Term 1, Week 2
Friday 5th February 2021 Newsletter
From the Principal
Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome to Term 1, 2021. I would like to take this opportunity to welcome
students back to Peakhurst West Public School as well as send a warm welcome
to new students and families to our community.
It is great to be back at school and welcome all the students to their new classes.
It has been a very settled start to the year and we welcomed our new Kindergar-
ten students and their families on Thursday.
Penshurst Public School have moved to their beautiful new school which had the
official opening this week. Our school grounds are slowly being repatriated and
returned to us to use.
COVID Guidelines
We continue to have COVID restrictions in place with regard to having parents on site. Currently only parents or
carers of Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 families can enter the site to drop off and pick up their children. We ask
if you could keep your stay to a minimum to restrict the number of adults on site. Essential parent meetings can be
scheduled with staff by making an appointment through the office via telephone or email.
Please do not send your child to school if they are unwell and displaying even mild cold or flu-like symptoms.
For the latest and most up to date guidelines from the department of education about COVID-19 please have a
look at the following website, https://education.nsw.gov.au/covid-19
Sharing Food and Birthdays
As you are aware we have a number of students across the school with food intolerances and allergies. Some of
these allergies are life threatening and need to be managed carefully. In addition to this we are still following the
Department of Education COVID-19 guidelines to help us navigate the current pandemic and keep eveyone safe.
We are unable to distribute unwrapped or home made food to students at school as part of the COVID-19 guide-
lines and we have to consider our students with allergies and make sure that they are not at risk.
We do however want the children to have the opportunity to celebrate their special days with their friends.
If it is your child's birthday and you would like to send a treat for the friends in the class please only send in pre-
frozen Zoopa Doopers (we will put them in the freezer) or popcorn (preferably Kool Pak Popcorn). We will send
the items home at the end of the day as the students leave the school. This will allow parents to decide whether or
not the treat is appropriate for their child.
We can work together to help keep our students safe. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact
the school.

Swooping Birds
The nesting miner birds have been swooping staff, students and visitors from the Jacaranda tree on the Belmore
Road boundary. We have marked off an exclusion zone using witches hats and have asked people to avoid the
space around the tree. We will continue to monitor the situation and will consider further action if the problem
continues.
Swimming Carnival
The swimming carnival will be held next Tuesday 9th February for students in Years 3-6 as well as some older com-
petitive swimmers in Year 2. It is important that all permission notes are completed accurately and returned to
school in order for children to attend an participate. The health guidelines unfortunately mean that parents will
not be able to attend this year. Good luck to all of the students taking part!
Term Invoices
We are hoping to get our term invoices out to families by week 5 this term and in the first week of subsequent
terms. I would like all payments and permission notes to be attached to one termly invoice so families can make a
one off payment or instalments if needed and our fabulous office staff are not collecting payments all term. I
would really encourage families to make payments via the website using the pop payment system to avoid the
handling of cash for students, families and staff at school.
Parents and citizens association
Peakhurst West Public School has an active and enthusiastic Parents’ and Citizens’ Association (P&C). The P&C rep-
resents parents and carers of children at our school. The P&C successfully supports and enriches the quality educa-
tion of our students through a number of activities. These activities are possible with the continued support of par-
ents and community members.
The P&C executive provide facilities, services and support to the school and our children. Parents are encouraged
to attend P&C meetings and to support P&C functions and activities.
The P&C is committed to a free public education system which is inclusive of all, irrespective of culture, gender,
academic ability and socio-economic status. Parents as partners in the education process have a right and a re-
sponsibility to play an active role in the education of their children.
P&C meeting Monday 8th Feb
Dear Parents and carers,
Our first P&C meeting for 2021 will be held on Monday 8th Feb at 7pm.
You can now join via Zoom or in person at the school conference room. All parents and carers are welcome
to attend. If you would like to attend please email Kristina on [email protected].
We look forward to seeing you there!
The P&C usually on the first Monday of each month in the conference room at 7pm. The meeting will also be on
zoom for those who cannot attend the school. Meetings include receipt of correspondence, reports of various ac-
tivities, a personal report by the principal, updates on relevant educational issues, allocation of funds and general
business where matters of interest concerning the school and education are discussed. The P&C Annual General
Meeting is held at the first meeting of each year in February.
Among other things, the P&C raises money for the school through various fundraising activities, application for
grants and supporting school events. Last year the P&C were responsible for providing the shade over the fixed
equipment and this year we will be jointly funding the extension of the COLA.
Additionally it is a great opportunity to find out what is happening in your school, have your say in the decisions
and planning and provide insight and feedback into what you want from your school for your children.
Crossing Supervisor
I would like to formally introduce Michael, our new crossing supervisor. He is a
very welcome addition to our school community and he plays a very important
role in helping to keep our children safe. Please make sure you take the time to
say “Hello” and make him feel welcome.
I am genuinely excited about the start of my first year at Peakhurst West Public School, I feel that 2021 is going to
be a wonderful year for our whole community.

From the Easel
Students from 4/5K have been creating foil sculptures to depict people in various
positions. They watched a short video tutorial and then got to work, twisting and
shaping their foil.

From the Easel
Students often like to get creative at home. Alessandro has painted a canvas of a
quintessential summer sunrise. Ariel has sketched a baying wolf, while Laura
painted a magnificent full moon, echoing the colours and style of Vincent van Gogh.

SUMMER UNIFORM With school holidays approaching, it is a good opportunity to buy
any missing pieces of the summer uniform. Please ensure socks are
plain white and shoes are totally black (no dominant white
branding, for example). Keep wearing your uniform proudly in 2021!
