Focused Teaching Support rolled out this semester Staff at Kippa have already been working hard this week to review how we support student learning in class to ensure we are inclusive; that no student is ‘left behind’. As per our 2020 vision, we aim for 12 months growth in a year and will continue to support student learning around our English curriculum, ensuring as many as possible gain an A-C result. Obviously it is not possible for us to give every student one-on-one support so we must make the most of our resources by pooling them into one support bucket. During this semester, we are continuing to strengthen our PODs (groups of classes eg. 1/2’s & 2/3, 3/4's, 4/5 &5/6’s) by each of the Leadership Team going in to support a POD with their English unit of work. We are calling this process, Focused Teaching Support where the Leadership Team member will co-plan and co-teach with their identified class for a 2-3 lessons a week, to support students to pass their current English unit. This will look slightly different in each class, as we need to meet the needs of the students in each class. Therefore, if your child talks about Mr Lunnon being in their class teaching, this will be why. Mr Lunnon will support the three 3/4 classes, Mrs Drummond will support the three 5/6 classes, Mrs Shannon will work with the three 1/2 and 2/3 class, whilst Mrs Powell will support the 4/5 class, as well as continue to support students with a disability as per her role. I look forward to seeing how this strategy improves our students’ learning outcomes for the current English unit. With the team supporting classes much more, we are hoping student engagement will also improve. I will keep you posted. Term 3, Week 1

16 July, 2020

Dear Parents/Carers, Students and Members of the Kippa-Ring State School Community,

Welcome to Term 3 Week 1!

Focused Teaching Support rolled out this semester

Staff at Kippa have already been working hard this week to

review how we support student learning in class to ensure

we are inclusive; that no student is ‘left behind’.

As per our 2020 vision, we aim for 12 months growth in a

year and will continue to support student learning around

our English curriculum, ensuring as many as possible gain

an A-C result. Obviously it is not possible for us to give

every student one-on-one support so we must make the

most of our resources by pooling them into one support

bucket.

During this semester, we are continuing to strengthen our

PODs (groups of classes eg. 1/2’s & 2/3, 3/4's, 4/5 &5/6’s)

by each of the Leadership Team going in to support a POD

with their English unit of work. We are calling this process,

Focused Teaching Support where the Leadership Team

member will co-plan and co-teach with their identified

class for a 2-3 lessons a week, to support students to pass

their current English unit. This will look slightly different in

each class, as we need to meet the needs of the students in

each class. Therefore, if your child talks about Mr Lunnon

being in their class teaching, this will be why.

Mr Lunnon will support the three 3/4 classes, Mrs

Drummond will support the three 5/6 classes, Mrs

Shannon will work with the three 1/2 and 2/3 class, whilst

Mrs Powell will support the 4/5 class, as well as continue to

support students with a disability as per her role.

I look forward to seeing how this strategy improves our

students’ learning outcomes for the current English unit.

With the team supporting classes much more, we are

hoping student engagement will also improve. I will keep

you posted.

New P&C Executive Committee

I would like to congratulate our new P&C executive

committee for 2020:

President - Corey Lunnon

Vice President - Rachael Edgar

Secretary - Kristle Maund

Treasurer - Kirsty Wiemers

I look forward to working with the new fresh faces with lots

of exciting ideas about supporting the school with fund

raising.

A huge thank you to our outgoing executive who have

supported Kippa-Ring School for many years, even though

they no longer had children attending.

Wednesday 21 July at 5:30pm is our next meeting in the

hall. All are welcome to attend. We will be discussing

developing a working party for fundraising ideas to help

support the school with resources like more technology

devices, electronic sign for front of school, air conditioning

the hall. I look forward to seeing more parents next week.

School Opinion Survey for 2020- COVID style

Just a reminder to Parents and Caregivers that you still

have time to participate in this year’s School Opinion

Survey and have a say about schooling during the COVID-

19 lockdown. You are also given the opportunity to

provide feedback about our school more generally.

Participation in the survey is anonymous and you are

encouraged to take this opportunity to have your say. The

survey form has been designed so that it can easily be

completed on a computer or smartphone. The online

survey will be available until Friday, 17 July 2020, and

should take less than five minutes to complete.

