    Leadership Enrichment Day

The pupils took the opportunity to work with pupils in other years, to develop their leadership skills. They threw themselves into all of the activities with real enthusiasm. They were shepherds at times, but also, sheep, guides, coaches, leaders, team players and listeners . NOVEMBER—MONTH OF

    THE HOLY SOULS

The account of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin

Mary in the Temple has been dated by historians prior to

the year 200 AD. The story relates that in thanksgiving

for the birth of their daughter, Mary, Joachim and Anne

(Mary’s parents) decide to consecrate her to God, and

bring her, at the age of three years, to the temple in

    Jerusalem.

We were told that Mary remained in the Temple until

her twelfth year, at which point she was assigned to

Joseph as guardian. While the story is a legend with no

foundation in history, the point is to show that even in

her childhood Mary was completely dedicated to God. It

    is from this account that

    arose the feast of Mary's

    Presentation

May we put our trust in the power of good to overcome evil and the power of love to overcome hatred. Kian Andrews for making a huge effort to get off report and getting good comments in lessons.

Emily Wong for being a numerical heroine and for working so hard on her times tables in Maths

Cole O`Reilly for making a wonderful start in 6LM and for his fantastic efforts and contributions in class.

Laiba Anis for being a very polite and hardworking pupil in all her lessons.

Pupils and staff at St Bede’s thoroughly enjoyed their Arts Enrichment Day on Wednesday 18 Novem-ber, which focused on developing Leadership qualities. Workshops involving chalk drawings around the school and freeze frames started the day, followed by Year 7 and 8 pupils leading Years 5 and 6 through Art, Music, Drama and PE activities. The older pupils were great mentors to the younger pupils - model-ling the skills of commitment, responsibility, passion, purpose, strategy and so much more. Years 5 and 6 rose to the challenge and took risks trying new things; becoming a pop band, putting on a show, creating Andy Warhol inspired art and playing a handball tournament. The media group created a very inspiring video to mark the occasion in the same day – fantastic. Very well done to all. (Mrs R Eastwood)

Kiera-Leigh Phillips for putting 100% effort into all of her les-sons.

Gergo Gombos for improving his contributions in English.

Calum Walsh for his fantastic preparations and contributions to 5KB’s class assembly.

Carmena Riley for her excellent commitment to the Music task on enrichment day.

  • Anti-Bullying Week

This week is national anti-bullying week and we have taken part across the school in a variety of activities.

Assemblies this week, planned and delivered by 5KB, have had an anti-bullying theme. Staff were asked to talk to students about a time they were bullied, or even if they bullied, and how it made them feel to highlight to students the consequences of bullying and to inform them that at some point it has touched the lives of everybody.

Cyberbullying has been covered in the Computing curriculum and Year 6 students have been working on their own anti-bullying raps.

You may have seen that we have been using our social media outlets this week (Facebook and Twitter) to promote anti-bullying messages and we have had a large anti-bullying presence on our website.

The Anti-Bullying Group (ABG) is in full flow and our Chairs and Secretary have been announced. Javeria Naeem and Leah Joy are joint Chair People, representing Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3 respectively and Gabriella Jung is the group’s secretary. The ABG group is there to give students another opportunity to raise any concerns but also to spread the anti-bullying message. We also have our school email address [email protected], where students can log any bullying concerns. (Luke Payton—Vice Principal)

    SAFESIDE—Year 5

This week, the first group of Year 5 students made their visit to Safeside at

    Eastside.

The experiential learning centre, operated by West Midlands Fire Service,

provides innovative, interactive and enjoyable learning environments which

inspire students to think and act safely.

The visit, which forms an important part of our Life Skills programme,

enabled our students to consider potential dangers in life-like scenarios which

included a road crossing, a bus, a train, a canal, a house, an alleyway, a

supermarket and an ATM. These experiences, enabled our students to

recognise key dangers and understand how to reduce potential risks to

    themselves and others.

The students involved found the day to be informative and fun and were able

to develop the skills that will be required as they move into their teenage years

    – ensuring they can be independent, confident and safe. (Mrs D Melsom)

A huge congratulations to the KS3 cross country team who all put in an outstanding effort at the new course at Abbey Stadium. A particular mention to Natalie Hatfield, Matthew Barrett, Regan Sailsbury, Ellie Pardy, Harrison Mayne and Sophie Pyatt-Pierce for qualifying for the next stage! Also George Skelton, Jake Staunton, Cian Amphlett and Katie Notley. Remember to keep checking our school website for clubs available. Rowing Club for all years will be starting next Friday lunch. KS2 will be first half and KS3 will be second half.

Hollie Fuszard in Year 5, having trained in the martial art of Tae Kwon-Do for 5½ yrs, recently at-

tended the Tae Kwon-Do Association of Great Britain (TAGB) Black Belt grading at Bristol Acade-

my and succeeded in passing her First Degree Black Belt Standard.

Hollie performed her Tae Kwon-Do patterns, translated English words and phrases into Korean and

sparred fearlessly, fighting against other opponents. Her hard work, and commitment over recent

months has seen her training up to six hours per week, even postponing her birthday celebrations to

    practice more!

    CONGRATULATIONS

CONFIRMATION: Preparation has already begun for the Year 8 Confirmation sacramental journey and we thought it would be helpful to have a special evening for you and your child to discuss what Confirmation is and what is involved in helping your child prepare for the Sacrament. It will be a very informal session from 6-7pm on Thursday 3 December at St Bede’s school. Fathers from both parishes and RE staff from St Bede’s will be available to answer any questions that you may have. Registration, timetable, dates and details of the commitment mass will be available on the evening for collection. Completed registrations for Confirma-tion should be returned to the school by Friday 18 December. If you have any questions in the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact the parishes or Mrs Dhanjal at school
