The next meeting of the Pekin RC Club is
Saturday, February 18 at 6:30 PM in Morton
We will be meeting at the Otto Baum / CORE Construction Safety Building in
Morton, Illinois. The Safety Building is at 876 N Main St. in Morton - across
from the CAT Distribution Center rear parking lot. From the Pekin area the
best way is East on Route 98 into Morton, left at the third light onto Main at
the Family Video and straight thru town on Main St. The meeting place is
about a block before the Interstate 74 overpass. It’s on the right.
This Saturday is the meeting for the swap meet.
Hope to see you there.
Wayne is bringing BBQ and it’s pot luck for every-thing else. The door will be unlocked around 5:00 to give us plenty of time to set up, eat and shop
before the meeting at 6:30.

Hopefully it looks like we may have a mild winter and early spring.
I've just finished the kit JSM 80 that I got from Jay.
(Hope you're feeling better Jay)
This plane has 9 servo's and has a DLE 35RA.
This month we will have a swap meet and some tasty food. Help make it a success, bring a dish and some RC items. See you at the meeting.
Denny
The February meeting is the time to get rid of any of your RC model related items at the swap meet. We will have some food and the doors will open at 5pm.
Don't forget to get your dues paid up for 2017.
I hope to see more members at the meeting. The club is open to ideas on things the club should do or not do. If you the members have ideas on events or club functions you think would be fun bring them up at the meeting.

Trivia question to see if you were paying attention…..what model
of airplane is in the cover picture with the FOR SALE on its prop?

I believe it was the Fall of 2015 when I won the raf-fle for the Banchee electric ARF. It was one of three planes raffled off to offset the cost of the new club mower. Tim
Foster donated it for the cause. I spent the Winter of 2015/2016 researching the project on the internet. It was brand new in the box with a Cermark electric motor. The ARF and motor were made by the same company which was no longer in business.
There wasn’t a manual in the box or online. This was my first electric project so I took it to Precision Hobbies in Pekin and the owner Jim Byer used his expertise to guide me through the project. He had a smaller version the Banchee that he had built and flew. For his time and advice, I ordered everything for the plane through him except the motor mount. Everything went together quite well except it took a lot of time finding a suitable motor mount. I finally took a bite on a Great Planes electric motor mount offered at Tower Hobbies. With some modifications I was able to mount the motor inside the nose with an internal fire-wall. It may not be per-fect but then again nei-ther am I.
I had a lot fun problem solving this air-plane and that is my fa-vorite part of the hobby. She is ready to fly. You can note from the pics that there is a lot of con-trol surfaces. Jim said it would be a hand full.

The Wiley Post Flying Club
The Pekin RC Club is not
the first model airplane flying club
in Pekin. Back in 1938 it was free-
flight only, with control line just
developing. Thanks to Bill Brad-
burn for the old article.

Does anyone have a
Goldberg Jr. Falcon kit or plans?
I built one when I was in grade school

The Smith’s Airplane Factory
Last meeting we saw 1/2 of the wing.
Here’s the whole thing.
This is one awesome WW1 Morane.
History note:
Aéroplanes Morane
-Saulnier made the first
fighter aircraft that was
fitted with a machine gun
that fired thru the prop,
but without synchroniza-
tion. They installed steel
deflectors on the back of
the prop to deflect the
bullets.
Mr Saulnier patented the
first successful synchro-
nization gear that allowed
the machine gun to fire
between the blades. No
doubt because they were
probably replacing a lot
of props.
This same aircraft
company was taken over
by the Germans in the
WW2 occupation of
France. During that peri-
od they produced another
plane we are familiar
with...the Fieseler Storch.