To access the survey, please click on the link below or copy

and paste it into your web browser:

Parent survey –

Please contact the school if you have any questions about

the survey.

Until next time, keep safe.

Regards,

Lindy-lou Brown

LATE ARRIVALS

The School day starts at 8.50am each morning. Students must be at school by the 8.40am bell. This ensures an organised start to the day. Being on time is a positive habit for life.

Children arriving after this time are missing important schooling, and interrupting the learning of students who have arrived on time.

The ‘Stop, Drop and Go Zones,’ on Elizabeth Avenue and Korsch Street will continue for Term 3 and are manned by

staff between 8.15am and 8.40am.

For their safety and wellbeing, NO student should be on the school grounds before 8.15am, as there is NO supervision available before this time.

Students arriving after 8.15am will be directed to their supervised waiting areas.

By the 8.50am bell, students are expected to be ready for learning in their classrooms.

It is an important legal responsibility for parents to have

their children at school on time. On time arrivals, and

excellent attendance makes a

huge difference to student habits,

and learning outcomes.

All students arriving to school

after 8.50am must present at the

Office to collect a “late slip.”

OUTSIDE SCHOOL HOURS CARE Helping Hands Network has joined

the Kippa-Ring State School

community to deliver onsite Outside

School Hours Care – before school,

after school as well as during school

holiday periods and staff

development days.

It is a licencing requirement that any child using the

service must be enrolled. As there is no fee to enrol with

Helping Hands, it is recommended that all children are

enrolled so that the service is available for your family,

even if only on an emergency needs basis. You can enrol

online through the parent portal at:

www.helpinghandsnetwork.com.au

GET SET FOR PREP 2020 Prep is the first year of school and provides the foundation

for your child's education. It is compulsory for Queensland

children to undertake Prep prior to Year 1. Prep is a full-

time program in primary schools and

has a defined curriculum.

Children born between 1 July 2015

and 30 June 2016 are eligible to start

Prep in 2021.

School tours are available with the Principal or Deputy

Principal by appointment. Please contact the Office on

3897 5333 to start your child’s enrolment process.

UNWELL STUDENTS

During these continuing

unprecedented times, for safety

and wellbeing of our school

community, unwell children will

no longer be able to ‘rest’ in the

sick bay, as previously done.

If your child presents at the sick bay stating that they are

feeling unwell, parents/caregivers will be contacted and

asked to collect their child immediately. Please ensure

your contact details, and those of your child’s emergency

contacts, are up to date.

Directive from QLD Health – “If an educator or staff

member suspects a child in their care is unwell with a

contagious illness, they must notify the parent or guardian.

The parent or guardian must collect the child as soon as

possible, and the child must not return to the school or

early childhood service until they are well or enough time

has passed that they are not contagious.”

If your child is sick, we ask that you do not send them to

school, as you will most likely be called to collect them.

If your child is unwell and unable to attend school, please

notify the school via the following options:

Student Absence Line Telephone - 3987 5360

or send a text message to 0429 314 309.

Unexplained absences are recorded on your child’s report cards.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Updating Contact Details

Have you moved house recently? Have your contact details

or those of your Emergency contacts changed? If so, it is

important to update them with the school. Please advise

the Office by calling 3897 5333.

Birth Certificates

At your child’s enrolment interview, it was discussed that it

is a legal requirement that we sight your child’s Birth

Certificate to complete their enrolment. We currently have

43 students across all year levels that have not yet

produced their birth certificates.

Education (General Provisions) Regulation 2006 states that

proof of age and identity must be sighted before

enrolment into a child’s first year of school.

A Birth Certificate is the best legal evidence of a child’s age

and their relationship to the person wishing to enrol them.

The purpose of a birth certificate is not only to verify the

child’s details (ie age and

identity), but also to

establish that the person

applying for the enrolment is

the parent/carer of the child

and therefore eligible and

obliged to enrol them.

Letters were sent home to families before winter break,

asking them to provide a copy of their child’s birth

certificate, or a receipt from a Government office to prove

that it has been ordered. The school will still need to sight

a copy of the birth certificate once it arrives.

