Dear Families,
Literacy
Sarah and I have spent some of our holidays
completing a 5 day intensive course - Multisensory
Language Education (Australian Dyslexia Association)
in Wodonga. The course focused on linguistics and
how to teach more systematic and explicitly to all
learners. Research shows that all learners benefit
from a systematic, explicit and sequential teaching
approach when learning to read, write and spell.
Bike Shelter
Our bike shelter now has a roof thanks to George.
We will now be looking into ways to decorate it. We
are also looking at a new bike rack to accommodate
larger bikes (similar to the one near the bakery).
Sunsmart
Spring is here which means it is time to get your hats
out. Please start looking for them, ensure they are
named and bring them to school. Hats are available
from the office for $12. If students do not have a hat
we do not give out spare hats as this encourages the
spread of head lice and does not teach students to
be responsible for their own belongings. If students
do not have a hat then they will only be allowed to
play undercover.
Pupil Free Day
Next Monday is a Pupil Free Day. Staff will be at
school working on professional learning
activities in the teaching of reading, spelling
and writing. The new learning that Sarah and I
have received will be shared with other staff
and planning undertaking to review our
teaching practise and scope and sequence
documents.
Prep Transition
Our Term 4 Prep Transition program will be
running each fortnight on a Friday starting 19th
October 1.30 - 3.30pm. If you know of any new
families please encourage them to come along.
Crossing Supervisors
On Wednesday our crossing supervisors will
begin. This is very exciting and long awaited.
We welcome Leesa and Janet.

ASSEMBLY FRIDAY 2.10 pm
Early finish 2.30pn
where possible, please inform us in advance. If a child is absent and we have not been notified prior, when we do the morning roll at 9.05am a call will be made to parents to determine to reason for the absence. If there is no response then we will ring the next emergency contact number which has been provided.
During Term 4 we have 2 Pupil Free days.
Please mark these in your diary. OSHC can
be arranged by prior booking.

Emergency Evacuation Drill
In the coming weeks we will be having an emergency evacuation drill with the Kinder students. With summer fast approaching it is time for families to start thinking about what their family response will be in case of the need to evacuated. It is also a timely reminder to ensure that your contact details including emergency contacts are all up to date at the office. Please speak with Lisa to check.
Thanks to Bairnsdale Christian School who have
very generously donated the profits from their
recent Bookfair to our school. They were look-
ing for a small school to assist and the ladies in
the office at Scholastic mentioned our school.
We now have an extra $500 worth of books to
add to our library collection.
HELP NEEDED - Book Covering
If you have some time to cover some books at
home it would assist to get our new books into
the library quicker. Please see Kim or Lisa in the
office and we will get you what you need.
THANK YOU…..
A BIG thank you to the French family (Lilly and Zach) who
have very kindly donated the complete series of the 13
Story Tree House series to our school to say thank you for
the time they spent with us during Term 3. It is likely that
we will see them again in the future.

Ride the Mitta to Mt Beauty for as little as $5
This year Team Mount Beauty is encouraging locals to participate in the iconic Mitta to Mt Beauty mountain bike challenge by offering a big discount to all shire residents who have not entered in the last three years.
The event, sometimes known as the Pub to Pub starts at the Mitta pub at 10am on the last Sunday in October, and makes its way via minor roads, and gravel tracks to finish at the West Peak pub in Mt Beauty.
Entering for the event now will inspire you to get out on the bike and start putting in the k’s. Simply follow these steps:
STEP 1. Go to the MTBA website and sign up for an 8 week free trial membership and race licence – this will give you a race li-cence number and insurance for the event.
mtba .org.au/membership
STEP 2. Go to the Team Mount Beauty website…
tmb.org.au/events/mitta-to-mt-beauty
… read all about the event, and follow the links to enter via “EntryZone”. You will see the normal full prices displayed there, but will receive a $20 discount by applying the promo code “MM_Resident2018” just before paying by card.
This promo code and the free trial licence will reduce your entry cost from $93 to $40 for over 17s and from $45 to $5 for under 17s. If you wish to use the bus to get you over to Mitta on the morning of the event, instead of driving with friends and family, you will need to check and pay the $25 additional bus cost.
STEP 3. Get on your bike!
If you think you’re the type that can manage 50km on dirt, then be one of the 100 extra locals in this year’s event and respond to the “Mitta to Mt Beauty” Challenge” Questions may be asked of Team Mt Beauty members you may know, or ask Bob Flow-er (who is already signed up for the event!).
