Ag News
Shearing Day
In Week 4 JP Carey, Trev Stevens, Butchy Kumnick, Tony Jarvis, Andrew Bastian and Robin Pole helped out in the shed with the Ag students for this year to shear the wether lambs in readiness for the Adelaide Show. Tony Jarvis sold the wool in Jamestown, and had the mid-side samples, taken during shearing, tested by Cousins Merino Services. Paul Cousins has always been generous to the school in this area, thank you. Cousins Merino Services are at 6 Hill St, Burra. Paul’s contact is 0427 922 108 and Michelle’s is 0407 607 899.
A big thank you to all the volunteers who donated sheep, helped out in the
shed and shore the sheep.

Student enthusiasm for Sports Day
Kindy News
Last Thursday we did an experiment with some plasticine and a marble. We asked the children if the marble would sink or float. The children had different ideas and why they chose sinking or floating. We then challenged the children to think of a way to make them both float. As often happens they came up with ideas the educators hadn't thought of in the experiment context. Did we make them float? We began our Parent Chats on Monday. It was wonderful to share the children's learning with their parents and plan further individual learning goals. We look forward to meeting with all parents over the next few weeks. Tuesday we had Sports Day practise, evacuation practice and CYWHS visits. We had the trampoline out and we were impressed with the great patience the children showed while waiting for their turn. Thursday we are going on our nature play excursion to Melrose. Please remember to send you child's car seat or remind them to take them off the bus when they get off Thursday morning.

Primary News
Primary classes have recently been busy practising their events for the R-12 sports day which is fast approaching this Friday. R-5 students are encouraged to be at school at 8.30am Friday morning and need to meet their teacher in the gym to get their name tags before the official opening at 8.45am. This year the Primary shades will be located west of the gym. Children need a wide brimmed hat, sunscreen, water bottle, recess and lunch. A reminder that the SRC will be running a BBQ and canteen on the day from which students can purchase food and drink. At the completion of events there will be an assembly in the gym to conclude the day and announce the R-5 scores and all children are expected to attend this as an R-5 shield will be awarded. At the conclusion of the assembly at approximately 2.45pm students are able to leave with their parents and are required to hand their name tags back to class teachers while the remainder of students will return to classes. On Friday March 22th R-6 students will be travelling to Orroroo by bus for the performance ‘Circular Circus’. Invoices and consent forms have been sent home and need to be returned by Friday 15th March. Harmony Day is celebrated on the 21st March each year and is about bringing people together to celebrate Australia’s community harmony and cultural diversity. This year the R-6 classes will be celebrating Harmony Day on Thursday March 21st. All BCDS students are encouraged to wear orange on Thursday the 21st. All students at BCDS are invited to participate in the Premier’s Reading Challenge. Each R-6 student
participating in the challenge will have a student reading record which will be kept at school. Students are
challenged to read 12 books of which 8 need to be chosen from the Premier’s Reading Challenge booklist
at their appropriate year level. Students have until September 2019 to complete the challenge.