Early Collection & Messages to Students

Early Collection - If you are wanting to collect your child

from school early, we ask that you please call the Office

first, so that we can arrange to have your child waiting for

you.

Early collection during break time can be difficult, as

classrooms are locked, and class teachers are usually on

duty in another area.

If we are notified earlier that a

parent/caregiver or other

nominated person is collecting at a

specified time, we can ensure your

child has their belongings with

them and are ready to go.

Break times are as follows:

First Break - 10.50am to 11.45am

Second Break - 1.30pm to 2.10pm

Messages to Students – Whilst we are happy to pass

messages onto students during the day, we ask that these

messages be advised before 2.30pm. We cannot

guarantee that messages received after this time will reach

students before the end of the day.

We thank you for your cooperation in these matters.

AUSTRALIA’S BIGGEST CHILD SAFETY LESSON

Australia's Biggest Child Safety Lesson is an annual

initiative of the Daniel Morcombe Foundation. It is a 20

minute educational video which covers the important

personal safety topics. Students will learn about their right

to be safe and how to recognise, react and report unsafe

situations.

Kippa Kids will be watching “Australia’s Biggest Child Safety

Lesson” over the next few weeks.

Our Year 3-6 students live streamed the program into their

classrooms on Thursday 25 June. Our Preps – Year 2’s will

be doing their live streaming and viewing this term on

Thursday 10 September at 10am in their classrooms.

SCHOOL PHOTOS

School Photos have been rescheduled (again) for Term 3.

Advancedlife will be coming to the school on Tuesday 18

August to photograph our students.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions and health & safety

measures, students will be photographed individually for

their class photos, instead of the traditional whole group

photo.

Orders for packages and sibling photos can be placed

securely online at www.advancedlife.com.au using our

school’s unique 9 digit advanceordercode: N6N GNY 8HE

Photo envelopes that were sent home towards the start of

the year, can be used for cash payments. If using this

option, please note that the correct amount must be

enclosed in the envelope, as no change can be given, nor

are EFTPOS facilities available.

We will have a limited supply of envelopes available at the

Office, for those parents/caregivers wanting to pay by cash.

Portrait and group package orders will be accepted

up to and on the day of photography.

Sibling photographs must placed no later than the

day before photography day, and photos will only

be taken if an order has been received.

Should you have any queries concerning school

photographs or online ordering, please direct them via

email to: [email protected]

A letter with more detailed information will be attached

with this newsletter.

NAIDOC WEEK

NAIDOC stands for National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee. NAIDOC Week is always celebrated in July and is an opportunity for all Australians to come together to celebrate the rich history , diverse cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as the oldest continuing cultures on the planet. Always Was, Always Will Be is the theme for 2020.

This week, our Kippa kids have been celebrating NAIDOC by working with renowned Indigenous Artist, Arthur Conlon to complete our ‘gallery area’ outside the Hall. Photos of the beautiful artwork will be put up in next fortnight’s newsletter.

COMMUNITY NEWS

ROAD SAFETY REMINDERS

With everyone back to school and families returning to the

work place it’s a great time for a reminder on how to be

safe around the school crossings.

As we all know children can be unpredictable so extra care

must be taken when driving around schools and the

crossings. This ensures the safety of both the children and

our School Crossing Supervisors.

Here are some tips to make sure that we all remain safe:

Obey the STOP sign displayed by the school crossing

supervisor, do not drive through the crossing until

the pedestrians have cleared the crossing and the

supervisor has returned to the footpath.

Do NOT make a U-turn:

- across a single or double continuous centre line

- across a continuous line to the left of a broken

line

- over a painted island in the centre of the road.

Watch your speed – School Zones are in operation

from 7-9am and 2-4pm, some schools have all day

school zones. The speed limit for a school zone is

40km.

Everyone has after school activities, please don’t

speed through the crossing or try to cut ahead of

Page 6: Newsletter - kipparingss.eq.edu.au · Semester 1 Reports issued Week 3 We will be will be emailing Semester 1 reports home by the end of week 3, please ensure we have your current

other cars queued on the crossing. This puts many

lives at risk.

Do not park in a no standing zone or in the crossing

area, doing this impacts the visibility for the school

crossing supervisor and makes it difficult to see

what is ahead.
