From the Principal

Touch DRAW for Monday 27th March:

DRAW: Duri Diamonds vs South Tamworth

Green, 4.30pm Field 1A.

Music

Mr Cole was sick last Thursday and will do a

catch-up lesson next Tuesday, as well as his usu-

al Thursday lessons. Don’t forget your music and

instruments.

Jennifer Johnston’s Position:

We have good news. Ms Johnston has signed

the resignation forms required and we can now

move ahead with the process of employing a

new teacher.

The Department requires us to go through a

particular process, involving a few options for

recruitment:

Step 1. Incentive—any teacher who has been

working in difficult schools in an isolated

location, has submitted a transfer for our area,

and meets the specific codes required.

Step 2. Aboriginal—an Aboriginal teacher who

has submitted a transfer for our area, and meets

the specific codes required.

Step 3. Merit Selection - The position is open for

application and interview.

We will know by the end of the week if the

position has been filled through either of the

first two options and a new teacher will begin

work at the school Day 1, Term 2. If it hasn’t, we

will begin the process of Merit Selection and aim

to have our new teacher at school by Week 5,

Term 2.

I thank you for your patience and support

throughout this process. Craig McDonald

SCHOOL NEWS

Term 2 - Staff Development

Day

The first day of Term 2, 24th April, is a Staff

Professional Development Day. Students do not

attend school this day. Staff will be working on

the following topics: School Excellence

Framework, Annual School Report, Information

Technology, Code of Conduct, Anaphylaxis Train-

ing.

ANZAC Day

The following Tuesday is ANZAC Day, 25th April.

Duri School will be attending the Duri Service

held at the Duri Recreational Grounds (near the

Tennis Courts), meeting at 7am for a 7.30am

start. The school captains, Isabell Kesby and

Blake Christie, will present a wreath and prayer.

All Duri students will perform “We Are

Australian”.

Following the Duri Dawn Service, students are

encouraged to meet at 9.45am in Bourke Street,

Tamworth for the Tamworth ANZAC March.

Students are to wear full WINTER school

uniform.

Gymnastics

Gymnastics will begin Week 3, Term 2 and

continue for five weeks. More information to

come.

Book Club

A reminder that book club orders are due this

Friday, 24th March.

Duri Public School Duri Public School

Harmony Day

Duri will be celebrating

Harmony Day tomorrow,

Thursday 23rd March. We

will begin at 12.30pm with

taster plates for seniors and then juniors. Due to

limited refrigeration and reheating facilities, if

possible, could you please drop the meals at

school between 12.15pm and 12.30pm.

Students are to wear school uniform and may add

a touch of orange (the colour for Harmony Day) if

they wish. It should be a great lunch.

Library

Mrs McDonald has been very busy in the

beginning stages of a library stocktake and has

culled some old books. The students had lots of

fun yesterday selecting books to take home. It

was like a kid in a candy store. These books are no

longer needed at the school. Enjoy.

Student Banking

Tuesday is our student banking day. This program

aims to teach students the value of saving and to

develop life-long money skills.

A number of our students have qualified for

prizes through their consistent school banking. It

is not the amount of money banked that these

students are being rewarded for, but the number

of deposits made (however big or small). The

prizes will soon be delivered to the school and

awarded to these students.

Please see enclosed information on Future Saver

Rewards.

If your child wishes to sign up to student banking,

simply visit your local Commonwealth Bank

branch or sign up online. Visit

commbank.com.au/schoolbanking

and Saturday 25th March. Duri School will have a

display featuring Syd the Spider and various

artworks completed by our students.

Swimming finished last Friday and will continue

again in Term 4. Thank you to parents for your
