NE W SLETTER Instrumente Structurale 2007-2013 GUVERNUL ROMÂNIEI The CONNECT project developing between April 2015 and April 2016 is funded by Norway as part of the Norwegian Financial Mechanism 2009‐2014, the RO20 Programme “Domestic and Gender‐Based Violence”. Coordinator of this project is our University, through the Faculty of Sociology and Communication and its Research Unit Communication and Social Innovation. Together with our partners, the Faculty of Sociology and Social Work of Babeș‐Bolyai University, Cluj‐Napoca, the Centre for Family and Society Violence Prevention, Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu, the Centre for Psychological Research, the Women Against Violence Association – Artemis, and the Foundation TISIP, Norway, we aim to train specialists in preventing and combating domestic violence, by adopting a unitary vision based on partnership and network collaboration, in order to develop and consolidate the services granted to victims of domestic violence. The nine courses organized to date in the areas of Brașov, Cluj and Sibiu provided training to over 100 specialists (psychologists, social workers, doctors, legal counsellors, police officers, probation officers, etc.) out of the 250 included in the project's target group. Upon the completion of this project which consists of both training and supervision activities, an impact study will be performed. One of the biggest challenges of this project was publicizing it. This was performed both via conventional promotion materials (folders, leaflets) and through events like a launch seminar, the regional conference organized by our partner from Cluj, the participation in the ACUM 2015 Colloquium at Brașov, as well as a flash mob dance which took place in the Council Square of Brașov, with the help of students from the Social Work study programme. Electrical vehicles are becoming increasingly popular, which sparked the idea of converting a car with thermal engine into electrically propelled one. Funded by our University, the project was designed and implemented by a team of staff and students from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and its research unit High‐Teck Products for Automotives. Led by Dr Nicolae Ispas, the team included Dr Adrian Șoica, Dr Radu Țârulescu, Dr Bogdan Benea and Dr George Togănel who supervised the work of undergraduate students Andreas Vrajotis, Ioan Costache, Adelin Simtinică, Ciprian Busuioc, Florin‐Alexandru Apostu, Marius‐Augustin Ciorean, Ionel Burcă and of Alexandru Oancea, master's student.
Following a dynamic calculation, the internal combustion engine of a Smart ForTwo was replaced with an three‐phase asynchronous electrical motor with 22kW power output and 120 Nm maximum torque. A rechargeable pack of 32 Lithium/Iron/Phosphate batteries was used to actuate the electrical engine. Its full recharge costs no more than 3 lei. A pre‐programmed electronic unit actuated by a Curtis controller was used in order to ensure optimum operation.
A range of 50 km, a maximum speed of 80 km/h and 6 lei/100 km – these are the main specifications of the e‐car implemented at out University, which can already be seen cruising the streets of Brașov.

E‐SMART – THE ELECTRICALLY PROPELLED VEHICLE
Alexandru Mariș – a name associated nationally and internationally with the “2014 Dacia 1300 Concept” – is a graduate of the Industrial Design Programme of the Faculty of Product Design and Environment, currently a master student of the Faculty of Mechanics.
In 2009, Alexandru put forward the Dacia Logan Coupe concept. One year later, as undergraduate student, he joined the Design Department of the BlueStreamline Team of our University. The BS11, BS12 and BS13 monopost bodies are certainly proof of his hard work as a student.
As part of his BSc project, Alexandru developed a new design – Dacia 1100 Roadster. His work was initially acknowledged by the thousands of fans of a social network, where he first published his project. Subsequently, his success went viral in the field‐related media (TopGear, ProMotor, Autoevolution, 4Tunning, Autobook, TV.net, Antena 1, CityNews, Realitatea, and so on), which helped promote both Alexandru and our University.
A refined designer, Alexandru, working at the Univeristy's Research Institute, finalized the concept in 2016, managing to preserve the representative and spectacular body elements of the legendary 1100. The modern concept is aimed at consumers looking for a sporty approach. The aggressive outer body, displaying highly embossed body lines while still preserving the vintage atmosphere, as well as the cockpit with its finely updated original pattern, represent a success story already experimented by major automotive players.
Combining his impressive imagination and hard work with the capabilities of a dedicated software, Alexandru allows us a glimpse into the future of Dacia. First a scale model, then a 1:1 master model, this is truly a success story bound to have equally successful sequels as Alexandru will be pursuing his dream.

INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION FOR ALEXANDRU MARIȘ
In celebration of the University's Day this year, the Faculty of Wood Engineering and its research unit Furniture Eco-Design, Restoration and Certification in Wood Industry opened the restoration show Items from the Antique IL collection. The exhibition was organized by volunteer students, all members of the Antique IL Restoration Club.
Honouring our history, values and tradition, the exhibition opened on 1 March was a present we made to all our visitors: a collection of items associated with the old spinning and weaving tradition. The wood processing craft was illustrated by a vintage carpentry bench and an assortment of planers, with a few furniture items, frames and clock cases completing the atmosphere, evoking the enduring presence of wood in our lives.
Our exhibition is an open invitation to relive more peaceful times and to appreciate the beauty of old wooden objects and of the stories they have to tell. Posters for the action “Brasov, my city – acknowledge its heritage” were also displayed, making a statement for the preservation of local landmark buildings.

THE RESTORATION EXHIBITION AT THE FACULTY OF WOOD ENGINEERING
IN SEARCH FOR HISTORY, VALUE, AND TRADITION
Parents, parents to be and grandparents have lately been increasingly interested in parenting literature. We have never been short of books on how to raise our children, but over the last decades, parenting volumes written by psychologists have been increasingly in demand. This is due to the fact that recent findings in developmental psychology, cognitive psychology, and social psychology have led to the reframing of several aspects of family education.
Between 22 and 28 February, the Faculty of Psychology and Education Sciences, its research unit Positive Psychology and Education for a Sustainable Community within the University's Research and Development Institute organized, in partnership with TREI Publishing House and Cărturești Bookshop in Brașov, a series of public conferences on parenting topics covering a wide variety of subjects, from the impact of cartoons and fairy tales upon child development to the issue of parents' time management.

PSI WEEK FORPSYCHOLOGY AND PARENTS PARENTING
The University Day was celebrated at our faculty by introducing our work conducted at Research Units C05a and C05b within the R&D Institute of our university.
Dr Laurențiu Aurel Mihail introduced the metrology lab C05a equipped by Mitutoyo Romania to a group of students who had the opportunity to watch live demonstrations of the operation of the state‐of‐the‐art Quick Image optical measurement system, of small‐size gauging tools (vernier calipers, micrometres, dials), of the linear measurement column, the portable roughness testers, etc. The demonstrations were concluded by Dr Tudor Păunescu, supervisor of a B.Sc. project concerned with designing a graphical library for the modular devices for locating and fastening gauging parts onto coordinate measuring machines.
At Reaserch Unit C05b, Dr Sorin Barabaș presented the MAXIEM M1530 precision abrasive waterjet machining
equipment which can cut any type of material ‐ soft or hard, brittle or elastic – in depth (50‐60 mm steel). The hydro‐abrasive jet is formed as a result of water passing through a 0.003‐0.3 ruby nozzle at velocities between 500‐700 m/sec. Water pressure is controlled via a 20 HP Direct Drive pump and the cutter is monitored by means
of the Intelli‐Max software.
