From the School Leadership Team
It is hard to believe we are coming up to Week 7 of the term. Last Wednesday after school teachers were involved in an extended professional development meeting where we looked at the teaching and learning across the school for Physical Education, Health and Personal Development. It was a great afternoon where teachers shared information and activities that will directly benefit the children’s development. POKEMON The children are enjoying playing with their Pokemon cards and we would very much like to support their play, however, for us to be able to do this it is important that the children do not trade or sell their cards. We have had a number of little people bring money to school to pay peers for cards they wish to buy. The money is often $5.00 plus and parents and carers may or may not be aware their child has this amount of money. In order to circumvent any heart ache, it would be beneficial for the children if home and school could provide the same message i.e. no selling or buying of cards and no trading. Thank you for your support. CLASH We have a clash with the Stage 3 Bathurst excursion and the Sydney South West Cross Country trials on Wednesday 9th June. The school was offered two dates for the Stage 3 Bathurst excursion in 2020. The first date did not accommodate the teaching and learning arrangements for Stage 3 as it was too early this term. As a result, we booked for June. Schools tend to book Semester 1 excursions the year prior as vacancies fill quickly. Small schools are often able to make bookings the year required. Unfortunately, Dalmeny’s Stage 3 is larger than most schools and in order to ensure availability we need to book early. Once the dates were released for 2021 departmental sport we realized there was a clash. The school attempted to organise another date without success due to COVID – 19 restrictions on school numbers attending the Bathurst activities. A decision had to be made as to whether we cancel the excursion for 2021 which will impact on approximately 300 students or continue with the booking which may or may not impact on possibly six students ranging from 8 years to 13 years of age. It is difficult to gauge numbers, however, historically the school tends to see approximately 5 students go on to Regional Cross Country. We thank you for your understanding.
SCHOOL GROUNDS Upgrades of the school grounds continue. Currently we are working on the front of the school and already we are feeling a lift of spirit. Neuroscience has engaged in wide-ranging research into the effect our surroundings can have on our feelings and the decisions we make. It is very important to us that this school we love is welcoming and represents a culture of caring, cared about and cared for. We are excited to see the changes coming and hope you share in that excitement. The children certainly do as they comment happily and positively each time they see something new. That in itself makes the expenditure worthwhile.

We would like to introduce ourselves as the school captains. This year has already been so busy. We have had some new little faces join our journey towards great learning. The senior SRC have organised a Zooper Dooper fundraiser for every Friday. Stage 2 and 3 have been playing PSSA for the past week and are enjoying playing, especially since we didn’t have the chance to play last year because of COVID – 19. Classes have put in their votes for their SRC representatives. Following on from that there will be an induction assembly where the SRC will receive their badges so stay tuned……. We’ll update you all soon. We hope you are all enjoying the year and we are looking forward to a great year.
This idea will continue up along the front fence towards the Kiss and Drop Zone 😊😊

We would like to welcome to the Support Unit our new families and returning families. Lots of changes have occurred at the start of 2021 with 4 new teachers and 2 new classes. Our Support Unit now consists of 6 classes, with varying disabilities including students with Autism and/or an Intellectual disability. The 11 new Kindergarten students have settled in well and so have our new teachers Mrs Fatima Moutasallem, Miss David, Mrs Allison Lathouwers and Mrs Roshni Kumar. The playground has been extended to incorporate our 2 new classes with plenty of space for our students to play and enjoy. Since the start of the year all our students have been learning the structures and routines of their classrooms as well as how to be a good friend. This year we will be learning and using the Zones of Regulation. This is a curriculum comprised of lessons and activities used to help students understand their emotions and assist them to self-regulate. Looking forward to an enjoyable year.
Students read a story, ‘Brown Bear, Brown Bear’. In groups they were learning to ask and answer questions. They were very clever in turn taking and listening respectfully to each other.
5
Stage 1 has been looking at a variety of imaginative texts about the beach This week they have been reading Where The Forest Meets The Sea by Jeannie Baker
7
Stage 2 have been looking at what makes a quality classroom.
Students have worked with their teachers to come up with their own ideas of what makes a quality student, quality teacher, and quality learning environment. Scan the QR Code to listen to the story ‘Miss Nelson is Missing’ by Harry Allard to find out what makes a quality student and quality teacher
8
In Stage 3 we are focusing on textual concepts during our Literacy sessions. The past two weeks have focused on “Perspective and Point of view”. Students have learned that perspective is the lens through which the story is told and when we understand a character’s perspective we get to walk in that character’s shoes. Students have been viewing traditional and non- traditional tales from a variety of characters’ view-points. They are learning to identify texts that have been written in the first and third person by the use of personal pronouns. Here is a link to a short video to explain.https://education.nsw.gov.au/teaching-and-learning/curriculum/key-learning-areas/english/ES1S3/textual-concepts#/asset12
Congratulations to the students 8 years and above who qualified at the zone swimming to represent our area at Region. Students involved in the next round have been informed. The Regional Swimming Carnival will be held on Tuesday 9th March at the Campbelltown Swimming Centre, Gordon Fetterplace Aquatic Centre, The Parkway, Bradbury. Regional starts at 8.30am sharp. Have a great day, enjoy and good luck 😊😊

