to provide sustaining financial benefits to JAV, which will ultimately allow us to provide for more children and families in the Vicksburg community. We also formed a partnership with the CAP Center which allows our members to go into the Vicksburg- Warren County School District and mentor children that need a solid role model and friend. Another highlight of this year was the 2012-2013 Provisional Class receiving the MAG Award for their provisional project, “Plant-a-Seed”. This was especially special to me as I was the Provisional Trainer for this exceptional group of ladies. What an achievement. Speaking of an exceptional group of ladies, the 2013-2014 Provisional Class created a new service project called TEACH, which will provide tutoring for children struggling to transition to the Common Core Curriculum. As a newly adopted 2014-2015 Chapter Service project, we will soon be seeing its impact. The most recent exceptional achievement is the success of the Bogie, Bogey, and Boogie for Kids Golf Tournament. The “Dream Team” took this fundraiser to the next level, making it the biggest and best year yet. It has been my honor and privilege to serve as President of the Junior Auxiliary of Vicksburg. It is a year I will always remember and cherish. I am proud of the accomplishments we made together and look forward to continuing to serve our community through Junior Auxiliary of Vicksburg. 2013-2014 JAV President Newsletter of the Junior Auxiliary of Vicksburg VICKSBURG of Junior Auxiliary The Junior Auxiliary of Vicksburg received the Efficiency Award, and the Louise Eskrigge Crump Award and Norma DeLong Education Award for CAP Center and LEAPS service projects during NAJA’s 73rd Annual Meeting Awards Banquet in May 2014 at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort in Florida.

TEACH

With the help of over 100 businesses within the Vicksburg community, the Junior Auxiliary of

Vicksburg raised over $25,000 to benefit JAV service projects. For more information about JAV

service projects, visit www.javicksburg.org.

Developed by the Provisional Class of 2013-

2014, TEACH (Teaching Educational

Activities Can Help) aims to help early

elementary students deemed “at risk of

failing” master the basic literacy skills needed

to adapt and thrive under the new Common

Core requirements. JAV voted to adopt

TEACH as a service project for 2014-2015.

The Junior Auxiliary of Vicksburg embraces the founding principles of the National Association of Junior Auxiliaries, “helping children and making a difference in their lives.”

The National Association of Junior Auxiliaries named April 6-12, 2014, as JA Week. JAV

Chapter Members kicked off JA Week with a Ladies’ Night Out at Martin’s at Midtown. On

Friday, April 4, 2014, City of Vicksburg Mayor George Flaggs, Jr. designated the week as Junior

Auxiliary Week. In his official proclamation, the Mayor urges “all citizens, civic and fraternal

groups, news media, and other community organizations to join in the salute to Junior Auxiliary

volunteers who have been an important presence in this community since 1936.” The Chapter

also presented Vintage Vicksburg and Ambrosia: A Deep South Mixture of Homes, Recipes &

History cookbooks to top sponsors of the Birdie, Bogey, & Boogie Golf Tournament for Kids.

City of Vicksburg Mayor George Flaggs, Jr. presents the official proclamation for JA Week to 2013-2014 Chapter President Alainna O’Bannon.

JAV Members help children at the Warren County Children’s Shelter with many

different projects. The shelter, an agency of the Mississippi Children’s Home

Services, was established in 1991.

JAV Members provided homemade desserts to event attendees. Proceeds from the sales of desserts, chili bowls,

drinks, and t-shirts were donated to the Warren County Children’s Shelter, a service project of the

Junior Auxiliary of Vicksburg.

For more information about the Warren County Children’s Shelter, visit the Mississippi Children’s Home

Services website at www.mchscares.org.

abused, neglected, and homeless children of Warren County and surrounding areas” (vicksburgdailynews.com). Chili judges

included Vicksburg residents Patrick House, winner of NBC’s “The Biggest Loser,” and Linda Fondren, CNN Top 10 Local
