Head Teacher’s Message
It gives me great pleasure
to welcome you to our Sep-
tember Newsletter. Our
new Assembly programme
has already highlighted
many social justice issues
and I am very proud of the
response made by our pu-
pils to the Syrian Appeal.
Our many School Improve-
ments are driving forward
with both the hockey coach-
ing and Italian Lessons in-
troduced. Our co-ed focus
group is also making excel-
lent progress in preparing
for boys next session. Our
open evening on 4th No-
vember is a great opportu-
nity for us to showcase our
school and we are looking
for the continued support of
our parents to spread the
word to friends and family.
Best wishes,
Dr Laura J Murphy,
Head Teacher

Nursery Trip to Tesco
As part of their topic on healthy eating our Nursery
children took a trip to Tesco on the school mini-bus. The
children got to see first-hand where their food comes
from and enjoyed wandering around the store looking
at a variety of foods to see if they were healthy or not.
Touched by recent events in Syria, Olivia McAdams (S6)
launched a moving appeal of gathering and donating
clothing for refugees. The response was overwhelming!
SCIAF sent a van to school which we filled to bursting
point with much needed clothes. All at Fernhill School
would like to thank-you for your tremendous and gener-
ous support for this very worthwhile initiative
Earlier in September S4 pupils participated in
The Innocents - Love Life Conference. This was a
emotionally powerful and very moving event. The
reaction was so positive among our pupils it has lead
to us having a Pro Life Cell within Fernhill School for
anyone who is interested in these issues.

are confident that they will prove to be

session.
Parlo Italiano Thanks to our exciting partnership with the Italian Consulate, our Pri-
mary pupils are now enjoying Italian lessons each week in addition to their French lessons. This groundbreaking
addition to our Modern language pro-gramme puts Fernhill School at the forefront of the new 2 plus 1 lan-
guage initiative launched recently by the Scottish Government.
Giulia DiGregorio (right) will be pro-viding the fantastic Italian Lessons!
Our Primary Junior Road Safety Officers attended a training morning at Chatel-herault Country Park this month. They had a great day and brought back lots of information to share with their primary friends. Well done to Fathima and Maddissonn, they were great ambassadors for our school.
Fernhill School once again
participated in the local
Scarecrow, festival in
Bothwell in support of
Yorkhill Hospital. Our
school bus photo booth,
complete with Fernhill pupil
scarecrows was a huge hit
at the festival and even
made an appearance on
national TV.
Fun at the Library!
Our Nursery children continue
to make good use of the school
bus with their latest trip to
Rutherglen Library where they
enjoyed a fantastic story telling
experience.

Sport Champions
Some of our pupils took part in an
Athletics competition hosted by Ron-
hill Cambuslang Harriers to promote
health and fitness amongst young
people. Fernhill had a clean sweep
with Holly McIndoe going for gold
and Siobhan McBride, Sophie Lowe
and Hannah McFadyen taking the top
three places. Well done girls!
Trips with Geography! Our S4 Geographers continued their
diet of contextual learning when they visited Whiteleee Wind Farm re-
cently to see first hand how turbines are constructed . Along with the
guided tour of the wind farm and other field-work activates, their trip dovetails perfectly with their forth-
coming National Assignment.
European Day of Languages was celebrated
with the P7’s organising a magnificent
spread of European cuisine and S1 enjoying
a Croissant Party. Celebrations continued
through Nursery and Primary with a colour-
ing competition of famous monuments in
Paris! Different Languages, cultures and tra-
ditions are very much alive and embraced at
Fernhill School! Vive l
