It was pretty evident that this was one day that would remain in the memory of all the teachers forever as it was a very heartwarming experience for them to see their kids put up such a great show.

CIMUN 2016

One of the most awaited events of the year by the students of Cathedral Vidya School, Lonavala is CIMUN and this year, like always, lived up to its hype. It is a Model United Nations held in the campus of our school. It was held on the 9th of September and went up till the 11th of September.

This Year we had five committees:

UNODC (United Nations Office on Drugs & Crime): With Director Mugdha Nikam and Deputy Directors Dhruv Shah andTehseen Contractor, UNODC is filled with debates and discussions about drugs and their affect on the youth.

DISEC (Disarmament International Security Council):

With Director Aryan Gupta and Deputy Directors Vardhan Gupta

and Punya Sethi; this Committee

had a good blend of first time MUNers and experienced

MUNers. This Committee had caucuses upon caucuses about Drone regulation and Nuclear Weapon regulations.

IGF (Inter-Galactic Federation): With Director Suraj Harjani and Deputy Director Angad Yadav, IGF being one of the smallest committee with only 10 people was also given the label of “The

Most Successful Committee” in CIMUN 2016. The IGF is a Committee based in the future and is an exclusive Committee to the Cathedral Vidya School. The agendas for this Committee were combating the IGEA (Intergalactic Extremist Association) and the weaponry reform.

2

FIFA (Federation International de Football Association): With Director Abhinav Mitra and Deputy Directors Beomsik Park and Kashish Dewnani, FIFA was the Committee with the most number of Delegates. The Agenda for this Committee was money being invested in Football and Hooliganism.

International Press: With Directors Ishita Bhardwaj and Ojasvini Dahiya and Deputy Directors Chessica George and Kiara Lakdawala, the press was told to write, shoot or even draw cartoons about something they saw or thought was intriguing. Like every year it was a hard task for them to remove the press issues but in the end they were successful, just like every other year.

Everyone had a blast and had millions of memories to take along with them. We had two socials after the sessions were over, both with 2 different themes. The one held on the first night was “Bollywood Night”. Everyone came up to the floor and danced till their feet were hurting. Keeping the tradition of

the school, the second party was

“the Delegate Dance” where everybody came wearing formals and brought along with them a partner to enjoy the night.

Finally we had the closing ceremony, with the Chief Guest A.B Ravi, an Editor of CNBC TV 18, giving us an inspiring speech. This was followed by the most awaited moment of CIMUN- the Award Ceremony. Finally everybody left the hall and everything was back again to normal. Phew, what a long and tiring weekend!

Hindi Divas

Hindi Divas is celebrated every year on 14th of September throughout the country to pay tribute to the official language of India. Students of Grade 10th organized a special assembly under the guidance from one of our most experienced Senior Hindi faculty member. The assembly unfolded beginning with a prayer and explaining how important our National language is and why is it that it is now fading away.

NEWSLETTER JUN-AUG 2016 EDITION 5

Hindi is our National language and we should respect and give honor to it. Together with the economic prosperity and technological development in the country, the language is losing its importance day by day. Everyone wants to learn and speak English in order to get success in almost all the fields as there is demand for the same. Language and culture of any country plays an important role in creating intercultural relations between countries. It reveals the history of India from Ancient times and is the key for our identity in the future. It also plays a key role in uniting the diversity in India. We should be proud of our National language and never be reluctant while speaking it.

Students of Grade 10 put up a wonderful assembly, and were proud to celebrate the day committed to their National language. It was celebrated wholeheartedly by all the students.

Guest Lecture by Ashish Chawan

On Saturday, 24th of September, we had the wonderful opportunity of attending a Guest lecture by Criminal lawyer Ashish Chawan who came to our campus to talk about being a lawyer and careers related to law.

It started off with the High-School students gathering in the AV Room awaiting the guest lecturer eagerly.

After Mr Chawan arrived we were given a presentation about how to become a lawyer right from getting into law school, to the types of lawyers we can become after Graduating. There was also information about what subjects we should take in school that will help us. Good law schools, different types of lawyers and time it takes to graduate law school.

NEWSLETTER JUN-AUG 2016 EDITION 7

Finally we had a Question-Answer session which had many kinds of different and intriguing questions like “How does it feel like to interrogate criminals?” and “Minimum time it takes to become a lawyer?”

Following the Question-Answer

session, there was the morning tea

break and then the students were sent

off to their respective clubs. This

complete session was an eye opener

for many. A quote that comes to mind “The end of law is not to abolish or

restrain, but to preserve and enlarge

freedom. For in all the states of created beings capable of law, where

there is no law, there is no freedom.” –
