PAGE OF 7 1 From the Principal Dear families, It was such a delight to welcome our Kinders back this week! We look forward to next Monday, when ALL students, from Kinder to Year Six resume their learning at school. Many thanks to every family for the wonderful job you did, supporting your children as they completed their learning at home. I know it was not always easy. But your support of at-home learning ensured the safety of your community and assisted your child/ren to continue their learning. Thank you also for your patience and support as we navigated this challenging transfer from at school learning to at-home learning. There are not enough superlatives to express my admiration for the unparalleled achievement of our staff. Within the space of just a few days last term, they spent countless hours, transferring every child’s learning tasks, from face to face to at-home, either digitally or through individual work packs. Now as we prepare to return to face to face teaching, they are ensuring that all is in readiness to recommence learning at school. At every step along the way, the wellbeing of each student in their class was at the forefront of their thinking. I could not be more proud. As we transition fully to ‘at school learning’ there are some key points that are important to remember. For now, the following practices are in place: No non-essential visitors on site Please do not send your child to school if they are unwell. Students displaying symptoms such as a cough, runny nose, sneezing or temperature will be sent home No school masses / liturgies From Monday, June 1 recommencement of regular external providers to support student learning This will include music tutors, allied health services therapy sessions etc. No excursions or incursions No assemblies No inter-school activities No onsite meetings (e.g P&F, School Council) Additional cleaning protocols to continue Kinder Enrolments Commence Today From today, May 22, we are accepting applications for enrolments for Kinder 2021. The application form can be accessed via the St Joseph’s website. Alternatively, if you telephone St Joseph’s office, an enrolment pack can be posted to you. Names are taken from today, for our 2021 Kinder transition program (Play to Learn). If you are interested in your child participating in this program, contact the office as soon as possible as places fill quickly. Many thanks to Kylie Maguire for creating the 2021 promotional material, including banners on our fence, posters for distribution around Leeton and the new cover for the enrolment packs. They look fantastic! Kylie, thank you for your creative flair and attention to detail. Welcome Mrs Cronk Next week we welcome Mrs Cheryl Cronk to our staff. Collection of Students Each Afternoon We have been advised to continue to facilitate social distancing for families at pick up time.

Next week students will leave the school the same way as this week:

• Bus • O’Mara (green house) and Dwyer (gold house) via Church Street drive through pick up • Tenison (blue house) and MacKillop (red house) via Coolibah Street drive through pick up • Bike/Scooter/Walk

Many thanks to families using the drive through pick up. Your use of your family name sign on your front passenger visor makes such a difference. It assists the traffic to flow smoothly, as it allows us to quickly get your child/ren to you.

At this point we have not initiated staggered pick up times. We will assess traffic flow next week when all students have returned to school. If there is congestion additional measures will commence.

Supporting Your Child’s Return to School from Home Learning

Hi All!

Just a little note for all the parents/carers/guardians of children transitioning back to school full time this coming week, many will be experiencing a range of emotions. It is important to listen to your child and acknowledge how they are feeling.

Children crave predictability, particularly in these uncertain times. By having effective communication with your school, you are well equipped to reassure your child regarding any changes in school routines or expectations. Highlight the things that have not changed, for example, teachers, classrooms and lunchtimes.

With the extensive media coverage around Covid -19, some children may have safety concerns around returning to school. Reassure your child that the number one job that teachers have is to keep children safe and that schools will have many things in place to help safeguard children’s health and wellbeing.

Encourage your child to have helpful, positive thoughts around returning to school. What are they looking forward to? What makes them smile at school? What are they proud of? What are they grateful for? How has your child overcome challenges in the past? What strengths do they draw upon?

Assist your child in identifying the helpers at their school. Who can they reach out to if they are feeling a little uneasy? Remind them that they can also be a helper by offering kindness to someone else who may be struggling.

Emphasise that your child’s school has been missing them and that the teachers are very much looking forward to their return.

Please speak to your child’s classroom teacher if you find your child is experiencing ongoing difficulties as they transition back to school.

Thanks,

Jacquie,

Your School Wellbeing Practitioner
