GRIP Leadership Day: This event is happening on Monday 18th May at Newcastle Panthers. Stage 3 students are being invited to participate in this excursion at a cost of $50 per student. This payment will secure a seat on the bus as well as entry fee. The school is subsidising some of the travel costs. The excursion has proven to be a valuable experience in the past and has unlocked new leadership skills for student leaders to implement into the school community and beyond. Permission notes will be handed out in Week 1 next term. Student Representative Council: We are proud of our SRC and the mature manner in which they, and our school leaders, are approaching their positions. They held a “Rainbow Day” last week and raised $365. They are planning to hold a few more fundraisers and fun days throughout the year. The SRC and classes are keen to hold a charity day of some kind to support Vanuatu after Cyclone Pam. As well, a strong theme from class suggestions at our SRC meeting this week was Binless Playground days or better ways to address our disposal of rubbish. This is being investigated further as it is a worthwhile initiative. Mathletics: Mathletics is available for use on your home computer, Ipad or tablet during the holidays. For students to access the tables, Live Mathletics and Rainforest Maths they need to complete all the tasks set for them by their teacher. Live Mathletics is particularly useful for consolidating quick recall of number facts. Certificates will be awarded after the holidays for any student reaching the bronze, silver or gold levels. If you have not yet paid for your subscription to Mathletics please do so at the office-$10 (extremely great value!). Year 6 T-shirts:

The order has been sent away for our T-shirts and we

are excitedly awaiting for them to be prepared and

posted to us. This should take around 4 to 6 weeks.

EASTER SCRIPTURE SERVICE

On Thursday at 9:30am, our annual Easter Scripture Service will be held. Students from Stage 2 will host the assembly with Father Chris and Mrs Mary Smith, all are

welcome to attend.

ANAPHYLAXIS At Branxton Public School we have 6 students that are anaphylactic. Anaphylaxis is a severe, rapidly progressive allergic reaction that can be LIFE THREATENING. This is why we ask you as parents to refrain from sending in nuts, nut products, raw or cooked egg to school. We also ask you not to bring animals into school as we have students that are anaphylactic to them too. Within minutes a child can go from normal to rapid swelling of the face, hives, welts , breathing difficulty to loss of consciousness and death. We at Branxton Public School want to provide a safe environment for everyone and need the community’s help and understanding to do this. PBL Over the term all students have participated in our PBL lessons that are designed for all settings. Everyone, all the time. At Branxton Public School we are RESPECTFUL—we listen, care and treat others kindly. We are RESPONSIBLE—we act safely, are in the right place at the right time and own our actions. We do our PERSONAL BEST. We are ready to learn, give our best effort always and show pride. Branxton Public School is looking for a PBL mascot. Students are being asked to design a mascot that reflects Branxton and shows respect, responsibility and personal best. The mascot will be used on signs around the school and on our newsletters.

Primary Sport for Term 2 Due to lack of demand, croquet will not run as a sport for next term. We do hope to have croquet at some stage in the future. The cost of paying sports will vary due to losing a week to the ANZAC Day service in Week 1. Sport will run from Week 2 to Week 8 as the Athletics Carnival is set down for Wednesday 17th June in Week 9. Soccer and Tennis will now cost $28 and Lawn Bowls will be $42. Payment is due by Friday 8th May. Mrs Mungoven ANZAC DAY Ceremony Our ANZAC Day ceremony will be held on Friday, 24th April from 11:30 in the COLA. As this year celebrates 100 years since the landing at Gallipoli, it should be a special occasion. Students from our school will have the opportunity to march on Saturday morning, leaving from the bottom of Elderslie Rd at 11:30. All students should be in their uniform for this occasion. A special flyer is attached to this newsletter.
