EDITOR’S NOTE: Welcome to the July edition of the newsletter. July brings more warmth and more outdoor activities to the women of the SWA. But even though there are get-a-ways and vacations, the women will be doing what they can to make the rummage sale a success. The rummage sale is upon us. This issue features the trailer at the Parish Center. The trailer was facilitated by Don Bergin and Leslie Patti and donated by Western Nevada Supply. This trailer was a Godsend because the SWA was getting numerous requests to take early donations with no spot to store them. Thank you to the ladies who stored the early donations until the trailer arrived. We’re always looking for material for the newsletter so don’t hesitate to contribute a story or pictures. Please feel free to share relevant news items with the other members via this newsletter. You can email your submissions to my address below.

The month of July is dedicated to The Precious Blood of Jesus. The entire month falls within the liturgical season of Ordinary Time, which is represented by the liturgical color green. This symbol of hope is the color of the sprouting seed and arouses in the faithful the hope of reaping the eternal harvest of heaven, especially the hope of a glorious resurrection. It is used in the offices and Masses of Ordinary Time. The last portion of the liturgical year represents the time of our pilgrimage to heaven during which we hope for reward. The Blood that coursed through the veins of Christ was a part of that Sacred Humanity made possible by the maternity of Mary, whose parents, St. Joachim and St. Anne are honored this month. (July 26). Our Lord's blood poured out on the Cross purchased our salvation, washed clean the robes of the martyrs, and gave birth to the Church as it flowed from his wounded side. The Precious Blood of Christ — now pulsing through his Mystical Body — continues its salvific work, preserving and purifying, repairing and providing nourishment for regeneration and renewal of its members.

July’s longer and warmer days also provide us with the opportunity for renewal, both interior and exterior. Schedules relax and pressures ease, inviting travel. But, whether we travel or not, like the missionary, Bl. Junipero Serra (July 1), we preach to others — by our conduct, our speech, even the clothes we wear. May we be modest in everything we do, imitating St. Maria Goretti, the young martyr for purity (July 6), and “preaching” Christ to everyone we meet. The summer Readings of Ordinary Time remind us that our earthly pilgrimage is also a journey, a great adventure towards union with Christ, the Beginning and the End of our journey. Each Sunday with its Easter renewal becomes a mile marker along the way, linking where we have been with where we are going. May the Precious Blood of Jesus sustain us as we journey to our true home, with Mary and the angels as our companions? Excerpt from CatholicCulture.Org

Prayer: Eternal Father, we offer you the Precious Blood of Jesus Christ, poured out on the cross and offered daily on the altar:

For the glory of your name, for the coming of your kingdom and for the salvation of all.

For the propagation of faith, for Pope Francis, for bishops, priests, and religious and for the sanctification of all the people of God.

For the conversion of sinners, for the loving acceptance of your Word, and for the union of all Christians.

For civil authorities, for the strengthening of public morals, and for peace and justice among all nations.

For the sanctification of our work and suffering, for the poor, sick and afflicted, and for all who rely on our prayers.

For our own spiritual and temporal needs, for those of our relatives, benefactors, and also for those of our enemies.

For those who are to die this day, for the souls in purgatory, and for our final union with Christ in Glory.

OPENING DAY:

Wednesday, June 18th was opening day for early donations for the SWA rummage sale. SWA

members and past Grand Knight Sal, were some of the people who came down to kick off the

collection of goods. If it wasn’t for the great idea of Don Bergin who tapped Western Nevada

Supply, the SWA might not have been able to get a hold of all these early donations. The trailer

was truly a blessing for the SWA. The SWA thanks all involved in getting this done.

The SWA is hoping to collect gently used furniture, clothing and other household goods for their

sale. The money made from the rummage sale helps fund the many worthy OLS ministries.

Did you know...

On July 4, 1776, the Second Continental

Congress unanimously adopted the

Declaration of Independence, announcing

the colonies' separation from Great Britain.

The Constitution provides the legal and

governmental framework for the United

States, however, the Declaration, with its

eloquent assertion 'all Men are created

equal,' is equally beloved by the American

people.

By the 1870s, the Fourth of July was the

most important secular holiday on the

calendar. Congress passed a law making

Independence Day a federal holiday on June

28, 1870. Even far-flung communities on the

western frontier managed to congregate on

Independence Day.

Did you also know …

Red, white and blue weren't always easily

available colors, and paper was a bit harder

to come by as all, so in our country's early

years, people used greenery as festive

decorations. It started with George

Washington and soldiers wore greenery in

their caps.