Swimming update On Thursday night schools received notice that spectators (parents / carers / families and friends) may attend the South Western Sydney Swimming Carnival at the Campbelltown Swimming Centre. Following is the transcript we received today at lunch time: As a result of the direction provided by the DoE last night in regards to parent/spectators attending school sporting events (see below) the following will apply to the SSWSSA Swimming Championships occurring this coming Monday 8 March (Secondary) and Tuesday 9 March (Primary) at the Gordon Fetterplace Aquatic Centre, Bradbury -:
1. Spectators will NOT be permitted into the area within the confines of the Olympic Pool – the competition area. This is for competitors, zone managers and event officials ONLY. Parents can pay to enter the Aquatic Centre with their children, dropping them off for their events and then picking them up at the conclusion of their events at the gate leading to the competition area. Parents must remain outside the competition area and maintain the Gordon Fetterplace Aquatic Centre’s Covid Protocols. They need to realise they are under the Centre’s jurisdiction and can be asked to leave if they fail to abide by the protocols. PARENTS ARE WELCOME INTO THE AQUATIC CENTRE BUT NOT INTO THE AREA INSIDE THE FENCELINE OF THE COMPETITION AREA.
2. Drop off and Pick up points are no longer part of the process of
student entry and exit to the championship. As already stated, parents can enter the Aquatic Centre with their children and can drop them off to and pick them up from the entry/exit to the competition area.
3. Once competitors have completed their events they should leave the competition
area if their parents are there to meet them at the entry gate. Estimated event times are part of this year’s program to give parents an idea of when to drop off and pick up their children. Students SHOULD NOT leave their zone area other than to swim or go to the bathroom. STUDENTS RISK MISSING EVENTS IF THEY ARE NOT WITH THEIR ZONE MANAGERS.
ALL OTHER COVID PROTOCOLS PREVIOUSLY ADVERTISED REGARDING THE SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIP WILL REMAIN IN PLACE. PLEASE ENSURE YOU ADVERTISE THIS TO ALL INVOLVED – ZONE SWIMMING MANAGERS, RELEVANT SCHOOL PERSONNEL AND PARENTS.

COVID 19 UPDATE FOR SCHOOLS FROM NSW DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION The COVID-19 pandemic continues to affect the way we operate our schools as well as across the wider community. We have now reached over 40 days without community transmission in NSW, and the rollout of the vaccination program is under way. The NSW Government has recently eased restrictions across the state on the advice of NSW Health. The department has also continued to work with NSW Health to revise the current advice to schools. NSW Health has agreed to the following activities resuming across all schools in NSW:
• Parents and carers are able to enter school grounds but should continue to follow COVID-safe practices, including social distancing between adults of 1.5 metres.
• Parents and carers can attend school sporting events. School sporting events should align with requirements for community sporting competitions and training activities in NSW.
• There are no recommended limits on singing groups in schools, including for in-class educational activities such as repetition, chanting, recitation, or singing activities. Five metres is recommended between a group of performing singers and other people, including the audience and conductor, where practicable.
• Dancing activities – including dance classes, formals and social events – can proceed, but organisers should comply with any venue restrictions.
• Boarding schools have had restrictions lifted on separating cohorts of students to assist in their rooming arrangements and general organisation.
Schools should continue to complete COVID-safe plans for school events where more than 50 adults are gathering. It is still important that we all remain vigilant in implementing COVID-safe practices in our schools and workplaces. Some level of restrictions and guidelines will remain in place for schools for some time. It is also important that schools continue to be prepared to move to learning from home at short notice, if required. Changes have been made to the guidelines published at education.nsw.gov.au/inside-the-department/covid-19 to reflect this updated advice for schools.

Students who applied for selective high school placement in Year 7 2022 last November will sit for their tests on Thursday 11th March. Parents have received information from the NSW Department of Education High Performance Unit explaining arrangements for testing. The tests implemented this year are a new style. The new tests have a greater emphasis on thinking skills, mathematical reasoning and problem solving. Further information and test samples can be access at: The test (nsw.gov.au)
Harmony week is the 15th March to 21st March and is an opportunity to celebrate Australia’s cultural diversity. Dalmeny Public School will engage with Harmony week activities on Tuesday 16th March where we will look at what inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging means to all of us irrespective of our cultural or linguistic background. During the day we will explore the set of core Australian values that unite us all.
The colour that traditionally represents Harmony week is orange. Orange signifies meaningful conversations and social communication.
The staff and children may choose to wear orange to school on Tuesday 16th March.
